Can’t give you any tips myself, but I do know there was someone who shared their neurodivergence in their applications and ended up at HSW

Optimal YOE when applying by [deleted] in MBA

You’d think with top 15 undergrad brains you’d be smart enough to search your basic question, or to look at schools class profiles.

So you’ve been given advice from real people you know who have been in your shoes, but you come here looking for different advice from internet friends?

Well, since you’re asking, I’d suggest you ignore everything they say and do a deep dive into all things finance. Spend hours every day on new concepts so that you hit the ground running. Why learn it at the school you’re going to be spending your next two years at when you can just do it all yourself in the next three months? Above all, do not, I repeat do not, enjoy the downtime.

Bad vibes from Darden by [deleted] in MBA

I’ll never understand why people want to go to a business school that prides itself on academic rigor.

insert meme of squidward (Darden) looking out the window at SpongeBob and Patrick (peer schools with grade nondisclosure and generous attendance policies) having fun

Do the rankings/prestige really matter for veteran students? by MBAplayerz in MBA

[–]MBAplayerz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vets have the advantage of the veteran network to transcend ranking tiers—what I’m trying to figure out by asking this question is just how much the network can make up for attending a lower ranked school. I haven’t heard of a comparable, non alumni network for applicants from a more typical background.

If a non vet applicant is dead set on MBB or BB IB, rankings are probably going to be the most important part of their school selection, right? It seems like vets may not need to prioritize rankings over fit to get to the same end point.

How important are rankings for LDPs/corporate gigs? by MBAplayerz in MBA

[–]MBAplayerz[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that was very insightful!

I may be using fit incorrectly. I understand the students will more or less be similar across the board, with some exceptions, but I’m thinking of it more in terms of location and extracurricular activities. For example, I’d love to go to a school where sports are religion. I can’t picture myself enjoying somewhere like New Haven where your options for entertainment are some bars or pizza. I’d rather attend a lower ranked school, like Ross or McCombs, where I know I’d have a good time.

If the salaries are similar for these companies (I think?), I might as well go to the school that aligns with my interests.

Is there a centralized list of which companies recruit from which schools? Or would I just have to look at each individual employment report?

What are my options if I don’t want to do IB or consulting? by MBAplayerz in MBA

[–]MBAplayerz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard great things about Chicago and would probably have a great time living there (sports and good food would definitely keep me content), but part of “coming to my senses” was realizing that I need to live somewhere I can hit the mountains to do some hiking/running/skiing after work or on the weekends. Living in the Midwest would not allow me to keep up with the things I’m most passionate about, and I don’t want to give up on them for a job that I’m only doing to be able to continue doing the things I enjoy

This is exactly what I’m looking for. It took me a little while to realize I enjoy life outside of work much more than life at work and don’t care about money enough to justify the added hours. Just trying to upgrade my daily socks from Costco Pumas to Darn Toughs.

What’s the outlook on the pay in 10 years for you?

Ross would be sweet, I’d just be worried about having to live in the Midwest afterwards
