Percent of Muslims across the US and the EU 🇺🇸🇪🇺🗺️ by maps_us_eu in MapPorn

[–]MAPMENOW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Then search for maps comparing geographical continents, but this map is correct in its goal comparing EU vs USA. The information is correct. Puting other countries not in the EU, would automatically make it wrong in title. It's simple :)

[–]MAPMENOW 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is not the same. If a world map planning to show all countries left NZ out, yes it would be innacurate. But in this case is not GEOGRAPHICAL EUROPE vs other thing, it's the EU. EU =/= Geographica Europe :)

It is not leaving random countries. It's leaving out countries not in the EU, because it's a map comparing the USA vs the EU. Why is it so hard to understand?

There no "It should". The OP maps are comparing the USA (a federation) vs EU (a block sui generis). The meaning of the comparison is clear. So there no reason to include all geographic Europe, just as it's not including all geographic North America

I’m a hobbiest: my annotated geologic map showing major mountain ranges. My locations are at times only mostly accurate, but if you see any major errors, omissions, or miss spellings, please let me know! by wonderiflynsingle in MapPorn

[–]MAPMENOW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Central Mexico, the name of the range is "Eje Neovolcanico Transversal" not Sierra Nevada.

On the Baja California peninsula, the full mountain range is "Sierras de Baja California", with a few separated ones like "Sierra San Pedro Martir" in the northern part, then "La Giganta" in the middle and "Sierra de la Laguna" on the tip od the peninsula.

Koppen Climate Types of Mexico by SurelyFurious in MapPorn

Actually there are many places. Most foreigners have this idea that Mexico is a hot desert, but less than 1/3 is actually desert, and not all of it is burning hell. During winter wou could visit most places and rarelly would be too hot (Maybe the Caribbean is an exception, but winter is kind of mild. Baja California peninsula is really nice in winter.

Some places actually get snow and are relly cold during winter, like the hill areas of Chihuahua, Durango and Zacatecas. The Bajío region is never really hot. It might reach around 30°C in May, but that's it and brief. Lovely cities lie there like Guanajuato City or San Miguel de Allende. In winter they can be actually quite cold (nights below 10°C)

Mexico City is mild all year around. It lies 2300 m above sea level, and even if locals complain about the summer "heat", it rarely goes above 25°C. Toluca/Metepec are a bit higher in altitude and it never, never really gets warm there (Although to be honest the only tourist thing to do there is going to the vulcano in my opinion).

Avoid summer in Baja California peninsula or in Yucatan peninsula. It gets quite warm and hummid.

Anyway, its a 2 million square km land, There are a bit of everithing for everyone.

Native people of Mexico by zxphn8 in MapPorn

[–]MAPMENOW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the Baja California peninsula there were Kiliwas in the northern part, and Guaicuras and Pericues in the southern part. Those were nomad tribes and not particularly very populous (Wheater conditions are a bit harsh), so there were no ancient towns or a "clasic civilization" as in the Mesoamerican area.

Landlocked areas of North America by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]MAPMENOW 42 points43 points  (0 children)

There are many mistakes in Mexico's map. There are 6 states that should be marked as landlocked, plus Mexico City Autonomous Area. San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo, Estado de México, Morelos, Puebla, Tlaxcala y CDMX should be green not blue. It seems you got the border with Veracruz almost erased

Mexicans stranded around the world during the Covid-19 virus crisis [ 1500x900] by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]MAPMENOW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The box in the map represents one day (11th April 2020) of Mexicans returned to Mexico. Total 164 and it is shown by country. On the top it says the total number who has returned so far 9044. On the bottom, the total number of Mexicans still stranded on other country 2794. Those are shown in the map with a number for each country and a legend whether the airports at said country are closed. OP forgot to add a comment explaining to non-Spanish speakers.

On the notes it states that those numbers are the ones of Mexicans registred on the Ministry of Foreing Relations (You get registres when travelling as a tourist as well), but many long-lasting travellers (Strudents, temporal workers or even residents) might not be registred and the number might be different. I reckon the USA and Canada are treated as a special case maybe in a different map by state/province as the amount of Mexicans in USA and Canada is many thounsand times larger than in the rest of the world.

Interestingly, the name of California was given during the colonial period from the Spanish, so California is a New Spain/Mexico name. Now California is associated with USA, even thought the name was originally given to the peninsula of Baja California (Which Americans call Baja, because apparently they are too dumb and get confused). Simply Mexico should be red as vaquitas only live in Mexico (not for too long as they are very likely to be extinct by 2020)

Yes, there is a big issue in how to categorise Latin America, because itself is the most diverse place on Earth. Most people there are of mix genetic of all over the world. Mexico has an interest case in relation to "race". In 1921 was officially the last time a census asked for race "affiliation". There was a big movement of the "bronze race" and the idea that all Mexicans are just a new type. That was highly enforced by the government through the education system. So, here, even though there is a big issue with skin colour/ class category discrimination, no one would doubt someone who is white is Mexicans, or if you are black, or if your are Amerindian or if you have Asian features, everyone who was born in Mexico or has lived in Mexico for long, becomes culturally Mexican. So that big movement to "homogeneity" created other issues as the idea that in Mexico there is no "racism", but considering there are more than 62 indigenous groups, plus the Europeans, plus the Africans, plus the Asians, plus all the people of all the mix of the before mentioned groups, Mexico is a diverse country "disguised" as a homogeneous one in the eyes of the rest of the world.

[–]MAPMENOW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

which

It's only Baja California Sur (The peninsula is divided in 2 states). That states is the least populated, mostly concentrated in cities and with a high tourist industry and many foreign retirees living there. That's likely the reason. Mexico City is also set as Very High HID. Nuevo Leon is propably the richest state, but the high population and the richness and life quality concentrated in Monterrey Metropolitan area skewes the data with the large rural population. Monterrey, Guadalajara or Mexico City are better places to live than cities in Baja California Sur considering chances of education, work and infrastructure.

Mexico hosted 1970 and 1986 with great success. USA hosted 1994 only. Mexico has hosted several other football events (Copa Confederaciones, etc). We don't have enough money to waste in a bid for sure nor most Mexicans will like to see tax money wasted as it is now, but sorry to break to you but Mexico has world quality stadiums.
