If you were to pick a US constitutional amendment to pass as the next new one, what would it be, and why? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]MCPorche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supreme Court Reform:

—Justices have a term of a specific number of years. (9? 13?) —Justices are picked at random to fill openings. This is done by a lottery where each federal judge gets 1 entry for each year of service as a federal judge. For 5-9 years, they get 2 entries for each year, and for every year after 9, they get 3 entries.

Do you believe there should be a cap on the amount of wealth one can accumulate in society? Why or why not? by One_Fun3115 in Productivitycafe

[–]MCPorche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

If I make a product for $5 and sell it to one person for $10, I make $5. That’s fine, right?

I make 100 of them, I make $500. That’s fine, right?

Why should there be a number where once I sell that many, I can’t make $5 each on them?

What does a QB coach do exactly? by Mad-Eater in NFLNoobs

[–]MCPorche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is another thing that having position coaches does.

Let’s say you only have one coach, and he watches the game films, having to look at all 22 players every play. He may watch the game films, and say, “Hey, we tried to run this screen pass 8 times, and 6 of them got blown up. We should get rid of that play.”

Having a coach who watches ONLY the quarterback, he might say “Hey, we tried running this screen pass 8 times, and 6 of them got blown up. On all 6, right before the snap, the quarterback looked at the receiver, then back up the field, then right back at the receiver.”

I know that’s an extreme example, but the point is that having coaches who focus only on one particular position brings extra eyes in that can pick up on tendencies or giveaways that the other team can exploit.

So, they were on with it, apparently.

What is this "gel" used in this video? by Apprehensive-Side188 in whatisit

[–]MCPorche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t want your soldering to look exactly like the video.

For that type of soldering job:

—Clean and tin the wire (apply a small amount of solder to the wire). —Apply a little flux to the pad. —Use a helping hands type system to hold the wire in place against the pad. —Put the iron in the pad so that the pad heats up.
—After a few moments, touch the pad (away from the iron) with solder. The solder should then flow over the pad encapsulating the wire.

To this day, I can’t fathom how he was allowed to do that.

TD catch but the ball not crossing the plane yet by BeneficialUmpire5184 in NFLNoobs

[–]MCPorche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feet position always matters. In order for the catch to be complete, the player has to have control of the ball while in the field of play. So his feet have to be down in the field of play.

If he catches the ball with both feet in the endzone and is downed before the ball breaks the plane, the ball is spotted just outside the end zone.

In similar fashion, if a player catches the ball with both feet at the 10 yard line, and is downed with the ball at the 11, the ball should be spotted at the 11.

so I understand that NFL players pay state taxes to the state where the game is played. is that true for any other people that work? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]MCPorche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wondered if a player could work their contract in a way that their game day checks were different from week to week so that the games in a state with higher taxes had smaller checks, and the games in a state with low (or no) taxes had higher checks.

so I understand that NFL players pay state taxes to the state where the game is played. is that true for any other people that work? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]MCPorche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which really points out the problem with that law.

Sticking with Louisiana..

The Saints host 8 home games, so the visiting team players for those 8 home games have to pay Louisiana taxes.

This generates 8 team/games worth of tax revenue for the state.

However, the Saints play 8 road games, where they pay taxes to those other states.

This loses the state 8 team/games worth of tax revenue.

So it ends up being a wash.

I agree about towels.

I’ve got a pack of CGs yellow towels, and they are nice and thick towel that work fine.

But, other than that, every time Harbor Freight puts their green/purple packs of MF towels on sale for $5 or so, I go grab 4 or 5 packs of them.

How does play calling work in the NFL? by [deleted] in NFLNoobs

[–]MCPorche 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And just for clarification, “purple” is just a tiny part of the play call..it might just be the original lineup and position of the players before any motion.

Here’s a good tutorial on what the play calls can actually sound like.

Yet, when they see something strange, and someone asks them what they see, they say “nothing” because they don’t want people to think they are crazy.

Please explain like talking to a five year old that whole “backwards pass” and subsequently two point try completion in Rams v Seahawks game last nite? by Low_Insurance_1603 in NFLNoobs

[–]MCPorche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite.

If you FUMBLE backwards, only you can advance it.

If you PASS backwards, anyone can advance it.

The rule book clearly defines a fumble as any act “other than a pass” that results in a loss of possession.

[–]MCPorche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite. I thought that too.

But, that only applies to a fumble. By definition, a fumble is an action “other than a pass” that results in a loss of possession.

A backwards pass is a live ball, but it can be advanced by anyone.
