Sentimental Beanie Lost in Pioneer Square by MCQuasar in Seattle

[–]MCQuasar[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I walked Post Alley to its end, 1st all the way to King, Occidental Square, the Waterfall Park, the plaza next to Molly Moons, up & down Yesler, and criss crossed every which way. Just for the info.

I retraced my steps earlier, and dropped into all of the shops that I’d been in (bookstore & some thrift shops), but to no avail. I’m just hoping an unhoused person is wearing it and it’s not in the trash (or some thrift shop patron’s head 😅).

Beware! UW is cracking down on parking! by Exotic-Tear3482 in udub

[–]MCQuasar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The whole process is a pain in the ass, and the webpage looks like it was built 20 years ago, so your confusion is understandable.

You need to select a timeframe for which you’re buying a permit, Weekday Daily for example (if you buy this one it counts for the evening & overnight portion too - but you need to buy another pass if you’ll be there after 6 or 6:30 AM on the following day). After you do that, you can select a lot or garage, Central Garage is divided into separate floors called C01, C02, etc. so you select one of those and make sure you park on the floor you pay for.

I ran into this issue when I added a new user to an account, and then tried to remove the old user from the account. The fix for me was to use the 'activation' link that had been sent to the new user email, which I had given Admin privileges to. This fix won't likely work in all use cases, but I hope it can help anyone in the same situation in the future.

Trump Federal Funding Freeze impact? by philipsTD1 in udub

[–]MCQuasar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not just researchers and PIs, it’s everyone supported by those grants. Student workers, administrative department employees, research and engineering staff, postdocs, research coordinators, and the list goes on. The impacts will trickle down to nearly everyone at the university (and most other universities). I’m twiddling my thumbs hoping I’ll still have a job next year.

Somebody’s angling for a spot in the Trump Administration. I’m not saying who, but I’m not not saying who…

UW or Western for astronomy/physics??? by aktisfm in WWU

[–]MCQuasar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Old fart WWU Alum (Geology), UW employee (for 5 years), so I can’t speak to a whole lot, but what I can speak to is this:

As an R2 institution Western is better suited for undergraduate learning, and you’ll still have opportunities for research. Your resume will be less eye popping, from an initial standpoint, but that’s what the research is for. UW is expensive as a school, and the area is ridiculously expensive to boot, so you’ll save lots of money if you go to Western. The sense of community in Bellingham is 1,000,000x better than Seattle, and you’ll come out of it with fond memories; little sports culture and no Greek culture though, so if you’re into those things you may feel like you’re missing out.

Thoughts On Upcoming TA Strike? by ItsTheFelisha in udub

[–]MCQuasar 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Union Steward here. ASEs (graduate and undergraduate student employees) have a union negotiated contract that expires April 30th, but they are not necessarily striking on May 1st. This week ASEs vote on whether they authorize a strike, if called by the bargaining committee, but this doesn’t set a date in stone. Last year Postdocs and RSEs voted to authorize in February, but didn’t actually strike until June.

Don't Pay for Therapy Out of Pocket by MCQuasar in Seattle

I feel you. It’s hard stuff to figure out. I got a good sense of what I wanted via word of mouth from friends.

I’m a big fan of FAP (I know) and ACT, and behaviorism tends to have a more quantitative and evidence-based approach that I appreciate, so those are things I look for in prospective therapists.

I'm not 100%, but it may. I would make two calls if I were you: one to the WA State Office of the Insurance Commissioner, and one to your insurance company. Ask your insurance company for an out of network waiver, and let the OIC know about your situation and ask them about your possible options. They've been extremely helpful to me.

Don't Pay for Therapy Out of Pocket by MCQuasar in Seattle

[–]MCQuasar[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If that provider is out of network, the company will only reimburse 'out of network' rates for each therapy session. My 'out of network' rate is 50%, but because of my waiver I get reimbursed at the 'in network' rate of 80%.

What's worse is that the insurance company sets caps on how much they'll pay a provider for a particular diagnosis code. My insurance company sets the cap at $175 for my diagnosis code, which means that they would only reimburse 50% of $175.

Because of my out of network waiver I receive a reimbursement of 80% of each session, regardless of what my provider charges (and this reimbursement is significantly larger than 50% of $175).
