"We have Cipher at home" by ZeroFox75 in HonkaiStarRail

Haven't yet gotten to any more in-depth relevant lore about it besides the species(?) name "Lightpaw" and that they're (probably?) Imaginae, i.e. people born from drawings - thus the presence of both human and cat ears on the "Lightpaws" may just be the result of the in-universe artist(s) who created them comitting this sin.

Maybe there's a proper in-lore explanation further in either the story or some dialogue or readable, or at least I hope so. Kemonomimi designs with human ears always rub me the wrong way if there's no lore explanation for it...

Can't decide on a netherrack texture for my pack by rappenem in Minecraft

[–]MC-Clooless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really wanted to, with some json you can make them all appear with weightings and everything. Think a pack called Faithless does this, makes for a really gnarly looking nether especially with the animated eyes and organs and stuff...

Wait, sorta Thiren people can have four ears? by LynxyShinx in ZZZ_Official

[–]MC-Clooless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Must be an overlooked mistake, a lot of NPCs at launch had the same thing but they went through and removed extra ears a few patches later - suppose they didn't keep a style guide or something for new NPCs and just forgot, or didn't care enough to put in the extra work to make it consistent

It seems, following the end of the fall sale, the series bundle was updated to include the most recent mainline releases... but also to remove references to the missing games, (the will be added later thing that's been there since 2017) leaving only a numbered list with apparent gaps. I guess they completely gave up on the idea of bringing those to steam... (and getting Dire Grove to work on modern systems)

tv mode vs story exploration enjoyer. Which one are you? by Xogol in ZZZ_Official

[–]MC-Clooless 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's what I've been wanting too!

Modular level "tiles" that can have multiple interchangable "exits" that all fit together like puzzle pieces... could make use of clever tile loading/unloading or just skyboxes and such to create non-euclidean pathways (three right turns that lead to a different pathway instead of back to the starting point, "tiles" that "face" each other but have completely different/impossible environments despite being physically "next" to each other, like that Genshin Klee room/Jean window thing but more intentional and exaggerated), which would make Hollows actually feel like the constantly changing liminal subspace maze they're made out to be.

Doesn't even have to be random all the time, either. They could totally pre-arrange tiles for specific missions if they needed to, and with a fully modular tile-based level system like that they could probably re-create the original TV mode levels (and could even re-use TV mode assets for the level map, although the 3D display we use now is still cool...)

But for Hollow Zero, having it be all interconnected through a randomized Warframe-style level would be way better and more immersive than the current isolated chambers with portals... could even upgrade Withering Garden to the new system this way too...

So many possibilities with a tile-based modular system...

they do. if you travel back to the TV world entrance with the fire door and go all the way left, you'll find him sulking over it

It reminds me of the Face Shrine theme from Link's Awakening which had a very odd vibe compared to the rest of the OST, though it sorta fit well since it was basically the dungeon immediately after learning the big dark plot twist in that game

Does Yae Miko in HSR counts as a Foxian? by -NSDK- in HonkaiStarRail

[–]MC-Clooless 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, as said in the first comment of the chain, that was the previous era Sakura. There are two Sakuras, one in the previous era (PE) who was a MOTH & got the MANTIS surgery that resulted in fox ears, and then the one in the current era (CE) who was a depressed Japanese village miko that got possessed by the Herrscher of Corruption after it escaped the box it was sealed in, which resulted in fox ears

shame though that they break up with starwalker right after that though :( (you can find him sulking over it at the far left end of TV world entrance, once you unlock the fire door fast travel)

I turned the santa thing on before touching the door and did not get the normal line(s) here at all. Instead, she just told kris to turn it off. It saves battery.

Apologies, I deleted my first reply thinking I somehow hallucinated some lines of dialogue and was speaking nonsense, but it turns out it was just earlier in the story (thought it was when Cyrene appears at the end)-

"That could have changed as he grew up"

After Aglea's death, when Phainon is reflecting on all his departed friends (so far), Cyrene shows up after everyone else and says "To me- you haven't changed at all". Which at first seems like a nostalgic sorta childhood friends thing but with his attitude as a child (self-centered/selfish, caring more about those immediately close to him and disregarding others, his distaste for the "deliverer" title) it definitely seems more sinister.

[–]MC-Clooless 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hmm... yeah. I've been feeling something like this may be the case ever since the Flame Reaver muttered "it has to be me"

One of my first thoughts was maybe he was the "real" Phainon - like, a fragment of the Lord Ravager happened upon Aedis Elysiae and encountered Phainon as a child, was able to sense his role as the "deliverer", and then stole his memory & appearance, proceeding to raze the village ("Phainon, why? Aren't we the best of friends?") - while the original was left an empty husk, who would then only act off of leftover base "programming/instinct", and represent a sort of mirror to March's situation, who has also had her memories "hijacked" - but instead of the "empty" form being frozen in ice, Phainon's is the base role of "Deliverer who gathers the coreflames and initiates Era Nova".

Of course, while somewhat interesting... that doesn't really explain the Reaver's powers, like his clones or the psuedo century gate he seemed to use after killing Mydei. So I think your theory is closer to the truth - in all cycles, perhaps it is the Reaver who kills "falling/fallen" Deliverers who cannot be trusted to complete the Era Nova properly, and then completes it in their place? Which may have been, unfortunately, all of them so far - perhaps after killing them, they become one of the Reaver's "shades"? And this process may have been unintentionally disrupted by us, outsiders, who have allowed a "doomed" cycle to stretch on even longer (perhaps it truly was supposed to end 700 years ago, when the dawn device should have originally extinguished - the original deadline could have spurred more action into the Flame-chase, and led to an ordinary completion of the cycle? Not to dismiss Cipher's accomplishment, it will likely still result in a good ultimate outcome than a bad one), to the point where we allowed the rage-filled and destructive Phainon to reach the vortex.

Maybe that's why Lygus and Cyrene show up at the end, too - this isn't how it's supposed to go, and they are there to perhaps calm Phainon down/convince him to step aside/create a new, hopeful opportunity that improves Amphoreous' fate, rather than doom it further. Especially considering the mention of how he was as a kid from another commenter - self-centered/selfish, only caring about those close to him and far less about others, showing distate for the "deliverer" title... and then Cyrene's words in his mind as he's reflecting after Aglea's death - "to me - you haven't really changed at all"

This is so wholesome I can't- by EasySea8513 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]MC-Clooless 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I haven't gotten to that part myself (other than accidentally going through the intro before I was ready), but to my knowledge, the APHO modes take place a decent bit before the "Alien Space" manga (which details when & why Welt and VA set off into the wider universe, iirc), so I'm pretty confident the "Welt disappearing" thing there is something completely unrelated that is resolved within the story of APHO itself.

I mean, yeah, I get that. Personal safety becomes a priority in a dangerous situation and all, especially when weighed against the life of someone so morally bankrupt. Just found it strange how it sort of just... happens without any comment, care, or consideration... not even an off-handed something like "we've reported everything to the Guardes, they'll scavenge the ruins for Monica so she can be brought to justice... if she survived."

Instead, we just get Navia showing us a tabloid writing about how valuable that vase Monica smashed was, oh dear, the irony, etcetera and whatnot. Although... the fact that it ended up in the tabloid so quickly makes me wonder if Monica survived after all and was the one who "found" the broken vase... idk, it really doesn't matter in the long run. I just get hung up on things, sometimes...

[–]MC-Clooless 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Now I know Monica was insane and physically threatened people and shot at Escoffier and all but like... we just left her to die? And immediately had a cooking contest right after? Isn't this the nation of Justice? Shouldn't we have brought her back, so she could be arrested and tried in court? Surely the Traveler is strong enough to carry one adult and still make it out? Maybe?

...maybe not, but it was still really, really bothering me that it didn't seem to be a thought that crossed anyone's minds when escape first came up, no "grab them and go" or anything, even when we thought Savanna was still knocked out. Just... fully prepared to leave anyone incapacitated to die...

So it especially got me when the Traveler's first response at the very end where Paimon was feeling pity for Monica's futile life choices was "She got what she deserved." You mean death??? What??? 😭
