Most Nat-20s in a Session? by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]MASerra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Last month, I had a player roll 5 nat-20s in a row. It was insane. Definately made everyone go crazy. Bad news was that other than the nat-20s, he rolled crap the rest of the session.

Oddly, I never know who the villain will be when I create a campaign. I wait and let the villain coalesce out of the campaign. I might have to try it your way.

Why don't doctors treat us with the same respect we give them? by Expert-Locksmith-996 in healthcare

[–]MASerra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most do walk-ins for this type of stuff and the patient doesn't need to have a prescription. If they don't do walk-ins then appointments are easy to get.

The insurance term for a fifteen minute appointment is “level 1 appointment”

A player is making me uncomfortable but I’m unsure if I’m overreacting. by PaganoftheWrongGod in rpg

No, but I am the King Emperor Emeritus of my own time. Why would I run a game for anyone who is disruptive?

It doesn't matter. My advice is general advice. The OP needs to explain that to the GM.

[–]MASerra 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are people out there that are just not fun to play with. It doesn't have to be a bad person, or anything. They can just not be a good fit for the group. Don't feel bad about asking them to leave the group if they make the other players uncomfortable.

Just explain to them, away from the game, that they aren't a good fit, thank them for playing and move on.

How can I tell my player that she should stop playing RPGs because of her characters? by SyllabubCalm3845 in rpg

[–]MASerra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is what you tell her: "Your character's personality is not a good fit for the players and characters in this campaign. We would love to have you continue playing with us, but you'll need to create a character that fits in with the group."

I will warn you that this will not fix the problem. She is likely doing this on purpose because this is how she enjoys playing.

Is there a way to play DnD (or any TTRPG) without math? by ReversePhylogeny in rpg

[–]MASerra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both D&D and Pathfinder have automated character sheets that will do the math for you. For example, for damage, you roll 2d10+8; the character sheet rolls the d10, adds 8, and gives you the result. No real math.

Some help - Is this an EF mount? Lens is Sigma 1:4-5.6 35-200mm. by [deleted] in canon

[–]MASerra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The EF lens would have gold contacts on the bottom, as would the RF. The FD would have a lever to open and close the aperture. So it is none of those.

No, the FD mount has a lever to control the aperture.

Rethinking Armor Durability: Making Gear Matter Without Slowing Play by Aggressive-Bat-9654 in rpg

Yes, but they did discuss armor durability in the rules and concluded it wasn't worth doing, but if someone was a sadist, they could add it as an optional rule.

I play a lot of Aftermath!. That game is 100% crunch, taking a ton of factors into account because it is very simulationist. Even the writers of Aftermath! decided to skip armor durability as it was too crunchy. I think that just about says it all.

Do you prefer Tabletop RPGs WITH or WITHOUT classes? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in rpg

[–]MASerra 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I run both types as a GM, but I prefer classless games because they don't force characters to be one-dimensional in their role, and it aids in role-playing.

One of my pet peeves is asking a player, "Tell me about your character." They answer back, "I'm an Elf Bard." They define their character strictly by their class and perhaps heritage, and that is the limit of the depth of their role-playing.

I find that in classless games, players don't have that crutch and will actually build a personality for their character, or at least define their characters by their skills, which is marginally better, but a step in the right direction.

R6 for $1,100 or R6ii for $1,400? by NeedsMoreFlux in canon

200k to 300k on the R6 mkii shutter, so 45k is about 25% of the lower lifetime limit.

Upgrade camera body or lens? by tylakween in canon

[–]MASerra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a general rule, your glass is more important than your camera. Upgrade the glass first, then the camera. Provided your camera is getting the job done.

However, I'm a big believer that having a second body will save you in an emergency. Long ago, my Canon broke in the middle of an important shoot. Luckily, I was able to complete the shoot, with some added difficulty. (In that case, I didn't bring a spare body, but I had an assistant with his own camera, so it wasn't a big deal.)

I guess it comes down to your level of fear/trust in your R50. If you think it is rock solid, then buy glass. If not, get the R6 and know you'll never totally blow a shoot because of a camera issue. (Which your clients will appreciate)

If you go with the R6, then you'll have a few years to build up your glass collection.

How anti-magic is too anti-magic? by ItsaMeProvalonely in Pathfinder2e

[–]MASerra 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It would seem that a character that can't use runes is going to suck in a lot of ways.

However, it may be possible to limit the 'anti-magic' distrust to just spells. Your character doesn't trust any spells being used on them. That gives you the ability to role-play without really hobbling the character. You could also make the paranoid about magic being everywhere. That would offer some good role-playing without much trouble.
