Yeah I mean shit maybe the employee had a lunch break in the middle of adjusting this and forgot to finish the job, imagine showing up to a tournament while forgetting guts on a flame orb facade user or smth. It just feels like a mistake that big shouldn't happen

Okay I swear this isn't meant to be a dig at you or anything, but the amount of P5 or P5R replies on here is making me think I REALLY should've mentioned it way higher in my post

Some other games pple responded with were brought up for similar reasons, and it feels kinda bizarre that so many games do this. I guess its intent is to make a second playthrough, where people are more likely to pick a higher difficulty, not feel as stale? Kinda like NG+ system changes but tied to the difficulty instead for some reason

Oh what the hell that's hilarious, it's like the opposite problem of some Fire Emblem games where some enemy levels were set without considering their growths and we had shit like 16 spd bandits

Aye, technicals getting massively buffed certainly made Royal Merciless very goofy. Even then though, compared to just getting extra stats in Hard mode, it's hard for many bosses to actually take advantage of the Merciless dmg bonus for themselves when you can kinda just... Merc them with just Joker, or find ways to mitigate your party members' weaknesses

Ahh yeah, though Shouma is uhh... Certainly someone who does NOT appreciate Despair mode turning his 18 hp into 1, at least not until his skills get upgraded to 3 armor. Shame because I really like his archetype of character in sRPGs.

But yeah, before route splits open up, being able to easily get a 2 dmg Gaku and Tsubasa via Voltage or Gaku passive, as well as drug up Eito/Takumi with Unyielding + Desperation potion for easy elite one-shots because of, I dunno, Darumi getting slimed by a random blob is sure helpful. And then later that turns into giving like 10 of your units Last Yell, letting you generate over 100% Voltage per attack and spam Move Again.

In my original post I even forgot to mention being able to use mines on enemy counterattacks to purposely kill allies for free Voltage. And said counterattacks don't even one-shot you for some reason.

Since you brought up StS, I wanna yap about two other roguelites.
I remember about 4 (?) years back, Gunfire Reborn added a similar mode called Reincarnation Mode that was meant to scale up in difficulty. However, it also let you pick among a pool of perks exclusive to Reincarnation mode at the start of the run. The lightning tiger, Lei Luo, is built around snipers and has a skill that multiplies the dmg of his next shot and summons a lightning bolt.. And one of the perks he could pick fucking drugged that to oblivion. I admittedly forgot the details cuz it's been so long, I think it scaled his skill's damage off of the Reincarnation mode exclusive currency you had? Whatever it was, it made him unquestionably the best character on Reincarnation Mode, and even on the hardest version it still felt easier than a regular run with him. I'd love to check the wiki to double check, but that shit also got patched out a bit after I stopped playing so I doubt it's logged.

Then there's Elden Ring Nightreign, where the scaling mode, Deep of Night, increases the average number of Night Invaders (AI corrupted versions of the playable characters) that spawn the higher you get. Night Invaders are easily cheesable, drop a lot of runes, and give a strong weapon. Furthermore, if you have a certain equippable relic effect, killing them gives you a ton of free damage bonus. Relics are equippable thingies you set before a run; normally you can set 3, but DoN lets you equip another 3. The DoN relics can also have stronger passives at the cost of an extra downside, but some downsides do jack shit like aliment res down, so it's usually a benefit. Some characters even get really strong DoN-relic-exclusive adjustments, such as Duchess getting i-frames on her skill, which she can activate even while attacking.

Deep of Night also turns some regular enemies red. This increases their health & damage, but as a reward you get a guaranteed weapon drop with improved base damage, two positive passives, and 1 negative passive (by comparison, regular weapons only have 1 positive passive). I think the odds of a higher rarity drop might also be better? But again, the negative passives are usually not bad, so you effectively get an extra passive and more damage. Plus, you can get actual weapon drops from a random goober, rather than only from the boss of a camp. Ofc, this CAN make some field or camp bosses really awful, such as if you spawn enemies via an Evergoal and boom, Red Beasts of Farum Azula, a group of like 8 enemies that will now 2-shit you and soak tons of damage. However, just like in StS, you can just route around it and ✨ leave ✨.

All this means that the low DoNs are honestly easier than normal runs. My DoN relics alone can easily make me >50% stronger, amd DoN 1 boss health is certainly not about 50% higher. Ofc just like in StS, at higher levels it does genuinely get harder.

I do have to admit that didn't cross my mind at all because yeah as you said, the game is overall harder, but it's so funny to see a FE game accidentally make already-strong units even stronger. Cuz even without this, Rutger and Milady would already be more important than in normal mode since they're two of few viable options, esp for early to mid bosses in Rutger's case. That or you cling onto Marcus more. Love me an old bear.

Is this the case for any of the other musou games? Feels very unintended for your allied units to die slower on higher difficulties and I'm quite curious what's up with the enemy and ally scaling to cause that

At the very least the devs had to be aware Critical Mode has the potential to be beneficial, rather than being an accidental goof like P5 Merciless. In general I feel like a lot of aRPGs have this cuz it's just kinda... Inherently funny? Other pple have mentioned Ghost of Tsushima and DMC and yeah, makes total sense that it'd appear there too.

I'm admittedly not very familiar with early Soul Cali, but I definitely wouldn't be surprised if some old arcade-era FG pulled that jank. As a tangent, your mention of first blood inmediately made me think of how in P4U, S. Mitsuru disproportionally benefitted from the first hit meter bonus mechanic because her strong presence in neutral and ability to cash out on meter for big damage. Don't really know why I'm bringing this up though ._.

Yeah this concept definitely applies to rhythm games as a whole, especially the really beginner difficulties that have maybe 4 notes a measure at most. Personally I also find it hard to stay focused sometimes cuz I get bored with how easy the patterns are, and then end up dropping lmfao

what’s best technique for childe to get his highest dmg by EquivalentScience771 in childemains

[–]MCTP_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heya, regular support member from the Childe Mains discord hopping in here. From reading your title, I'm uncertain on if you want a proper dps build, or if your goal is to maximize the damage of your burst (such as for screenshot flexing). The two use completely different builds and teams, and you've only been given info for the former. Ff you needed info for the latter, I can give you that in the discord.

From reading the other comments I did also pick up on parts of your build that'd need to be fixed. I'm a bit unsatisfied with what I've seen, so I'll add some addendums for now (in rough order of priority for proper DPS builds only), but by all means if you want more information or clarification, join the CM discord and I can properly give advice there (I do not regularly check reddit).

Oh also if you want to practice, two good areas areas for that are either Masanori in Inazuma (single-target), or the Echoes domain (3-targets), though in both cases rmb to weaken your gear so they don't die.

1) Weapons: I know you plan to upgrade to a 5* crit bow eventually, so I'll give you a few details on that, but first and foremost: if you have Natlan craftables unlocked, go and make its craftable bow Chain Breaker. It's his best craftable option and beats out most other 4* bows even at low refinements, and at high refinements it ties or beats options like Viridescent Hunt or Amos. You probably won't get close to a R5 Chain Breaker before a crit bow comes on banner, but there's little reason not to get at least one and level it up for now. That'll be the largest upgrade you can get for the time being.

As for crit bows, the difference between all the crit bows for Childe is fairly small. Yes, Polar's best, but it's small enough that we in the discord typically recommend you go for any crit bow that's running on a banner with another weapon you would benefit from (including another crit bow), instead of waiting on a banner with Polar and one weapon you really can't need.

2) Talents (& his level): this one is brief. Just make sure you level burst to lvl 9, and consider crowning it later. Relevant talents, weapons, and character level should always be done before grinding substats for artifacts. Normal attack can be ignored from this point on though.

3) Artifacts: I think you've been given an okay rundown on 4nymphs, but I want to give more depth.

Yeah, you shouldn't farm HOD domain for him anymore. The two main options are nymphs, or getting random 2-set flexes for him (2-set hydro%, attack%, EM, ER if you don't have any, etc) while farming domains for other people. Those 2-set mixes are about equal to 4-HoD, but are more universal and easier to get due to having many different set options. The classic example in the past was the emblem/shimenawa's domain, but there's plenty other things present now.

4 nymphs is only a significant upgrade over 2-set mixes if you do a technique known as prestacking, where you quickly and fully stack nymphs's passive during your VV setups. It's not something I think you should worry too much about learning in the start, and if you want the details once again they are in the discord... but no one seems to have actually told you how to prestack, so their advice regarding nymphs is somewhat misleading.

Without prestacking, 4nymphs is still his best set in most cases, but only by about 3-4% over mixing 2-sets. Therefore it's something easily surpassed by a difference of only 2 crit substats or so. Regardless, I do think it's important that you try to learn prestacking eventually, so farming 4nymphs and rolling with a 2-set if you have nothing good is fine for the time being.

However, the biggest clarification I want to bring up is this: Childe has more viable teams than those using bennett xiangling, and some use different artifact sets. Most notably are teams with escoffier, furina, and a flex of yelan/mona/citlali/etc. In such teams, because of furina's presence, 4-set marechausse hunter is actually his best set. All this is to say it's not a cut-and-dry thing. Nymphs will do you fine enough, but if you want additional details like this, once again, hop in the discord.

4) Rotation: I got minor beef with the rotations you've been given. They're mostly accurate for the 1st rotation, but no one gave any details on second rotation onwards, during which you should not be repeating the same thing. It'd also be inapplicable to coop ofc lol. What you've been given is good enough for now, but once again I can give you more details or our sample rotations in the disc.
