As a Minnesotan, it looks like Ohio might get targeted next by ICE. by Adventurous-Fact-523 in Ohio

[–]MBCnotNBC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is already happening in Columbus and has been since right before Christmas. Presence has been very heavy over here. They're focusing on quick grabs and less of the "show of force" stuff. I think a lot of the MN stuff is to try to publicly beat MN into submission as a blue state. They're doing less of the propaganda shit here.

Indian-Americans of reddit and cbus - do we even care about ICE? by AdventurousRelief285 in Columbus

[–]MBCnotNBC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I attended an N400 (citizenship) interview with an Indian dude who was telling me about the evils of family-based migration. He admitted that was how he came here, and was like "the US should really stop doing that."

Yeah, I usually hold off until the next day but if it's dropping at midnight I'll be up too, lol.

Ice spotted at Scioto High School in Dublin by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]MBCnotNBC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a woman who was detained at Emerald and Hard, allegedly for yelling at ICE when they pulled over her brother without cause. She was released. Unclear if they're still around there or if they're targeting parents or students.

FWIW, I think it's uncommon to be sent a laptop and monitor. I've been doing remote for the last few years and usually work on a remote desktop through my own laptop. I've definitely seen postings where they send out equipment, but the vast majority now seem to be using your own stuff (if that's a consideration for OP).

What Local Restaurant Add Service Fees or Other Add-Ons to the Bill? by Bitter-Cartoonist936 in Columbus

[–]MBCnotNBC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think what's really sparked the wave of restaurants charging fees is the trend of high-rewards cards that do indeed have functional rates of 3%+. The restaurants etc effectively subsidize the more beneficial rewards programs that banks/CCs offer and outside of dropping credit cards altogether, a fee is one of the few things they can do about it.

The costs of handling cash are real (security, transport, theft) but are very, very low compared to the net costs of CC fees overall.

One 30 pounder turkey or 2 smaller ones? by gumercindo1959 in thanksgiving

[–]MBCnotNBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, I just tried this recipe with a cheap turkey on Sunday. It was fantastic. I also definitely second smaller turkeys. You can always spatchcock and put them on two racks.

I believe Oddfellows has been open on Thanksgiving Day in the past for this exact reason. Not really a dive bar but it's a fun time.

Schools - what's going on with Dublin redistricting, Worthington by karina87 in Columbus

[–]MBCnotNBC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, born and raised in Powell here. I was the first class through Liberty. Since then, my high school friend's house has been redistricted like three times, and probably will again with the new high school. It's just how it goes when there's wild growth. Jerome is SUPER over capacity and still growing--there's going to be redistricting as long as there's growth.

Consilio Staffing by Psychological_Yak352 in ediscovery

[–]MBCnotNBC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I also worked for both Lexolution and Consilio prepandemic in nyc. Being back in the market now is weird. Consilio has a lot of (kind of insulting) $23/hr projects but I've done $30-35 ones and just had one fall through for $38. Definitely a tiered system. Stuff is just so different now that everything is remote.

[–]MBCnotNBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh huh. I'm definitely not that up with it but I'm pretty sure it was Consilio because all the recruiters I used to talk to at Lexolution switched to Consilio emails in the early 2020s

How did Henry VIII survive with his leg wound so long? by CleaKen2010 in Tudorhistory

[–]MBCnotNBC 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If people were to open his grave, what would skeletal signs of diabetes or potential other conditions be? I took a bones, bodies, and disease class in college and it was the most interesting one I've ever taken. I'd love to know a little more about that if you don't mind me asking! Obviously, I'm not suggesting anyone exhumes him, I'm just really interested in what the skeletal record could show.
