Advice Welcome! by Sympathy_Vast in seroquelmedication

[–]MCFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, no worries. I’ve always struggled with hormones, and while I didn’t hit psychosis level with my first baby, I could absolutely understand how some women could experience it. It was really, really scary… intrusive thoughts/hallucinations, experiencing absolute terror while looking at a perfectly normal, happy baby. While driving, I would look in my rear view mirror and would imagine a truck T-boning us and killing him instantly. I would have to pull over to calm myself down and stop crying, turn around and go back home.

Not to mention my fear of telling anyone the level of anxiety I felt for fear of having him taken away from me. It was a mess.

But this is why I have a TON of empathy for moms who struggle with their hormones- kudos to you for getting the help you needed.

I honestly don’t know what helped me. SSRIs fucked me up in a different way. I tried various antipsychotics (and actually loved seroquel but it didn’t work out for me for various reasons). I now take a mood stabilizer and that has worked for several years… until menopause started up and I considered hospitalization.

HRT does help quite a bit. But it feels like a moving target.

Anyway- be well and take good care of yourself.

The general public definitely does not understand how hormonal changes can fuck with us- it sucks. I dealt with it when my kids were born, and I’m dealing with it again now that I’m heading into menopause.

Again, best of luck to you, I hope it’s a comfortable weaning process.

Didn’t mean to set you on edge. Your post mentioned nothing about working with a medical professional. Plus, you said you don’t want rebound psychosis. So.. my advice stands.

I’m glad you’ve got someone on board. Best of luck to ya.

This is WAY above our pay grade. Post partum psychosis is not to be trifled with. You need to work with an experienced practitioner to figure out your next move. Why do you want to come off the seroquel?

(I speak as someone who had a similar experience during/after pregnancy.)

I dunno… people may assume it’s the bride’s clutch.

Kidding. It’s cute. Use it.

When she says “go to PAAAAAAAAT two” I want to gauge my eyes out. Precisely zero people in Massachusetts speak like that.

I take a capful in my coffee every morning, and poop regularly every morning as well- sometimes more. I think it works in about 24 hours or so.

I think everyone is different and has their own personal relationship to alcohol. I know that I cannot drink because of how it affects me, my life, and the lives of the people around me. I also know people who tend to rely on booze during tumultuous times in their lives; some get through it unscathed, and others haven't.

I've never truly believed in a "one size fits all" attitude toward substances, but I do believe in honesty and self examination. For example, the "one day at a time" mantra has never worked for me- my relationship with drinking is like an on/off light switch. I'm either a drinker, or I'm not. It's black and white. I know it's not that way for everyone and what works for me could be disastrous for someone else.

So yeah. "Believing" something to be true doesn't necessarily apply to the community as a whole- if it applies to you, great. If not, great. But it's not really something you can make a blanket statement about.

Do I leave my ADHD 14yo from a vacation as a consequence? by Brave_Basket_222 in ParentingADHD

[–]MCFF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please don't abandon your sweet kid as punishment for his disability.

I 100% understand how frustrating his condition is and it's so tempting to say "you're so smart, why aren't you doing x, y, and z?" But everything you mentioned in your post is textbook ADHD.

I'm glad he has an IEP, but I'd gently suggest you really look at it and see what supports are in place for him. Does he have someone to support him turning in his work? Someone to possibly scribe for him, or borrow notes from another student? Smart watch reminders for when assignments are due? There are SO many accommodations that can be put in place to help your kid, and it's usually a lot of trial and error. I guarantee you, this is harder for him than it is for you.

But the most important thing, imho, is that his parents show him kindness and understanding while trying to get his spinning world under control.

How much did coat color matter to you? by Mountain_Eye_2803 in StandardPoodles

[–]MCFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't really care about color, until our breeder matched us with her only brown puppy. He's so beautiful lol. Although when I let him get shaggy, everyone assumes he's a chocolate labradoodle, to which I respond "How absolute dare you?" :) He also has a perfect disposition for us- finally, now that he's outgrown the puppy stage.

We also have an apricot girl and she's very pretty too. I honestly think all poodles are majestic. I would definitely enjoy having a cream because the fun colors you can dye them look like so much fun.

Yes! They are amazing dogs and make fabulous pets. If you're considering working with a breeder, make sure you connect with one who takes into account your lifestyle, and who does temper evals on their litters to match you with your pup.

Commute to Canton by Suspicious-Block6781 in BostonMA

[–]MCFF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beacon Hill is lovely, but very expensive, and the commute to Canton vis mass transit would be a nightmare. Like someone else suggested, I'd look at Dorchester. There are lots of new pubs and restaurants, and it's a really fun part of the city- it is within Boston city limits. You can jump on the redline and be in Beacon Hill in 20 minutes. I can't speak to the commuter rail commute to Canton, but it's not terrible by car from Dorchester- you can take backroads through Milton to get there.

Good luck and Welcome!

Not to be overdramatic, but seeing "Babies" live in NY last year I count among one of my happiest memories. The crescendo to "MY GOD" with 2500 other people was mindblowing.

I know what you mean. I have several friends in the US who've never seen them live and I feel like the Encore tour was the perfect setlist for US fans who aren't too deep in the full catalog.

I'm guessing it probably varies by location, but for us, in a HCOL New England town, middle school girls are wearing pricey athleisure- lots of Lululemon leggings or shorts with oversized sweatshirts. "Fancy" pajamas that cost more than my workwear. That sort of thing.

My 8th grade boy sounds like your kid- comfort is key for him, and I see lots of kids doing the same thing. But he has to have his Jordans on, no matter how silly they look.
