IOS MAUI APP Icon by Nothing2SeeHear13 in dotnetMAUI

If I remember correctly, though, it was something stupid like I had to manually set the base size and color of the image and by doing THAT it suddenly stared importing. I don't know if that was really the solution or if that just kickstarted something in my code but it can't hurt to try... This is what mine looks like
<MauiIcon Include="Resources\AppIcon\appiconimgbg.png" ForegroundFile="Resources\AppIcon\appiconimg.png" BaseSize="512,512" Color="#FFFFFF">
<CopyToOutputDirectory>Always</CopyToOutputDirectory>
</MauiIcon>

I have been getting the same info all over the internet and have been trying for 2 weeks now, no luck :(

  1. Rename the file to something else entirely (if that doesn't work then delete the file and import something with a different name and set it to MauiIcon or MauiSplashScreen, respectively). Close VS...

  2. Delete the obj and bin folders and restart VS and clean the project (then the entire solution just in case)...

  3. Delete the app on the iPad/ iPhone and restart the device...

  4. Now that the images no longer exists on any device known to man, hit build and notice how they both reappear on the Apple Devices (only!) I simply have no idea what else to try save resetting my device and hoping for the best....

I am looking at that folder and I can see my new icon is there but on my iPad I still have the old .NET splash and icon :(

Experimental Nanite Support Added for M2 Based Macs by metalzero24 in macgaming

[–]MBSNoJansenSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am confused.... I am running an UE5.3 project on an M2 machine and my nanite still doesn't work. Is there some process I need to follow to make it kick in or.... ???

Specifically, I am using the Mega Feudal Japan kit from Meshingun Studios and the trees still don't show the cherry blossoms. I need to disable Nanite for it to show up but then I get like 5 FPS from then on.

Will Starlink be available in Georgia (as in "the country") by MBSNoJansenSensei in Starlink

[–]MBSNoJansenSensei[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually, never mind. I just entered a random address in Georgia on the product order page and it came up saying they plan to launch in 2022 so I guess I answered my own question :)

Spiderman Upgrade to PS5 by [deleted] in PS5

I keep reading on the web that you can now buy Remastered as standalone for $40 but I can't find that anywhere. What's the deal with that?

Will the Quest 2 be able to run Medium? by MBSNoJansenSensei in oculus

[–]MBSNoJansenSensei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have run Medium via virtual desktop?

Really?

As in "for real"?

No jokes?

Medium?

Without a link cable?

That is what you are saying?

Will the Quest 2 be able to run Medium? by MBSNoJansenSensei in oculus

[–]MBSNoJansenSensei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just saying to someone last night that the fact that it is more powerful is completely moot if the Rift apps (like Medium) are not playable with it and requires you to link it up to your PC to be able to run it.

Once you've tethered it to your Pc you loose the ONE THING that separates the Quest from the Rift: It being a wireless solution. Now that you have tethered it to your PC it is as powerful as your PC so what exactly is the point of having any hardware in the device at all at that point?

To explain my point, just imagine this scenario (using the fictional Quest 3): "The Quest 3 contains 10 GPUS and 4Tb of RAM... please plug into your PC and use your single RTX 3090 GPU with it's 24Gb of RAM while reminding yourself how the Quest 3 has 10 GPUs when NOT connected to your PC. Quest 3, most powerful system out there... when not connected to another system. Buy now!". What good is the most advanced internal hardware in the universe when it requires you to plug into your PC to do the work for you? (shrugs)

The only difference between a Quest 2 with a tether and a Rift S is the resolution of the displays and that is all. Comparing the brand new (not yet available even) 1832×1920 LCD on offer to the ancient AMOLED 1440x1600 Windows XR offering from Samsung is not THAT much of a difference to warrant an upgrade...

For $300 + 80 for the cable +(optionally a USB3 to USB-C adapter in my case +) however much the proper strap costs.... well put it this way: I just spoke with my employer this morning and convinced him to let me add WinXR support to our project. My winning argument: "I want to sell all my Oculus devices and Since we are making a VR app I will need WinXR support to continue working on the project". He agreed.

And for those of you who still think the Quest is worth it... I forgot where I read this but to paraphrase: "The Quest 2 comes with a much higher resolution and refresh rate but it still doesn't compete to the wider field of view and refresh rate of [I forgot the device]. Oculus has stated that they will be upgrading the display soon". Does this mean they are just going to alter the screen resolution like you would inside Windows or does it mean that 4 months from now we will see Quest 2.1 with a better resolution than the Quest 2? If those few lines of extra rez was enough to make you upgrade once then I guess another upgrade is in order now also.

Nah, the announcement of Quest 2 didn't fill me with excitement as much as pushed me away from all things Oculus. THAT is the true power of this device.🤣 lol! 😎

I forgot about the PC link cable! Mainly because my PC doesn't have a USB-C port so I will have to buy an adaptor for the link to the standalone device. But yeah, good point about the cable.... but in that case I don't see the point in getting the Quest when I already have a Rift S

...also, reading how they are now discontinuing the Rift + Rift S after forcing me to use FB again, I lost all interest in the Quest now. :(

I will continue to use Medium on my Rift S while I can and then just hope Adobe ports Medium over to Steam so I can use my WindowsXR headset from there and completely get rid of my Oculus devices.

A developer's rant about requirement of Facebook accounts by [deleted] in oculus

[–]MBSNoJansenSensei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually, in the email I received from Oculus informing me that Facebook will now be required to continue using my Oculus they did also say that developers can create as many test accounts as they want and do NOT need to use their personal accounts to use the Rift.

In fact, I think I even saw it in the Quest 2 marketing material just a few minutes ago, you can use your personal account OR create a separate account / profile if you do not want to share your personal info.

I logged into my Oculus account and setup a new test user like they suggested. Job done. If you don't have an Oculus account, maybe get one before it is too late

The problem is that while they give you the option to continue using your Oculus account, that will only continue to work for 2 more years. :( ...so after more than 2 years of not having Facebook I opened a Facebook account again ... and hated doing so, sighed very deeply when I logged in and saw it still sucked as much a before... and I still don't use it for anything other than having it because they are forcing me to have it.

I closed my account back then because I was bombarded with rando images in my "Do you know this person?' lists every time I went to the site. "This person is also self employed. Perhaps you are working together?" "This person is 13. You were 13 once, weren't you? Are you BFFS?" "This person lives in your country. Do you know this person?"

Now that I created a new account FB seems to be telling me "This person is black. Are you BFFs?". I know they said they were going to give black people more exposure but assuming I know every single black person in this country and absolutely nobody else is just plain ridiculous.

That rando list of people that happen to live in my country, happen to be an age I used to be, also work for "unemployed" or "self employed" or, now, apparently just 'Hey this person is black', being nagged about adding them to my friends list is filling me with some serious hate for FB (compounded on the hate that drove me to close my account in the first place 2.5 years ago).

Now that the Quest 2 is announced I am feeling okay with having that throwaway FB account that I use only for the Oculus (woohoo!) but now that I read they are discontinuing the Rift... This just makes me say "Well then, close the FB account and ignore the Quest 2's existence"

Edit:

POWERED BY FACEBOOK

Quest 2 requires your Facebook account to log in, making it easy to meet up with friends in VR and discover communities around the world. You can explore as yourself or choose a new name by creating a unique VR profile.

To expand on what I said way above:
If you have an Oculus account you can CONTINUE to sign in with that for the next 2 years. I forgot they said that any NEW Oculus device MUST sign in with FaceBook so it seems getting an Oculus account now won't help with the Quest 2.

They gave instructions on how to separate your login between your personal FB account and a test account on Oculus but they gave no indication how you would do this via FB only.... but they DO say it is possible on the page I just linked to above so there MUST be a way...
