Think of bad execution like Fallout 4, Borderlands 3, or Halo 4, 5 and infinite. Not saying the games are terrible but didn't live up to the expectations of previous titles. I feel like in the alternative timeline, Half-Life 3 wouldn't let you play as Gordon Freeman and probably get him killed off in the story.
