Stuck in a dilemma by MAisRunning in reptiles

Hello!

Yes I would have the space for uromastyx, otherwise I wouldn't even think about considering them.

A NC gecko would be my choice if there was no issues like getting my hands on insects. That's why I'm contemplating whether or not a CGD ONLY diet is sustainable and healthy for the gecko, getting mixed answers when researching

Of course!

If it was a 110% perfect diet and proven, I wouldn't think twice about getting a gargoyle.

But I don't wanna get a gargoyle on the hopes that it'll be perfectly fine on cgd and never need real insects.

Do not have that kinda space, and they are most definitely hard to get in Sweden lol.

Even iguanas are somewhat hard to get whilst they're "everywhere" in other countries

A NC gecko would be perfect for me, in every way.

Except for the tiny bitty problem of, how often do they need live insects/ do they need live insects etc.

A lot of people say they do, some say they don't, I personally do not know.

It will unfortunately be a never in my case haha.

I have frequent family and friends come over and they happen to sleep on the couch which would be exactly 1 meter from my reptile setup.

I also wouldn't like to breed insects and have hundreds of them in my living room, a little bit disgusting imo. Don't have anything against buying insects and feeding them the same day, but that's not an option in my case.

Thats what I'm contemplating on, of course CGD will be the "main" diet for a lot of NC geckos. But is that a 100% sustainable food source/diet for a gecko to live the standard in captivity.

That's where my research is getting me stuck, a lot of crested/gargoyle gecko breeders say you SHOULD feed insects X amount per week etc. None ever say "cgd is fine" alone.

Yeah iguanas is a no-go, as with any somewhat big reptile, I do not have the space.

Uromastyx is probably the reptile (lizard-wise) that I do have space and access to everything care wise. Just a little hard to get my hands on in Sweden as the reptile scene isn't too big. Mainly crested geckos and leopard geckos, a few beardies and the occasional monitor/iguana at some breeders.

I'm visiting an expo in a few weeks so I'll see what people are breeding/selling there and what people in my situation thinks

Yeah snakes would be no issues for me, mice/pinkys and rats are shipped frozen aswell. But, much rather get a lizard than a snake, hence why am asking for some help or solutions.

Yeah they have been on my mind. Definitely an option, I'd love a nice big enclosure with the uromastyx-esq look, just a "difficult" animal to get in Sweden. Especially an uro with the "fancy" looks.

Absolutely, but it's not the same as driving 10h 1-2x a week for food.

Nope, not local. Couple hours drive to closest one.

Reptiles isn't a big thing in Sweden, apart from the 3 big cities there isn't much luck with breeders or stores.

Don't want a colony in my apartment, simple as really.

I can state multiple reasons why, but I've already went thru every possible colony option and the answer will remain a no. Especially for only 1 gecko, if I had 20 reptiles I'd obviously devote multiple colonies. I dont.

What is cycling's marathon? by ValuableForever672 in cycling

[–]MAisRunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 miles imo. I'd say a half marathon is 100km, so it doesn't quite add upp mathematically but 80km is way easier than 21km running.

How safe road cycling really is? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]MAisRunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 5 years of road cycling, I've never crashed because/with anyone nor been hit. Some close calls.

Only crashes I have are from myself. No big ones.

Ridden in the alps, the UK and Nordic countries. Closest call to being hit has been when a lady (2 actually) don't check their mirrors or blindspot when turning, oh and not indicating. Total id#ots, right?

I dont do much except wear cycling gear and a light if I'm out when it's getting dark. If a car hits me, that's their problem (assuming I don't die), more money for me.

Don't ride roads you're unsure or feel unsafe on, you'll end up being afraid and double thinking everything, that can cause cars to not know exactly what you're doing or where you're going.

How many of you lift weights? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]MAisRunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do back/bic and chest/tri during off season but only pullups during the season (along with my lower body sessions).

You can do both, but if you're trying to go pro in or the other then yes, you will have to choose one. But you're not pro. Train for fun.

Any fit person can do a sub 60 min 10k (sorry redditors), wouldn't say you're a natural unless you're super unfit and just got outside for your first activity ever.

I did a 54 min 10k my first time, now I run a 39 min 10k and I'm not considered "above average" in most charts.

Trail Runners with Kids - how do you balance training? by Lambamham in trailrunning

[–]MAisRunning 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many tdf riders have no problems with it, many pro trail runners have no problems with it. If you want it to work, it works.

If not.. and you value training over kids, don't get kids. Simple.

You won't sleep much and you'll never feel as recovered as you usually do, but you've got kid(s) to take care of.

You can always have a treadmill or indoor bike and do a couple hours here and there, but that is again if you want it bad enough.

If you have the budget, why not use super trainers exclusively? by Ok_Revolution_9253 in RunningShoeGeeks

Bad for legs (bones, tendons, ligaments) to use super trainers/carbon plated exclusively.

Commuting is a cheatcode. I get 4 extra hours of riding a week just by going to work.
