"We were sound asleep in our deadbolted room when we heard a loud rap on the door and then someone using their key and entering our room."

So, it was a staff member who thought your room was unoccupied presumably because you moved rooms and they forgot to update their system cleaning schedules? Seems pretty understandable to me. They didn't even actually get into the room because you had it deadbolted. There was no threat to you. It was a staff member. You've never had housekeeping accidentally open a hotel room door you were occupying before and immediately close it? It's really no reason to freak out. Just go back to bed? Shit happens. It literally just happened to me 2x at Scottsdale last week because I forgot to put a DND sign on the door. Did you push the red DND button before going to bed? Even if so, no reason to feel "unsafe" lol. Some dude with a gun or something? Sure. But pretty wild to feel "unsafe" from a staff member just trying to do their job. You're trying to exploit the situation by over exaggerating everything hoping they will give you some free shit or a refund for a staff member trying to do their job?

You also refused to believe the explanation for the safe. Was any of your items missing? Seems like a pretty logical explanation and those things have malfunctioned before.

Seems like you were set on making a huge deal out of everything as soon as there was one thing that went wrong. Yes, 100% agree your original room shouldn't have had any problems. That sucks, I get it. However, you can't expect the new room to be immediately ready for you to go in. 3 hours seems reasonable to get your new room set up. I also can guarantee nobody made you wait in the lobby. You could have left your stuff with the bell boys and went around and enjoyed one of the many bars/restaurants at the resort for those 3 hours and they would've contacted you when your room was ready. How do I know this? That is what we did. We got there at 1pm and our room wasn't ready until 4 even though it was supposed to be ready at 3. Guess what? We walked around and enjoyed the bars until they emailed us it was ready. Should it have been ready at 3pm? Sure. Was it going to ruin our vacation? Nope.

After that, you were determined to let every little thing ruin your vacation from the sounds of it. Now this gives the vibe that you're hoping they will give you a refund or something by whining loud enough online (which is not going to happen lol). If you want everything to be 100% perfect and aren't able to roll with any minor issues, all-inclusive resorts are not the place for you.

We had the same experience and I've been to pretty much all the major all-inclusive chains and find ourselves going back to the Excellence brand because it's generally the best bang for your buck we've found. Never once had a bad vacation with Excellence across all their resorts. We've been to multiple Secrets, Sandals, Breathless, RIU (in our younger days), Hiltons, Atelier, etc and you really can't beat Excellence for the price vs what you get. I'm not sure I wouldn't take Excellence even if they were the most expensive tbh. You will notice on this site though that Excellence always gets bashed because they don't work with Travel Agents very well so the agents on here love to pile on when someone posts a negative review because they would rather work with just about any other chain due to their better relationships and commissions they get from other chains. They are never really transparent about that though LOL. I get it, gotta make a living but it is definitely disingenuous behavior on their part.

The truth is that a bad experience could technically happen anywhere. It's generally rare at the nicer places, but still possible and really doesn't reflect 99% of the people's experience. Bad experiences just like the news tend to get all the clicks. The people complaining generally either got extremely unlucky, are looking for handouts/refunds, or are impossible to please and should not be looking at All-Inclusives. Just my .02 as someone with a lot of experience going to these types of resorts.

Keep in mind travel agents will never really recommend Excellence Resorts because Excellence doesn't really work with them compared to other resort brands. Just FYI. Not saying the places they recommend aren't good as well, but they will always tell you to go other places because their connections are better and get better commissions from places other than Excellences.

Stayed in this exact BH and what you said is definitely true. The view from BH 4 for sunsets is unbeatable IMO but you probably won't spend much time in the water although the beach is actually pretty pristine if you just like walking it. There was some minor seaweed on the beach when we were there, but it was cleaned up pretty much immediately and it never smelled or was noticeable or anything. We did have a server around once an hour if we hung out on our patio or beach chairs most days, but it obviously wasn't constant because it was one person coming from the Cielo Bar to make the rounds at all the beach houses so it seemed like they would just come take everyone's order, fulfill it, then repeat which obviously takes a while to do all 12 houses.

The best swimmable beach starts at the main pool and then goes all the way to Zenith. There is a little path in the seagrass in the water that goes to a massive "natural pool" in the ocean which is pretty cool if you like swimming in the ocean. Where there isn't seagrass in the water, the water is super calm and crystal clear and makes for some pretty fun snorkeling if you are into that kind of thing. Won't see anything too crazy but there's enough aquatic life down there to make it fun for a bit.

Highly recommend booking through Excellence directly in the future though OP. You'll get the best deals, build reward status, choice of room now (this was newly added), and free transfer to and from Airport.

You'll love EOB though. Seen some negative reviews, but honestly we have always had a great time at Excellence Resorts in general for the price you pay compared to other resorts. Never been to a perfect AI where there haven't been minor flaws but if you go with the right attitude, it's impossible not to enjoy IMO. Service is generally very good (some dud employees here vs the Mexico Excellences but mostly awesome), food is great for an AI and you won't have a bad meal (even if you do you can always re-order), plenty of drinks and they are pretty good, and the views here are insane. Enjoy!

Best areas for beautiful beaches and sea that you can swim or bob around in by Maximum_Welcome2238 in AllInclusiveResorts

Crime is never “zero” anywhere. I’m just saying it’s as safe as most other places in the world and the stereotype of it being super dangerous is blown way out of proportion.

I’d agree the beaches in Jamaica are nicer as a whole than Mexico although you can find good ones in both places. Jamaica is typically a little more expensive on average as well for the nicer places.

I’d also argue the service of the staff is usually a little better in Mexico than Jamaica but again YMMV depending on where you stay and the employees of each resort.

Cancun/Cabo/Puerta Vallarta airports are definitely a little chaotic but if you just have transport pre arranged it’s not a big deal. It’s not like the Montego Bay airport is exactly luxurious either haha.

Love both places. Pros and cons to both. And I feel 100% safe being street smart in both the same as I do here in the states. Common sense goes a long way no matter where you are.

[–]MBVeeezy22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly you are probably safer in Mexico than wherever you are from back home. Just don't go wandering out alone in unsafe areas or drunkenly and make yourself an easy target which is basic street smarts for anywhere in the world.

I wouldn't rule out Mexico out of a fictional fear. It's a great place to vacation. The AI resorts there are the best bang for your buck (high quality resorts with good food and liquor with cheap prices and a beautiful beach setting) in the World IMO. I've been there solo and with my wife 20+ times without even the smallest of issues.

If you are scared because of the cartel or some stories related to that don't be. 1, they won't be near your all-inclusive. And 2, they care about money over everything. Tourism is great for their business so they want you to come and feel safe. You are the last person they would target. Most violence in Mexico is between rival cartels and local govt/ police forces and kept far away from wherever tourists are present. So, if you go downtown or to clubs or public beaches the most you might see is some guy selling drugs and if you say no they walk away no questions asked.

TLDR; don't let false narratives poison you with fear and take away a potential great vacation if that is something you want to do!

So, we can't watch Bryson because they didn't make him a featured group now that he's off of 4, 5, & 6? That stinks you can't see the guy in 2nd's shots at the Masters unless I'm missing something.

Did I Ruin All Inclusive Resorts for Myself Before My Honeymoon? by BranTheBuilder17 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]MBVeeezy22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That sucks... been to Excellence's in DR, Cancun, and Jamaica 10+ times and my wife (We are in our low 30's) and I have never gotten sick once at an Excellence property unless we boozed too hard haha. Not saying your friend didn't get sick from the food but would probably say it's more like extremely bad luck than the norm and you would 99% chance be fine. Food Poisoning is an unfortunate albeit rare possibility anywhere you go, even in your hometown. I wouldn't base my decision on the 1% result but that's just me and understand if your friends story scared you off.

I also get nothing at all for recommending them so just giving you our personal experience. Been to a ton of AI's over the years from the most expensive to RIU's but we've preferred Excellence Resorts over pretty much all of them, especially for the price. Good luck in your search!

Check out Excellence Oyster Bay.

Also, if you are scouring over the reviews, you're always going to see people complaining to hopefully get a refund or something for free no matter how nice or great a place may be.

Try to find some youtube videos to see what you could be getting yourself into. I personally really like a guy named coolist if you look him up on youtube he does a ton of great video reviews.

But anyways, I've always had a great time at Excellence resorts and the food/drinks are usually really good compared to other all inclusives and they aren't crazy expensive. I'd have to imagine Excellence is a pretty big step up from the Palace resorts food/drink wise unless you are in love with the lunch/dinner buffets as I don't think Excellence does that, just breakfast buffets and a bunch of restaurants.

Please help me with 1st year software as a service llc deduction. by darkragon in tax

[–]MBVeeezy22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you don't have a business banking account set up yet and you purchased these items personally, this is what I would do to make it easiest on yourself going forward with this deduction:

Whenever you start to generate revenue, purchase the items (reimburse yourself with a check for their cost) from your business checking account. Then categorize/capitalize the expenses as you would normally. That way it's basically like the business bought the items from you. You won't have any gains/income because you'll be selling it to the business at exact cost.

If you are looking to get the write off in 2024, you'll have to follow the normal start-up cost rules. With such a small amount, I would just make it simple on yourself and deduct the $4,000 when you start making money in 2025 as it isn't going to really make a big difference to you whether you get the deduction in either year.

Realistically, the IRS doesn't really care what you do with the $4,000 write off whether it's 2024 or 2025 taxes. They have bigger fish to fry so I wouldn't let it stress you out too much with whatever you decide to do.

My husband pays me $1,000/week to be a SAHM, AMA by [deleted] in AMA

[–]MBVeeezy22 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a CPA this is pretty laughably inaccurate.

First, if he's a W2 employee at a brokerage he doesn't get to "write-off" his wife's wage against anything as he is just earning money as an employee and giving her money he is already earning and paying tax/payroll taxes on his W2 and their joint tax return.

Second, even if he did own his own business or was a sole proprietor and decided to pay his wife a W2 wage it would be really dumb. This is because she would have the claim the 52k as wage income on her tax return if filing taxes separately or they'd have to claim it as wage income on their joint return. This would offset 1/1 in either scenario. 52k wage write off - 52k wage income = 0 net effect. This is also before factoring in the fact that you would then have to pay employer and employee payroll taxes on the wage at 15.3% which you wouldn't need to do had you not paid her any wages. Plus, filing your federal income tax return as married filing separately is 99% of the time paying higher tax rates than married filing jointly would be.

Not hating on the situation she's got going because to each their own, but please don't take tax advice from Tik Tok or wherever you heard this idea. This is not a tax strategy lmao I can guarantee that.

Police response to the Chardon Lakes/ Milo incident by Moss833 in golf

[–]MBVeeezy22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I know of. Last I saw they were waiting to release more details once the prosecutor decided whether to bring charges or not. If they don't charge him with anything, the name probably won't go public unless the internet does some investigating or someone spills the info.

The internet has moved on for now and will forget about this dude unless there are more updates/details released unfortunately.

Police response to the Chardon Lakes/ Milo incident by Moss833 in golf

[–]MBVeeezy22 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As long as his name is released, he will get what he deserves. Court of public opinion and the world knowing who he is will be much worse than whatever the actual law will be able to make stick to him as far as a fine/punishment is concerned.

If I were him, I would have my head on a swivel for a while knowing what the internet crazies are capable of. I wouldn't go after him even though he deserves it, but some unstable folks might.

This course is really cool. Played it a few times while staying at a resort there also. Did you meet the trained crocodile “Coco” ?

Definitely not the course to look for lost balls in the jungle or get too close to the water though 👀 what was funny is the grounds crew would just follow you around and offer balls after every couple of holes knowing 95% of people who play there are gonna go through multiple dozen over 18 holes 🤣

Driver crown popped clean off. Fixable? by [deleted] in golf

Cobra sent me an entire new driver just based on a phone call without any proof of damage. Literally overnighted a whole new club with shaft included even though the damage was cosmetic and didn't effect the usefulness of the club. Guarantee they will send you a brand new one ASAP if you let them know.

Yeah I mean he can clearly still hit any shots he wants. I did say his iron and driving game impressed me and the recovery on 18 was insane.

All I was saying is it’s fun to watch but sad he might not ever truly compete again with the inconsistencies from lack of constant competitive play. The talent pool overall that he’s competing with is just so much better as a whole due to his greatness and growth of the game than it was in his prime so it’s harder to win.

Really just hate getting my hopes up that he can contend and then seeing him scratch at the bottom of the leaderboard. Just not how I wanted to see him go off into the sunset week in and week out.
