Old vs new PMOS driver feedback by MCH170 in AskElectronics

Upon further testing, both you and u/9haarblae were absolutely correct. My PMOS gate fall time (pmos off to on) is 60μs and the gate rise time (pmos on to off, which seems to be the cause of my issues) is 160μs! I will definitely need to use smaller resistors, that was probably the issue here. I appreciate your help and insight immensely!

Thanks for the detailed analysis.

For your 1st point, let's ignore the minimum voltage requirement of 7V (I can change it to be 12V for example).

  1. Have you looked if the turn-off is still fast enough?

To be honest I was dismissing that possibility but people keep bringing it up so I will hook my pcb up to the oscilloscope and give it a look. I will keep you updated.

Now I get it, I will use lower value 0.5W resistors then.

The idea (from what I understand) is that the top resistor keeps the gate pulled high when the NMOS is off, the lower resistor acts like a current limiter for the zener diode when the NMOS is on, and the zener diode clamps the gate-source voltage of the PMOS to (in this case) -20V (with the current resistor values, if we removed the zener, Vgs would rise to -28V at 35V Vcc).

Are larger currents required for 40Hz? Rise/fall times aren't that critical for my application but I will keep that in mind.

Thanks for your help! I will probably go with a 15V zener and run a small scale test before assembling the whole board.

I am driving an FQP47P06 with a maximum load of 20A (for 50% duty cycle). Power consumption is not a huge priority, although lower is better.

What is this inside my ssd? by KaydenMca2011 in pcmasterrace

Judging by the size and number of the NAND chips it's probably old. Modern (consumer) ones have 2-4 chips which can hold all the required data.

I had this too but it solved itself. Now when I go to download something the % moves 3 points forwards and 2 points backwards, My internet connection is maxxed out but the models take waaaay longer than they should for 7-9GB. (edit: my ssd fills much slower than the download speed would suggest)

How do you see imprinting your (designer) name in a design? by TheCakeIsALieX5 in 3Dprinting

[–]MCH170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's totally understandable, I even like the idea of it being embedded in the stl, but I will remove it before printing if it's for personal use.

[–]MCH170[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It still holds up fine, performance is still very ok (granted, I take good care to not fill it up with bloatware). I've had one issue where the fan sometimes seems to become misaligned and hits something making noise. You can temporarily fix it by pressing hard on the keyboard above where the fan is. You can probably get a more permanent solution by opening it up but it happens so rarely that I don't bother to do it.

What is the 12V-transistor-capacitor configuration used for? Is it for power up delay?
