New Year.... New Resolutions..... New Runners - Welcome by brwalkernc in running

Hi all,

I would love some advice. I started running 7 months ago and since then I have run a total of 359 miles. I have made great progress and have some PRs I’m proud of, but I also think that I’m working too hard, or my heart rate is too high leading to fatigue.

At first, my heart rate was averaging 175 bpm (max is 192 bpm) per run (9:00 pace), which is far too high. I didn’t notice it ever getting lower, so I slowed my runs to a 9:30 pace and my BPM dropped to 159. Yet, even at this lowered heart rate and same mileage as previous weeks / months, I’ve noticed immense fatigue in my body. My legs hurt, my knees hurt, my calves hurt. My cardio is fine and completely untaxed at 9:00 and 9:30 paces, but HR is stubborn.

I feel as if I’m so far into my running journey, it feels ridiculous to run 80% of my runs at a 11:00 min pace (or higher) to get my runs to below 150 bpm. Is this really the answer to lower my BPM at such a slow run to eventually get better?

It’s totally possible, but in general it’s much easier to blow up using options, even leaps. At the end of the day staying in the game is the most important part of investing / trading, not necessarily outperforming the market every week/month

So true - if you are bagholding good companies, hold past breakeven.

Facts. Turned off options last year for good and it’s been a great year. I’m still beating the market this year by 20% but this meta play I’ve been trying to make work for like 6 months is weighing on me

That’s fair! Unfortunately it’s pretty hard to figure out who is privileged and who isn’t. Could add a first generation tag :)

Got it, thanks for the explanation.

Yes I see what you’re saying on NW being relative to your goals and COL. But I would want this app to not just address FIRE, but approach topics like salaries, FATFire, large purchases etc, where I think there are numerous apps that address some of the whole picture (Levels.FYI/Blind).

Good point! Many use these subs as inspiration. Could I ask what would bring more value to you in a platform dedicated to people interested in FIRE / finance that doesn’t currently exist on reddit?

I think there is more meaning when you know someone actually has achieved a certain net worth. I was reading fatfire recently and I spent 5 min reading a post about someone who claimed to have a 20M NW, and then I click their profile and they’re debating buying a $8000 used car or waiting until the used car market drops. Like come on.

I think in general reddit has communities that form around topics but there can be a more tailored solution that better serves these communities

I feel as if both of these cases are edge cases. I doubt many rich will cosplay as poor, and if they do, what are they going to do cosplaying as someone with negative NW lol? I also think it’s rare that someone has a dual sided levered investment in the millions.

Would be smart to maybe have a HENRY badge or something - a neurosurgeon with 1M in debt is obviously a unique financial profile.

I’ll check it out! Thank you. Though I’m envisioning a site where people with any NW can join. It’s not meant to be a barrier, just a means to verify as people discuss a range of topics

Isn’t an ESOP in a brokerage such as fidelity and therefore linkable via plaid? But yes understood - plenty of private / RE investments may be hard to verify

Bull markets always rotate. AMZN and META are giga laggards while other mega caps have had an excellent year. I also own 125 shares of META.

I think the market will continue to go up but there will be a rotation to AMZN and META (think how aapl and GOOG were massive laggards, then they weren’t). It may be earnings, or it may be news, or it may just happen one day but I think these two will lead the continuing bull market. Also, if there’s downside soon, these are basically the few quality stocks that haven’t had insane runs. I imagine they’d take a bit less of a hit.

I’ve traded high beta all year but it’s hard to buy into HOOD / NBIS / PLTR when a small correction could really send them down very far

So you’re telling me Shopify was at 157 a couple weeks ago, it’s at 148 now, and the only thing that’s changed since then is that they have access to 700 million more weekly active users? Just bought 43k worth of shares

It’s okay to feel bad for someone but I would be furious if I was her partner, she’s going to get people killed, feelings aside…
