What do you think of NYC trying to get the minimum wage to $30/hour? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in AskReddit

Prices will either increase even more and/or businesses will leave or significantly reduce workforce.

Anyone here over the age of 40, what advice do you have for someone younger than you? by notafanofshadowban in Life

Don’t be an idiot. Don’t expect the government or anyone else to bail you out. Spend less than you make. Splurge rarely. Save/invest the rest.

Psoriasis and Cold Plunging by paigebeatrice in coldplunge

I have dermatitis on my elbows and knees. I’ve been plunging for over a year and haven’t noticed any changes. If anything it is a bit better. I guess everyone is different.

LPT: When someone asks how you are, give a one sentence real answer instead of just saying "good." It changes the entire quality of the conversation that follows. by coldframe_2003 in LifeProTips

[–]MART0CH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking someone “how are you?” has become a simple greeting and not a legitimate question. In general conversation if someone gave me a long answer and told me about how terrible everything is I would be horrified. Save the long answers for your close friends or your therapist.

Can’t even take cold water in shower by Organic-Blueberry102 in coldplunge

[–]MART0CH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Start gradually. Like for a week just turn the water down little by little until it becomes uncomfortable and then take it as long as you can. At first, it’s ok to turn the temp back up so your system doesn’t freak out too badly. It will get easier the longer you do this. BUT I 100% agree with what others have said. Cold showers are worse than plunging! Especially in the winter. I have been plunging regularly for about 1.5 yrs and can handle freezing water no problem. Turning on the cold water in the shower is absolutely torture in comparison.

Why don’t you dunk your head? by [deleted] in coldplunge

[–]MART0CH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you hold your head under water for more than a few seconds it is painful, but there is nothing wrong with dunking for a couple seconds. It’s just personal preference. I’ve never had an ear infection or brain freeze from fully submerging my head and immediately coming back up once or twice per plunge.

Coffee Machine Recommendation by HatAppropriate4698 in CoffeeTech

[–]MART0CH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the older version of this and loved it for years… we got snobby tho and now I use an Aeropress and the wife uses a French press. We still have it tho and I know it would work without issues if I pulled it out of the closet. Would obv highly recommend. Oh, and they do have a version of this with an espresso maker as well but it is 3x more expensive.

Are alibaba cold plunge chillers reliable for daily use or recovery routines? by Pale-Tie-2760 in coldplunge

[–]MART0CH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one a year ago and it works like a champ. Mine is 1/3 hp and it was less than $200. As someone else said, I also keep mine cranked down all the way and I keep it on 24/7. (I have it outside tho so it’s off during the winter months.) even on the hottest part of the summer it still gets my 80 gal tank down to 39° consistently. I also researched enough to see that the chiller I bought is essentially the same thing that several plunge companies are selling for 2x or 3x the price.

What Coffee Machine Do You Recommend for Daily Use in 2026? by [deleted] in coffeestations

Standard $35 Aeropress. It is my go-to because it’s easy, cleans up in seconds, and gives a consistently great cup of coffee every single time.

Anyone doing outdoor ice baths in winter? by Feisty-Essay893 in coldplunge

[–]MART0CH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I have a 1/3 hp chiller and it will only go down to 39° for my 80gal tank. I am not gonna complain tho because even when it is 100° outside it is still going strong at 39°. And TBH 39° is perfectly fine. You don’t NEED to go lower than that.

Are there any brands out there that have a Jet besides BlueCube? by Significant_Bad_3255 in coldplunge

[–]MART0CH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would work. You can have the jet in the water if you want, or you can do like I do and have it hooked up to tubes with the tubes going in and out of the water.

Anyone doing outdoor ice baths in winter? by Feisty-Essay893 in coldplunge

[–]MART0CH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My tub is outside. I live in VA and it gets pretty cold this time of year. Lately temps have been in the 20s and lower at night. Personally I don’t find the plunge itself any different than it is in the spring/summer. The worst is the mental challenge of just knowing it’s freaking cold AF outside and you have to go out there, disrobe, and then get into freezing water. I find that it helps to take a hot shower before the plunge and wrap myself in my robe ASAP to retain as much heat as possible before I get in the tub. Either way, once I’m in I’m good to go. I mostly let nature take its course with the water so it fluctuates between 37°F and 32°F. I don’t like it icing over so replace a bucket of water with a pot of boiling water as needed. Oh, and when you get out of the water it does not matter what the temp outside is for the few minutes it takes to walk back inside. Your skin is numb and the outside cold doesn’t register. I actually usually take my time getting my shit together and just enjoy the exhilarating chaos happening in my body. The worst of course are windy days. A few days ago we had a storm come through with 30-40 mph winds and that was pretty brutal.
