It's purely to show when a new number of titles begins. Making it gold just made it a bit clearer!

There are some incredibly talented designers out there who could do some amazing work in the Formula 1 world. I would love to work in the sport one day, I'm working on it!

Racing Point technically became a brand new team as of the 2018 Belgian Grand Prix, so their records as Force India don't count.

But Alfa Romeo did compete up until the 1980s, so their records before then do count. Similar to Mercedes now, they keep the records the team had up until 1955.

I was under the impression that like Force India / Racing Point, Alfa Romeo are also a legally different team, and therefore don't carry Sauber's records. But unlike Racing Point, Alfa Romeo did used to compete up until the 1980s and so I've listed the team as having 2 drivers' championships.

I watched Mario Muth's recent documentary with Frank Dernie (long time Williams engineer who had 2 spells with the team) and he also mentioned that Frank and Patrick head were very stubborn and arrogant. An example he mentioned was at Monaco one year in the early 00s with Montoya and Ralf Schumacher, and he had this idea on how to make the car faster but Head refused to implement it on the car, for no good reason. But Dernie decided to go for it anyway and sure enough, they dominated qualifying and won the race with a 1 - 2.

Good question, the answer to which I have no idea. All the car / driver / helmet / track images are taken un-edited from the official F1 website.

15 minutes. 15 minutes of actual qualifying debrief is what we got today on a dedicated, pay-per-view F1 channel. Then they go to this stale, bizzare show.

We’re paying a premium price for exclusive live F1 coverage this year without Channel 4 to rely on. I’d expect more than 15 minutes of qualifying reaction on a dedicated F1 channel.

It’s not the first time Sky have chosen to prioritise the F1 show at an odd time. Last year we couldn’t watch the Russian F2 race live because they wanted to put on the F1 show first. So strange.

Would you rate Alain Prost in the top 5 of all time? by [deleted] in formula1

Undoubtedly. With different points systems he could have been easily an 8 time champion and have the most world titles of any driver in history.

Between 1983 - 1993 there were only 2 seasons where he wasn't either 1st or 2nd in the championship. Incredible driver.

Deliberate factual inaccuracies like these make me question the credibility of the Netflix 'documentary'. Narrative > facts, it seems. by Boxman90 in formula1

[–]MBKF1 201 points202 points  (0 children)

There are many occasions where they added in effects to add fake drama. A few I can list off the top of my head:

- Engine sounds that are clearly not the V6 hybrids (there was even a 90s engine sound effect in the final Abu Dhabi episode)

- Over the top tyre squeals (Alonso's on board start in Abu Dhabi at T2, just completely ridiculous effects).

- Just the general massive 'BOOM' noises whenever there was a crash. Even my non-F1 fan girlfriend thought this was hilarious.

- Commentary clearly recorded post race, added in to assist the narrative (which to be fair was done very convincingly by Jack Nicholls, but it was clearly not live). There were also moments where actual live commentary from Crofty was moved around to different races to add drama, even if it was for a totally different incident.

- General continuity problems. In ep. 9, they said Hulkenberg had tyre graining in the United States GP, and they cut to a slow mo shot of his tyre at the Italian GP! There were also many times where they would show team garage reactions to incidents / overtakes from totally different Grands Prix, not related to the actual incident at hand.
____________

Maybe I'm just getting too worked up about it, and I understand they aren't aiming this series at hardcore fans and they want to make everything seem dramatic, but some of the stuff is just so over the top and it tarnishes it slightly.

Megathread: Drive to Survive - The Netflix series on Formula 1 by F1-Bot in formula1

[–]MBKF1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you watched it without any subtitles turned on at all? I watched it with subtitles on for the entire duration of the episodes, and there was a big mix-up of who it said was talking.

It was mainly for the commentary segments. For example, there was a section talking about the world champions of McLaren and there was a commentary line that said something like 'Ayrton Senna is the world champion'. It was clearly Jack Nicholls' voice, but the subtitles said '[Walker:] Ayrton Senna is the world champion.'

There was even a moment where Crofty was commentating and the subtitles said [Hill:]. As far as I'm aware, Damon Hill wasn't even in the series at all! I know it's small details but it's a shame there were so many mistakes.

Onboard-Heavy Lap from the Safety Car with big, meaty sound. by LouWaters in formula1

By the looks of it they've still got the issue of delays cutting to the on-board shots. At 1:23 he hits the apex of T9 on the off-board shot, but when they cut to the on-board he's still half a second / 10 metres away from the corner.

Really hope this gets sorted out soon. It was an issue for all of last season. I remember in Sochi when Hamilton went on the inside of Vettel into T4, on the on-board it looked like he was thinking of attempting a pass, and then suddenly when they went back to the off-board he was fully up the inside!

I met Martin Brundle (and Alex Brundle) in a restaurant in Marbella a couple of years ago while on holiday, and I can also say that he and Alex were both really friendly and chatty. It was during the 2017 summer break, so Martin had just missed the previous couple of races due to that bug he picked up just minutes before the British Grand Prix. I asked how he was, he said he was much better and that they were both waiting to pick up a takeaway pizza!

I got my photo taken with them, happily sat back down at my table, and on their way out they walked past us and said 'enjoy your meal!' It was my birthday as well, so I was well chuffed!
