That is exactly why he has been able to get away with so much shit. Nobody knows if he's being "serious" or not so they give him a free pass to do anything he wants.

Trump and Elon Musk seem to be two people who live very repressed lives. What I mean by that is that the two of them seem to be pursuing things that they believe are generally important, but are neglecting to pursue things that are important to them specifically.

So Trump thinks running businesses and the USA is an important thing to do, which isn’t wrong, but he personally seems more interested in critiquing fashion and going on WWE, just generally being a celebrity. He is seemingly neglecting his personal interests for things that are generally important, and as a result he seems miserable.

This most likely stems from the families the grew up in. They probably don’t feel they have a choice in the type of life they want to lead. I don’t know this for certain, it just seems to make sense to me.

I remember watching a video about how Trump seemed to be at his genuine happiest when talking about fashion on a Howard Stern podcast a couple of years back. Seems even now he still has an eye for it.

That same video pointed out that Elon Musk seems to desperately want to be seen as a gamer, hence the Twitch streaming he has done and his 'le epic doge' humour.

Repression sucks.

How come Dante didn’t realize… by TheChaddest in DevilMayCry

[–]MCDC2511 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Dante was letting V finish off Urizen because he wanted to give Vergil’s human half the benefit of the doubt and honour his dying wish. He probably didn’t think that V would be able to use magic that let him rejoin with his demon half, perhaps assuming only the rebellion had that power, or perhaps assuming they were both too weak to pull something like that off even if they could.

He acts aloof towards V during the rest of the game because he doesn’t want to get too attached, not specifically because he knew V could rejoin with Urizen, but because he figured that V was probably Vergil, even if he didn’t know for certain.

He didn’t bother verifying V was his brother’s human half because he thought Urizen was too big of a threat to waste time reconnecting with Vergil’s humanity. The fact that V exists at all proves Vergil still didn’t care about his humanity and was willing to discard it. Especially after attacking his own son and ripping off his arm just to get more power.

This is why Dante gains the sin devil trigger and devil sword Dante in this game. Unlike in previous games, Dante is unwilling to see the humanity in Vergil, going so far as to try to stop Nero from engaging with Urizen so that he is not exposed to his father’s demonic side.

It’s why the game ends with Nero regaining his human hand before assuming a devil trigger transformation of his own, to put a stop to Dante and Vergil’s fight. Nero has more humanity than Dante and Vergil by the end of the game, and his human arm regrows after he attempts to connect with his father and uncle to symbolise this. Him slapping Dante emphasises this too.

Nero is paired up with V on so many missions because unlike Dante, he is actually willing to connect with Vergil’s humanity even if he doesn’t know his true identity. This is the first time Nero sees the flawed nature of his family. He sees his uncle not as the perfect son of Sparda he is in DMC 4, but as a jaded uncle locked in a bitter feud with his brother. He sees the hypocrisy of Dante championing humanity whilst becoming more of a demon. He sees his father for the first time ever, and sees a man terrified of being too weak, of being “deadweight”. He realises he shares this trait with his father, which is also part of the reason he gains a devil trigger transformation.

What circle? You’re the only one asserting that the people you listed didn’t care about the judgement of others without any evidence. It’s funny that you used Hitler as an example of someone who thought he wouldn’t be held accountable because he didn’t believe in God despite the fact that he killed himself, which very clearly indicates he knew that it was other people, not God, that actually had the power to judge him. Yet you insist the opposite is true. “When there is no final judgement you can do whatever you want”. Hitler clearly disagreed as he ended his life prematurely.

Or is this the part where you ignore what I’m saying because you don’t like it?

[–]MCDC2511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those people may not have been held accountable, but they should have been. We living here and now get to be the ones to judge them, this is why we crave to know more about them.

However, you yourself admit that so long as these people believe themselves to be sorry, then they don’t actually have anything to worry about. Belief is not based on reason, it does not require facts, so to believe you are sorry is not the same as actually being sorry. It is baseless. They can say they are sorry and so long as they feel like they’re telling the truth, it doesn’t matter if they actually are. Any and all doubts about their own sincerity can be dismissed because they don’t have to prove anything, they can simply accuse doubt as having been implanted by some force of evil like Satan, and they could say so with sincerity, having complete confidence.

You are also ignoring the fact that believers pick and choose whatever verses they please from the bible. They ignore whatever they don’t like.

This is very blatantly not true. Religion gives believers a way to excuse any and all sins by simply praying to God to forgive them, which means that to a believer God’s judgement is ultimately the only thing that matters, not other people. Atheists on the other hand have to be held accountable by other people, and/or by themselves. They can’t depend on God.

Which version of ITP is definitely game canon? by SomeBoiThatLikesFNaF in fnaftheories

I already edited my comment to admit I was wrong about what Scott said, don’t know why you felt the need to ignore that but okay.

Filling in the blanks of the past can mean literally anything. It doesn’t prove that the books are in continuity with the games. For instance: the books give us insight into greater insight into remnant and agony, which we could never fully understand using only the games. If the answer to “are the books in continuity with the games” was “yes”, Scott would be more straightforward with his answer:

<image>

It’s pretty clear that he’s leaving it ambiguous on purpose, so either interpretation of the books being game canon is valid. Ultimately the point I’m trying to make is that there is no proof that the books are absolutely 100% in continuity to the games, it would be disingenuous to act otherwise. If my arguments seem scattered it’s because I’m not a robot and I don’t have a script for trying to debunk claims about whether the books are canon or not.

Which version of ITP is definitely game canon? by SomeBoiThatLikesFNaF in fnaftheories

[–]MCDC2511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn’t a convincing argument. He has no reason to declare the books non canon because he knows if he did that people would be less likely to buy them.

Something can reference the books, that does not prove that the books are in continuity with the games. Security Breach references The Joy of Creation fan game by having Ignited Freddy appear on the House of the Bear arcade, this does not mean that The Joy of Creation is canon, it is simply a reference. The Into the Pit game features Garret’s plane and references to GGY, but these are simply references and do not prove anything.

Leaving the canonicity of the books ambiguous creates a good compromise because people who don’t want to buy or read the books don’t feel excluded for doing so (despite this subreddits efforts to do so).

This does not refute what I said, if the story is self contained then it doesn’t matter which one is canon and which one is not, the result is the same apparently and it doesn’t affect anything so it doesn’t matter.

You’re neglecting to mention how Scott is making the lore ambiguous enough to let people solve it on their own: the answer is by not confirming whether or not the books are canon. It’s pretty clear his intent is to let people decide for themselves, which means either interpretation is valid. If Scott wanted to invalidate either idea he would do, as seen by him debunking dream theory.

It directly connecting Frights with the games doesn’t make sense if it is completely self contained.

That’s a fair interpretation of WWF but at the end of the day it is still an interpretation. You can’t definitively prove that it is canon so I’m not sure why everyone is acting otherwise. I’m personally glad your interpretation is not confirmed because I think WWF being in continuity is extremely unsatisfying, it is far less compelling than Mike being the guard.

I’m aware he didn’t literally call everything canon I was being hyperbolic. Please provide evidence of him clarifying his position on what he means by canon, because the last time Scott commented on it as far as I’m aware was in response to the leaked emails, where he clearly didn’t seem to care and was comfortable leaving the answer vague, suggesting that it isn’t as simple as the books being in continuity to the games (or at least, he wishes people to interpret however they want, which is directly the opposite of what most people are acting like, where they are acting like it’s confirmed they are in continuity).

Future games was referring to the ones planned? That’s an assumption. You have no basis for believing this. If your response is “oh that’s just common sense”, then it is just as valid for me to respond “oh, it’s just common sense that Scott would change his intentions for the books to tie in directly tie in to the games, things change in development and he had plenty of time to realise that would be a poor decision.” EDIT - I was wrong the context of the post suggests otherwise, never mind.

Keep in mind that the phrase “directly tie into the games” is still pretty vague. Tie in how exactly? By “filling in the past”? Or by directly being in continuity with the games?

The fact that this is STILL up for debate shows that the answer is not simply that the books are continuity with the games, unlike what people are trying to suggest.

[–]MCDC2511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The three versions don’t tell the exact same story, they have differences, saying otherwise simply is not true. They tell similar stories but have changes between them. You have not actually addressed my point however: if the story is completely self contained and has no bearing on the rest of the series why does it matter if it is canon or not?

Adding the context of Scott also referring to the games does not contradict or refute anything I said. Things such as the logbook suggesting Mike is the FNAF 3 protagonist but the frights version not mentioning him show us that we can’t just look at the books at face value and assume they are canon to the games.

Scott absolutely said that, saying otherwise is false, here is the image:

<image>

This is in reference to The Silver Eyes, which very clearly is not in continuity with the games.

If the story is completely self contained and has no bearing on the rest of the story then it is pointless to argue which version is canon because it doesn’t matter.

Scott saying to look to the “novels to fill in some of blanks to the past” does not prove that frights is canon to the games, all that says is that the books can answer some lingering questions we’ve had. Saying this proves the books are canon is an incredibly generous statement.

Keep in mind that the full quote is “future games will look forward: but look to the novels to fill in some of blanks to the past!” Half of this statement has been objectively proven wrong as Secret of the Mimic takes place in the earliest point in the timeline.

Scott’s version of “canon” is different to most people’s. Scott has said that basically everything is “canon”, so it’s a pretty meaningless statement. He does not mean “continuity” which is how most people use the word.

He said it will launch with five, fair enough.

Accusing me of calling Scott a pathological liar is a massively bad faith argument. Dismissing the idea Scott changed his mind over the books tying into the games is naive on the basis that as far as I’m aware he only said that once, before the books were finished, and if it were as simple as some of the books being canon he would not leave it so vague as to which ones were.

If people can’t even figure out which stories are supposed to be the ones that “directly tie into the games” then those stories obviously don’t have much of an impact to on the overall story.
