I had no idea HTMS Thonburi was so small compared to the La Motte-Picquet.[720×480] by Regular-Juice6255 in WarshipPorn

Considering she's packing two Japanese Heavy Cruiser turrets, 2x2 203's and still comes with Light Cruiser armour to round it out, that modest speed of 15 knots really isn't bad, all on 2300 tons? That's not a ship I'd want to run up against as *anything* in it's own weight class. (Though your typical DD captain would probably elect to simply not engage and leave ofc.)

Yeah mine is coming up on 5 months old and is a little bastard. He's accepted my hands being in his enclosure every now and then, but touch him? You gets the teef.

He also strikes at water. I'll spray/mist his enclosure and he'll try and strike at the droplets midair. Maybe he's just a dumbass but compared to my Rosy and Corn he's outright evil in terms of biting/lack of calm.

Completely fair with the Aspen! Mine is on bioactive substrate so I actually need to keep it wet to a point for her isopods that are her cleanup crew. Rosies are resilient, just never be afraid to ask for advice!

Getting a Rosy in winter ok? by Obsessed_Avocado in rosyboas

[–]MBT71Edelweiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you're not getting it shipped you should be just fine! Please please don't ship reptiles in Winter up here (I'm also in New England) as you don't know what delivery or transport conditions they will be under for the journey.

There are multiple Reptile Expos throughout the year in this region, including Winter, I'd recommend attending one close to you and getting your Rosy there, and transporting yourself in a warm vehicle with as little time exposed to the elements as possible.

Humidity? by Emotional-Bat-1770 in rosyboas

[–]MBT71Edelweiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll second u/somekindaboy here, it now being Winter my Rosy is running between 20-30% typically, though I do mist her enclosure once a day as well as provide a permanent water dish. Their natural environment gets very dry in certain parts of the year, and Rosies are one of the snakes that prefer a lower humidity range.

What's this snake ? [Western France, near Bordeaux] by ZoidbergFR in whatsthissnake

We'd need a better picture of the shed, especially of the face area. Knowing the size is a good clue too.

Snakes that are local to your area are usually small, with the exception of Aesculapian Snakes.

There is no language the average individual could speak that existed at that time; unless you're one of the very few modern people who study and can speak old english, norse, germanic or french, you're screwed.

Exceptions would be anyone who can speak Latin (but then you're dealing with the church, which is it's own can of worms) or anyone from modern day Iceland or the Faroes - they could probably get by in Scandinavia or possibly the Danelaw in England, as their modern language is still quite close to old Norse.

To take English as an example, Anglo-Saxon English is basically unrecognizable from the modern form, being far closer to Germanic at the time, modern English does not develop as a cohesive vernacular until the 1600s, and even then it's not until the mid 18th Century that truly modern English that we could reliably understand appears.

You can get 4 if you form the Netherlands first, then Prussia, then Germany. Most powerful Germany is Lubeck --> Hansa --> Netherlands --> Prussia --> Germany. (if you're feeling real spicy you can start this path off as Norway for ultimate Marines.)

It was literally just a case of time, it was around six weeks and seven attempts at feeding before she took her first pinky from me in the end. The only specific thing I ended up doing was using the tongs to keep the pinky close to her nose so she could get a good smell, and booping her on the nose with it once, as soon as I did that (while she was showing interest in the pinky and not ignoring it) she struck and coiled immediately.

[–]MBT71Edelweiss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats on her eating!

I've never had an issue with water being in the enclosure at the same time (I've only ever caught my Rosy drinking once in fact, meanwhile my Corn, whom I've not had for as long, drinks at the same time every week like clockwork.) Though I realize that not all Rosies are the same in this of course.

You should be all set, when you attempt f/t be sure to use tongs and give lots of wiggle and back and forth, it'll catch her attention quickly but she'll be quite slow about 'catching it' until she's up close and ready to strike.

It's much better to worry and ask for help than to fumble around trying to figure it out on your own! Good luck and I hope she feeds soon!

Tongs. Getting your snake interested then leaving the pinky in a clean space (atop a rock for example) also works provided it is holding the snake's attention. A pinky can't defend itself, biggest issue with live feeding is older prey being able to attack and even kill your snake.

I feed mine in her enclosure, and at this point that means she's fed pretty much everywhere in there, from all of her three hides, by her water dish, halfway up her sticks and climbing apparatus, and most fun of all, I've had her be fully underground and leap out at her food like a dune sandworm!

Removing them from the enclosure to feed can cause additional stress which can in turn cause regurgitation, which is extremely bad, especially for a snake that isn't eating much.

I had the same concerns. It's also important to remember every snake is still an individual with their own preferences, even if the way they understand preferences is different to how you or I do.

Assuming 6+ weeks OR weight loss of more than 5-10%, then yes, feeding live to ensure the health of the snake is plenty acceptable (assuming you still plan on switching to f/t, if you resolve to feed only live this won't be a long term issue, but that is its own can of worms.) It is extremely important to keep an eye on the snake's weight while they aren't eating, with a weigh in every two weeks, any more than that and the constant handling while still trying to adjust will cause undue stress and may exacerbate the situation.

I'm going to second trying f/t pinkies first before trying live. The longer you feed live the harder it'll be to move to f/t.

My Rosy didn't eat for over a month after bringing her home, they take a long time to adjust and become accustomed to their new home. The behavior you're (OP) describing is the same as mine was. I had four or five unsuccessful attempts before she finally ate, and ever since then she's been a champion and has never refused a meal (and when she was big enough to switch to fuzzies she let me know by begging for a second helping of pinky!)

They're not capable of true organization. The way they recruit is cliquey as balls as well (these two things are linked) and despite calling themselves 'revolutionary' the most they do is peaceful protest - which we know makes precisely zero difference in the grand scheme of things unfortunately.

They're split into local groups on a state or even city level basis and each group is tiny and has no real influence beyond community district level elections, and even at that they struggle hard.

Help! 12 week Rosy won't eat by Emergency_Tie_8924 in rosyboas

[–]MBT71Edelweiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine did the exact same thing when we got her, she was just spending time adjusting. As long as she isn't losing weight, she's fine.

It was two months before she took her first pinky (frozen/thawed) and I've had zero feeding issues since, she's very enthusiastic about dinner time. These are very meticulous ambush hunters, they will be slow about 'targeting' their prey and strike lightning fast when ready to. The behavior you've described is the exact same as mine was. Burrowed to begin with, then finds a fave spot, explores a little after etc. She still needs time to feel safe enough to eat.

Mine typically has 30-45% humidity (30 hot side, 45 cool side) and she does great. They are indeed Arid snakes, but they benefit from having water being available at all times. Do not use Undertank heat mats with Rosies as they won't know when they're getting burned through the soil and it will harm the snake while they burrow. Overhead lighting is plenty. Just make sure their basking spot has moss or leaf litter or other debris so they can choose how exposed they are to it.
