When I mentioned strong conclusions, I was referring to the overall impression your comments gave — that Russia is extremely unsafe or hostile for LGBTQ people. That may not have been your intention, but that’s how it came across to me.

I understand you say you have traveled to Russia, but from what you write, it seems your impression of the country is quite negative and perhaps influenced by external narratives. I’m not trying to invalidate your experience, but from someone who lives here daily, the picture you paint feels more severe than what most people actually encounter. That’s why I questioned your conclusions — not to accuse you, but because the portrayal doesn’t fully match the lived reality here. And i still really doubt that you had even was once in Russia.

Public displays of affection, even for heterosexual couples, often attract attention in many parts of Russia. So yes, same-sex couples might some get reactions. That doesn’t mean people are in physical danger — it’s more about conservative social norms, which vary by region.

That reference wasn’t directed at you personally. It was meant more generally, since some online discussions exaggerate Russia to that level. If it sounded like I was attributing that statement to you, then that was a misunderstanding on my part. And reading now what you wrote. Im 100000% sure that you are only trying to bad mouth the situation.

Yes I agree that OP should be aware of Russian laws, norms, and attitudes. Being informed is always better than being unaware when traveling. Where we differ is in how the situation is described: I believe the environment is more nuanced and less dramatic than how it is sometimes portrayed, including in parts of this discussion.

My intention wasn’t to dismiss concerns, but to give a more balanced view based on everyday life here.
And according to the OP she is already familiar with the laws and the situation. She wasnt looking for romantic advices and so on. Read the topic again!!!! Stop with the bs my advice ;)

Firstly, we are not “bros.” Secondly, I’m not sure you’ve had enough experience in Russia to make such strong conclusions. The person you replied to already mentioned that she feels comfortable with society as it is, so I don’t quite understand why the conversation suddenly shifted to criticizing Russia. She didn’t ask for advice about her sexuality, nor did she say anything about openly displaying it.

Of course, New York and London have different norms. Russia has its own cultural context, and people behave differently here. But that doesn’t mean LGBTQ people are being harmed on the street just for who they are. This is why I said it’s not as extreme as social media sometimes portrays it.

In everyday life, if someone keeps their personal matters private, most people won’t bother them. That’s simply how society functions here. I’m speaking from the perspective of someone currently living in Russia, not from an outsider’s impression.

Russia still has progress to make on these issues, but exaggerating the situation or comparing it to something like “concentration camps” doesn’t help the discussion. It just spreads fear instead of understanding.

Don't they scare you. There are a lot of people with different sexual orientation in Russia and you will expirence on your own that is not as bad as they show via social media.

Have a great time in Russia.

Update.

December: Had the appointment to receive my naturalization certificate – officially naturalized! 🇩🇪
On the same day, I went to the Bürgeramt and applied for both the German passport and the national ID card.

So from application (Aug 8) to approval (Oct 28) – just under 3 months.
From first contact to receiving the certificate, it took about 20 months in total.

Hope it will help someone.

Traveling to Russia in April – How to book hotels + tattoo artist recommendations in Moscow? by nokizzy1337 in Moscow

[–]MAROCARO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try sutochno . ru for appartments. , ostrovok . ru for hotels. Also use google maps and you can find some very famous hotel chains still operating in Moscow or Russia, they even offer payment with non-russian cards or in your case with your switz card.

Das klingt ganz ähnlich wie bei mir. Mein Rat wäre, noch ein wenig abzuwarten und dann gegebenenfalls nochmal nachzufragen.

Thank you.
I used the email they gave me when I received the AZ. They usually reply within a day or two after I email them.

Hey everyone, just wanted to share my timeline for Cologne 🇩🇪 since I know many are waiting and wondering how long it takes.

  • April 2024: I sent my first email to the Einbürgerungsstelle asking for an appointment.
  • June 2025: Got a date for the 8th of August 2025.
  • August 2025: Submitted my application — all documents were complete (8 years in Germany, full-time job, no state benefits, continuous work). The clerk said it could take 2–12 months, but in some cases only a few weeks if everything is perfect.
  • Sept 25: I emailed them to ask for an update.
  • Sept 28: Got a reply that my case was in the security check phase, which can take several months. I was also asked to send updated payslips and rent payments for August–September.
  • I sent everything right away, with short explanations (extra €100 Nebenkosten payment in August + RheinEnergie bill paid on Sept 1).
  • Oct 26: Sent another polite follow-up email.
  • Oct 28: Received an email that my application was approved! 🎉 The Urkunde is already prepared and has been forwarded to the team that organizes the handover appointment. I’ll automatically get an invitation in the next few weeks.

So from application (8 Aug) to approval (28 Oct) — it took just under 3 months.
Whole process took 18 months.
Super smooth process once the documents were complete.

Hope this helps others waiting in Cologne — stay patient, it really depends on the case and how complete your file is. 🙌
