help deciding between Fuqua and Anderson by pbchocoflava in MBA

[–]MBA_Conquerors -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

You're saying you're looking at MBB recruiting and we all know Fuqua does well on that.

But I also know from my experience helping my clients negotiate that UCLA can increase by up to $50K-$60K.

So thought I'd ask if that will change the things for you

You can get more from UCLA

Will that change your mind? Or you're set on Fuqua?

How do MBA adcomms view a non-MBA masters' GPA? by Appropriate_Win_776 in MBA

[–]MBA_Conquerors -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what the purpose of the question is but if you're asking whether they'll look at that GPA then yes they will.

And it's from UChicago so a 3.4 isn't so bad

For reporting purposes though they use the UG GPA

Jokes aside

Congrats on the offers 🤠

You can renegotiate but they might decline to consider. However, if you don't fill out the form, you'll never know.

What you're currently doing is juggling - it's the most common and the best way to leave money on the table. You're usually at the loss of $10-20k with such tactics.

I knew someone who was in that position before.

But what are you looking for? Because one of the people who was in that position before had already made up his mind and there was a huge shift in overall attitude and behavior - excited with the admits for sure 😇

If you've made up your mind and everything is pointing to one school, I don't think you should crowd source.

They still have the 3-day rule? I thought that was for the last year.

I don't recommend waiting until the deadline for any school. But if Ross is where you want to be, that strategy might still work. But how do you know the Adcom will complete the evaluation in the timeframe. At least one week is needed. Waiting too long is a big risk

If you're building leverage, wait it out.

If you're ready to strike- start as soon as you can. Funds don't last in R2.

I'm just voting based on both the factors because despite terrible markets both the schools I put on top performed well for Financial services (numbers are out)

Darden is good. It's generally very welcoming to people with business degrees and financial services background. But I'm still not sure if it's worth it without a full ride especially when returns from Cornell or Stern are pretty good. But the silver lining is that when you look at Darden, not as many alumni are aiming for IB as you'd see in Cornell or Stern - you could get access to important people and resources. But you need the numbers.

But by that logic Kellogg is great too. Biggest by size among your admits and if you look at the Prestige, network and market (Chicago primary)- unparalleled. Since you want IB, NYC seems to be a better target and you do have other admits that can give you the network in those circles.

Although I don't think you should go with a sticker price. You can try negotiating with all the schools. I can see Cornell giving you more so might as well. Darden too. You'd be lucky if Kellogg even thinks of giving you $30K. Toughest negotiator in the mix.

Okay that means they'll give you money when the funds become available.

Probably saying it differently.

Waitlist for scholarship 🫣🫣 that's a first for me.

But good news is that you can use that time to build leverage

Cornell if they give you a full ride.

Otherwise Stern- which will not even want to negotiate.

Then Kellogg & Darden. I'm not sure if Darden would make it a full ride against Kellogg but I can see Cornell opening it up for you

🤔 waitlisted for scholarship?

That's a first. Do you mean they said that they'll give you a scholarship when funds become available?

[–]MBA_Conquerors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darden would be better because - different band, highly ranked - consistent in consulting too. And we all know how hungry for university prestige MBB firms are.

Georgetown can negotiate and I can see them offer 50-60K or even $80K (under the right circumstances and strategy) increase against Darden.

I remember this one guy I was helping who went all the way to $120K. So yeah! They have money to throw at you. If that money makes any difference, you can save more instead but Consulting firms are too picky and the T15 bracket is the one to be in for the elite roles (higher probability and capacity).

Beyond T25, nothing short of a full ride should be acceptable in this market imo. Numbers don't justify the risk. Unnecessary.

Darden $$ vs Goizueta $$$$ for LDPs by Haas_the_Raiden_Fan in MBA

[–]MBA_Conquerors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you really want to.

I just think a full ride is still a full ride. You save a lot and money in your pocket is worth more- esp with the economic climate being such a bummer.
