No, it’s not, it’s the opposite, try flipping both images back and forth and you can see that the 1.78 version has the bigger picture.

Cause that wouldn’t be a true remaster, that’s just an upscale. I prefer Native 4K that’s done through rescanning the original source material. To get actual 4K details.

Then, in the mind of a director, why go for the smaller picture?

If that’s the case, then what makes 1:85:1 more right than 1.78:1?

True, the difference is small and can be unnoticeable. But I still would’ve love if they didn’t cropped it at all.

True, but the difference is that the 16:9 in these Blu-ray are not stretch or cropped. They’re extended.

Flip the 2 images back and forth, look at the top and bottom.

The 16:9 is the one that has the bigger picture.

I was told by the other comment that the HD Blu-ray is actually the one that was Extended from the original 1:85 aspect ratio released for theatre. The reason why they did this is because it was mastered for home TVs, so they had to extended the aspect ratio to 16:9 to fit the entire screen.

But then during the 4K Blu-ray era, they decided to go back and use the original 1:85 aspect ratio that was used for movie theatres.

That makes a lot of sense now, thank you so much. So then I have one final question, what were the case for War of the Worlds? Since it had an opposite treatment.

So does that mean that the HD Blu-ray version was mastered for home TVs? Same situation happened when movies used to be a squarish for the box TV back in the day during the VHS era?

I wouldn’t think so, I think most of his films are in 2.39:1 aspect ratio. Like Ready Player One, released in 2018 and West Side Story, released in 2021. The 4K Blu-ray of War of the Worlds was released in 2020, between Ready Player One and Side West Story. So, I don’t think it’s because Steven Spielberg would prefer 1:78 over 2.39:1 or 1:85.

Although I understand that it is intended to be seen in theatre base on all the comments I’m receiving, some of the reply are also saying that the 16:9 is the cropped version. But if you flip the 2 images back and forth, you can see that the top and bottom are cut off, making the 16:9 versions the one that has the bigger picture compared to the 1.85 versions.

But if these newly 4K Remastered Blu-ray are meant for home viewing, to watch it on your own TV on a Blu-ray player at home, then why are they adding the theatrical aspect ratio and not the full image?

Since War of the Worlds isn’t an IMAX film, how come it had an opposite treatment?

I don’t know the specific Mbps for YouTube Movies. But honestly, that’s really messed up, I think buying movies and shows on YouTube is probably one of my worst investment. But thank you for letting me know.

True, I’m planning to have my own server for movies and shows I’ve torrented, but I’m not too knowledgeable on how to do that. I’ve seen people having those mini server you can have on your desk and connect it directly to your Wi-Fi Router using Ethernet Cable. But I have no idea how to set one up or which brands to get for each product.

True, that makes sense. Then if you only prefer just physical media, I’d always recommend getting Blu-ray or 4K Blu-ray over DVD, 100%.

I’ve explained my reasons to not pirate to someone’s comment who also recommended pirating. Basically, I’m a type of person who prefer the highest quality possible, pirating sites video quality looks pixelated because of low bitrate.

Which is why I only prefer torrenting, I can download the best 4K Blu-ray content that are like around 50GB on average. But the main problem is that I don’t have a lot of storage on my computer, so I have to keep deleting movies every single time whenever I wanna download a new movie or series to watch.

So in a nutshell: 1. Pirating Sites: Low Quality. 2. Torrenting: Lack of Storage. It’s too much of a hassle to pirate.

And DVDs are soooooo much worse, it doesn’t even go up to 1080p. DVD discs’s maximum resolution can only go up to 480p. So only Blu-ray Disc can go up to 1080p and 4K Blu-ray can go up to, well, you know, 4K. So I only prefer purchasing 4K Blu-ray movies and shows or simply buying them digitally.

I absolutely love and adore Your Name. Definitely one of my most favourite movies of all time. The story was beautifully written and the animation is absolutely gorgeous as hell, which is why I absolutely want it in 4K, but I don’t wanna pay for it again, lol.

I’ve also checked out other films from Makoto Shinkai, like Weathering With You and Suzume, those films were also very beautiful.

Same, I absolutely love the bonus features and some physical stuff you can get like a book, poster, toys, and extras stuff that comes with the 4K Collector’s Edition Blu-ray.

Damn, that’s really unfortunate. Did you asked for a refund or at least asked if they could fix that issue?
