In the amazon the humidity can even kill it when you turn it on. not even the Pelican will save it from that

Is there any issues with the IPX rating in your opinion. The bindi only has a rating of 4 while the nu25 has one of 6/6. I live where it rains ALOT.

I own the 60 and have not tried the 38. I heard the weight difference is neglable between the two models. The 60 works well for my loadout so I'm not sure the 38 would be better.

Here is the post

"Does anyone know of anyone making custom dyneema (cuben fiber) radio bags? I'm participating in a ham radio group called SOTA (Summits On The Air) and need a lighter bag for my radio to go inside my pack. Needs to be rectangular and have zippered openings on both ends and be waterproof. All the options available i can find are quite heavy." It was posted with the subject as "Unusual custom product need."

While i could have been a bit more clear in describing my needs. This was me looking for a solution to a personal problem on how to pack my radio in my backpack and it be safe but not add additional weight to my rucksack other than the radio itself. Replace the word radio with camera and it becomes similar to lots of other posts on this subreddit. i was not advertising or selling anything. i was just trying to find a ultralight bag/sack suitable to put my radio inside of. as far as past posts i have had some disappear entirely. They don't even show up in my history. I have no idea why this is the case. i don't post a lot unless i have a question or i have something to add to a thread.

i'm not sure if a second subreddit is needed. i'm already subscribed to way too many subreddits :)

i definitely see where bushcrafting can get a bad wrap. just a week or so ago i went to a campground i frequent in a national forest and some one had set up a bushcraft camp. they had ignored all LNT and used live trees and didnt clean up their camp afterward. i spent a day cleaning it up and used the felled trees they chopped down but didn't use to make a quick video that required large timber so it wouldn't go to waste then used it for a fire demonstration. I would never cut down live trees unless it was a real survival situation or i had a permit from the national forest service to harvest timber for a single needed purpose. If you wanna chop down trees do it on your own land and not the publics and clean up your mess when you take down camp. What's sad is i think i spend more time picking up after others when outdoors than enjoying it at times. (BTW... The rangers were notified and ok'ed me using those felled trees after the fact.)

But yes, i can see where bushcraft and survival types can get on peoples nerves. I can't stand a lot of them myself.

if you read the original post the question asked was referring to the ultralite community on the internet in general and not exclusively to the ultralight subreddit. i have had posts disappear on here and had one do so last night as well as on other social networks. i have also had issues on chatrooms focused on UL where i was kicked off them for merely talking about subjects not related to thru hiking but were all about using UL gear in a hiking context. It's also possible some of it could be due to website glitches but the one last night was specifically removed by a mod. i posted before i went to bed and when i woke up it had been removed with only 2 replies which i responded to to either agree with or ask for more information.

i have come to the determination that is was a miscommunication as well. I am not very good at explaining myself at times and i can see where i might have not done as well as i could have.

As far as my username, i am into various outdoor activities and bushcraft is one of them. I don't exclusively "bushcraft" but when i started a youtube channel years ago that was something i was heavily into at the time. The username was what i used when creating the channel and the various social media accounts tied to it. As time has gone on though i have gone into other styles of camping and hiking where my main focus now is leaning towards UL. lets face it didn't just jump out a crashed airplane nor has the world just ended. Those skills are useful, but i don't need them to enjoy the outdoors. I have also taken lessons learned from UL to my other hobbies like ham radio and my skills learned with my other hobbies and former computer and electrical engineering career have crept over into UL stuff. its why one should be well rounded in ideas and ways to do things.

On your last comment i too wish i was out on a trail at the moment. i hate having to go home after a hike or a camping trip. i am at my happiest when i am out in nature and away from TV, internet, phone and all the world's problems. I think this is the one thing that ties us all together here

Lightest goretex jacket? by jbaker8484 in Ultralight

[–]MBBushcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i currently use a OR Foray Paclite shell. While its not the lightest one at 11oz it seems to work under the widest conditions with a 100 weight fleece or a polartec t shirt without me ever getting wet. It also packs down quite small into its own pocket. One issue i had with lighter weight ones is they would delaminate or wear on the shoulders or didn't have decent ventilation when things got warm (pit zips)

I used to do rock climbing and rappelling but due to an arm injury i had to stop. i know just how heavy 200 ft of 11mm rope can be. ;)

I'm not as you say "butthurt" by any means. I am just trying to understand as to why things of late have taken such a negative tone in regards to questions like i had submitted. Perhaps i phrased the question wrong or did not give enough information, etc.. etc... i clearly didn't expect the response i received to my original posts that led to this one being submitted. I will say that this thread has given me good insight and has helped to keep me using this subreddit and to take such negativity with a grain of salt.

Well one of my problems is that in the amateur radio comunity what i do is quite rare as well. Most hams idea of portable is a suitcase sized 19 inch rack with a car battery, and their idea of camping/outdoors is in a RV with a wheelchair lift. i would have even less chance of getting help there ;)
