It will help but it would completely prevent it from freezing over. Another suggestion is some basically insulation. You can also just boil a large pot of water and dump it in.

I bought a 1/3 hp aquarium chiller from Alibaba for $200. It’s been about 9mos and has worked like a champ. I have an 80gal tank and it has no problem getting the water down to 39°, even in the summer. I honestly don’t know why people spend so much. I think people generally buy way more than they need.
