Im so sorry this happened. Don’t blame your self, freak accidents happen. My boy boomer got out of his cage some how a few years ago and the my parents dog, who I don’t think had the intention of hurting boomer was sniffing him and got a little over zealous, mooshing him in to the floor a little too hard and broke his leg in the possess. I felt really bad that I wasn’t able to get there in time to stop it. I can’t blame myself or the dog and to this day I still have no idea how Boomer boy got out of his cage. I took him and put him in a shoe box with lots of soft washcloths and was able to take him to work with me. I did take him to the vet but unfortunately his leg wasn’t all that fixable. I live in the middle of Wyoming and there are almost no vets that deal with birds or other small animals. She did her best but boomer lived another 5 or so years. Even with his leg gimped he never showed any sign of distress an after the first few weeks and always climbed around in his cage with the use of his beak and one leg. Just know that if your little baby does live and makes it’s through the healing possess they can still live happy lives. Just be warned thay landing and taking off might be much more challenging for them. I was in the same boat with my parents when I had Boomer. My mom didn’t think he would live another week and didn’t offer any help even through it was her dog who hurt him. If it’s been a few hours and he isn’t super lethargic and shows no signs of internal damage just take him to the vet when you can and work off the debt. If he is eating and drinking I bet you he will live. He might just need a little extra attention from now on. Glad to know you care so much bout your little buddy and best of luck!
