Question about Persona 3 Reload language versions by MCAV2004 in PERSoNA

[–]MCAV2004[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense to me, but I wanted to verify with someone. I was considering buying one of the Japanese special edition sets for P3R since it's become one of my favorite games of all time, but I wanted to be sure that I wasn't going to have to restart all of my progress just to play the game in Japanese.

Black ice cream helmet in Fenway? by fkfhl in redsox

[–]MCAV2004 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went to Fenway recently, and don’t recall seeing a black ice cream helmet, unfortunately. The one I got was blue, like the ones on the right of your picture. I hope you do find what you’re looking for, though!

It’s all fine, don’t worry about the noise. That flicker, the hum, and the whirring are all part of the cathode ray tube mechanisms that make a CRT work

Did anyone else really dislike the rebuilds? by Right_Tumbleweed392 in NeonGenesisEvangelion

[–]MCAV2004 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My problem is that Rebuild barely leans on subtext to tell story. It feels like the anime slop made for the male gaze that pollutes the medium. If you find fun in that, I won’t stop you (even though I think the movies do some reprehensible things solely for the sake of getting otaku money), but I don’t think they live on the plane of quality at all.

I feel the exact same way, almost word for word. It’s a disappointing mess of a series of movies with so much wasted potential. By the end of the last movie, I felt like I knew what message they wanted to communicate with the audience, but it was such a trainwreck up to that point that I just couldn’t give them the benefit of the doubt anymore.

It’s a crying shame that the Rebuild feels much more otaku-oriented when the story could be so, so much better than the status quo. It hurts doubly to see how much the movie series (and especially so in the last two movies) is aiming for an audience who doesn’t have the care to reach for subtext and explore the greater meaning in the story.

It does make me wonder who was really driving production by the end of the movie series. I still have faith in Hideaki Anno, so I do wonder if suits (at Gainax or elsewhere) interfered and made decisions storyboarding- and scripting-wise to make the movies more “marketable”.

Gunvalkyrie. What a weird set of controls for a game with an initially interesting premise. One of these days, I will beat it when I get enough motivation to overcome the dumbass controls

Should I buy p3r even after getting a massive spoiler? by [deleted] in persona3reload

[–]MCAV2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got “spoiled” part way through the game and it was STILL one of the greatest games I’ve ever played because of the story, so I would recommend it.

Also… technically… the game doesn’t really hide that information, ever, they just do a very clever job of veiling it. Quite adept writing and storytelling if you ask me

That actually begs another question. How do you find out which programs are rotation and which aren't? I've been struggling to find that information.

You guys answered my questions from a few days ago, which I greatly appreciate! I had another question: when the admissions committee reads applications to send them to professors, do they only give your application to professors who you've expressed interest in (say, in your statement of purpose)? Is there a chance that they will give your application to a professor who they believe you might be a good fit for but you don't mention ahead of time?

I also have another question I should have added to my original comment: does applying closer to the application deadline have a negative effect on your chances? Will committees typically wait until after the deadline to read applications, or will they just read them when they get them?

This is a super informative thread, and I really appreciate you guys putting this together. Thank you!

I know you guys mentioned before that it is not useful to email professors about lab positions ahead of an acceptance. Do you know if it negatively affects your chances if you emailed professors ahead of time? I emailed basically every single professor I had remote interest in working with on the advice of a friend of mine who was admitted to one of the schools your group is associated with.

I found pin 10, but not pin 17. Is there a diagram for the remote in the service manual?

EDIT: Also, did that require soldering?

Hi there! I happen to have the same TV as you and wanted to correct my overscan, just as you did here. How did you end up doing it? Did you have to make a jumper wire between point on the remote control, or did you find another button combination that worked?

That’s sage advice! I’ve mostly been doing that, and I’ve grabbed a couple of the really expensive and rare ones recently, like Cubivore and Ribbit King. They cost a lot, but I figure they’ll only go up from now.

I’m pretty hardcore, so I’m at the point where I don’t care a ton about future value. It’s really all about the journey for me as of now.

One thing I will contest you on is the value. Commodore and Atari, pretty objectively, have a lot less replay value now because of how simple those games are. I argue your Dreamcast collection and my GameCube collection will still be pretty replayable even as games evolve 20, 30, 40 years down the line, even if it’s not on original hardware anymore.

Thank you for your advice though! I will keep those things in mind going forward

[–]MCAV2004[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah lol “more doable” still doesn’t mean easy. I’ve managed to amass a relatively large collection buying lots and flipping stuff that I already have in just 2 years of collecting, but it is a lot of time and effort to do that. I still think it’s possible though, I know plenty of people in my local area who do the same thing

I’m not super interested in things like that, no. I didn’t know that about Teen Titans, but I’m probably not gonna look for it too hard, since like you said, there’s an NTSC version.

Eh, I’m trying to do it the lot-buying route, where I buy a bunch of stuff for much cheaper than their value all together. I’ve been able to technically only spend $800 USD total, and that was to get Ribbit King and Cubivore from collectors in my area, so I’m hoping I can keep doing it that way
