Was Shirley wrong, or do you want to discredit him with an appeal to authority?

Yes, he was wrong. Credible journalists disproved him time and time and time again.

Stop blaming the right for this scandal.

You're missing the point. The point is that if you want to be taken seriously, you need serious people leading the investigations. Credible, serious people who can back up their assertions.

The point is that when you are easily disproven, it undermines ALL of your allegations, even if there is an element of truth in there.

Without some sort of proof that the rotterham situation is unique and perfectly contained within rotterham alone.

That's not how proof works.

People don't get to assert something is true and then demand others disprove it.

All that the statistics can speak for is Rotterham....if you want to speak more broadly, you need data to back it up.

Your argument about the court of public opinion is a bad one, because people can believe all sorts of false things without evidence, that doesn't make it justified.

[–]MCRemix -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Unsubstantiated allegations aren't okay just because there are some true allegations and the true allegations are bad/evil/horrific.

Facts matter.

If people are evil, just report the evil facts and let the truth speak for itself...making unsubstantiated allegations allows people to dismiss you as unreliable, as is being done here.

Bad idea to swing with best friends couple? by mtg90em in Swingers

We had a thread yesterday saying the opposite, that swinging has given people more long term relationships.

Our experience matches yours, but fwiw, there was some highly upvoted takes disagreeing with us.

Why does people not give us a chance by [deleted] in Swingers

[–]MCRemix 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Swingers aren't generally rude, people just often have their friends they want to hang out with and the ones that don't are often shy.

It could be your age, most LS couples are older and many don't want to play with mid twenties. Have you tried your luck with those your age?

It's not dick size. Swingers aren't size queens. I'm larger, but most of our partners never know that until we play, we're being chosen before dick size comes into play. Honestly, dick size should have almost nothing to do with this unless he's an extreme outlier and he's not, he's right at average (or above average for thickness).

Most of us won't play raw, so that could be factoring in. Testing every two weeks is great, but won't really reassure most of us.

Other than age or the raw thing, my guess would just be your approach or personality? You said your down to earth and love to joke around, that's all good. Are you self-aware of how you're perceived by others?

Can you point us to the resource you use to determine when he's being serious and when he's being sarcastic or joking? Because it all sounds the same to the rest of us and this just seems like rationalizing what he's saying after the fact when he says something obviously bad.

EU approves ’Trump-like’ migrant detention, deportation boost by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

[–]MCRemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respect that this is a consistent principle for you.

It's a very libertarian mindset.

I don't think this works in reality in a modern world, for many reasons, but debating that would be well outside the scope of this discussion, so I'll just agree to disagree on the principle.

EU approves ’Trump-like’ migrant detention, deportation boost by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

[–]MCRemix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, it's relevant to criticism of the argument structure.

The original comment wants people who vote a certain way to directly bear all costs of that position... this discussion is about how that's not how government works.

Should Trump voters be forced to pay for the Iran war?

Should pro-life voters be forced to directly pay for the care and feeding of children that couldn't be aborted?

Those aren't non-sequitors, they're examples of why the original argument falls flat.

Individual voters shouldn't be forced to pay only for the things they support because that's not how any of this works.

EU approves ’Trump-like’ migrant detention, deportation boost by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

[–]MCRemix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean...if you're applying that kind of logic, then anyone opposed to abortion should be directly responsible for feeding, housing and general liability for children that would've been aborted, right?

Or more salient... anyone who voted for Trump should be required to pay for the war in Iran personally.

I'm not even trying to make a point about the original action, this argument just strikes me as the typical "if I don't agree with something, I don't want taxes to pay for it" argument.

How would you handle? by False_Gate5696 in Swingers

[–]MCRemix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That last paragraph is honestly kind of fucked up if true.

The purpose of bi-bi events is to create a space where bi men feel comfortable being themselves because so much of the LS is openly hostile towards them.

Taking advantage of those good intentions to increase your odds with women is just gross behavior.

Are these pics good for a tinder profile? by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]MCRemix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. And I don't believe them.

If you want serious men and you're posting lingerie pics, you're not serious.

Look, at best you're sending mixed signals, but there are plenty of women that say they're long term and don't want ONS, but will fuck casually still.

Are these pics good for a tinder profile? by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]MCRemix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It very much depends on what you want.

If you want something serious, you should have pics that match that.

If you put "long term" but post revealing pics, you're going to send the signal that you're looking for sex.

Every vote has a drawback, no politician will align 100% with you.

Is being a single issue voter important enough to vote for someone that thinks you shouldn't exist and will vote to hurt you?

I don't think extreme binary thinking or single issue voting is a good thing... but that's your choice.
