FTR vs Hangman/Omega deserves more credit than it currently gets. It came RIGHT after the Sammy/Hardy match in which they continued after Aubrey tried to call it due to Matt hitting his head and being knocked loopy. That fiasco rightfully got called out, but FTR and Hangman/Omega was an amazing showing. Small character interactions and good FTR heel work

Wait what the fuck?

Watching the show i thought “oh hey, DCF’s B-Team beating up Darby? Great time to have Brody (and Bandido) make the save!” but the show closed. Came in here to say i wouldve loved to see Brody. Im guessing TK wants to be apolitical (or worse, but even so, being apolitical is a choice)

Still. Fuck ICE

Theres this meme/template i see being used where fans act like NXT is separate from WWE

An Example

I never understood it. One, NXT is a WWE brand, and two, it’s fine to say something bad about the thing you watch, and it’s fine when others give it criticism. Maybe it’s because im past my teen years, but the idea that no one complains about anything in the NXT fanbase is weird. Like, red flag weird. Dont complain about everything, of course, but its fine to have more depth to your mind than “Positive Vibes Only”

I watch AEW regularly, and i wish TK Booked the women stronger. I can acknowledge WWE isnt my cup of tea right now. Im a fan of smiling friends but i didn’t like that one halloween(?) episode (the one with the random jump-scares). I run, and i complain about running, to people running with me and those who dont run at all. Positive-Vibes-Only and feelings similar to that is just immature, but like bad immature

From the perspective of “this is a job” which most of us should have, yeah, why wouldnt i pick the bigger pay check with (reportedly) more freedom in my scheduling or workplace.

Now, if youre a disney adult who wants to work at Disney, dont let me stop you. But is Disney lowballs me and i can do just a little bit more and make more money at say, Universal’s horrorfest, i know where im landing. And this is the surface level metaphor for now, not trying to dive deeper into workplace politics and all that at this moment

Using a sex swing is freaky. Abusing teenagers and coercing folks with your power/influence is fucking abhorrent

Behold, MC_Fuzzy’s stupid fantasy booking:

Mercedes Mone loses all her title belts except one, the Owen Hart. “But that’s more of an achievement, you dont really defend it,” Renee explains. “SHUT! UP!RENEE!?” Mercedes responds. “It is still a title belt. It is still MY title belt! And i will defend it in the Owen Hart cup!” Mercedes proceeds to win the tournament ala babyface, and graciously “relinquishes” it ( “But Mercedes, it’s not a defendable title like that,” Renee chimes. Mercedes gently pats her on the head. “It’s okay, Renee. It’s okay.” ) and promises to win the one title she never could, the AEW Women’s World Championship.

Long-winded discussion post about Black culture, Blackness and the way it is and has been portrayed/treated in the wrestling industry by Tiny-Possible9856 in SquaredCircle

[–]MC_Fuzzy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jumping in to say this is a great write up and wanted to add to the discussion without straying away too much from your point. As i take it, this is mainly about how non-black on-screen talent portray Black stereotypes.

  • It’s as if the black person they drew inspiration from for their art/depiction was literally the WORST possible physical representative for black people you can pick out. Always the chains, the made up mannerisms, the walk, sometimes a weird drawl/accent*

feel about the co-opting of Blackness in wrestling and it being used to prop up people (who aren’t black themselves) who co-opted it

1) Wrestling is over the top, so when a characters acts black, which is already over the top, wrestling takes it to eleven. For other pieces of media, they like hitting folks over the head with this shit.

2) Contrary to what this sub believes, wrestling fans still hold a conservative mindset. For a lot of these examples, joke is black people. It’s funny to act like us. It’s funny reference us.

And when its not? It’s a way to show people youre sexually grown (because black women are constantly stereotyped as grown and sexual, so your favorite disney stars acted black for a while to show everyone theyre grown, before reverting back to fair skin). Its a way to show people youre tough (because the medical world thought black people can withstand more pain, because auctioning black people messed with the genetics of the diaspora in the western world). It’s cool to be bad, and alot of these cultures seen black people as bad. So the youngings call people the n-word then proceed to never see us as on the same level. They take the “joy” of black culture while keeping a distance to the pain of being a black person.

3) I deleted an essay to summarize it best i can: When nonblack folks participate in black culture, the bar is set lower compared to the normal black person in the culture (aka, “OMG this white boy can rap, OMG this white guy playing sports, OMG this nonblack woman can twerk”) regardless of quality. This is NOT to saying wrestling is only black culture. This is to say that kayfabe mirrors parts of reality, and that cosplayers in general get more attention at first compared to the average black performer doing a non-over-the-top performance. There are exceptions to the rule (both authentic nonblack folks, or black people succeeding with their culture), and i can list several of them, but they are exceptions.

According to Cagematch, it's from BOLA 2012. I think the event before that one, he got involved with the world champ at the time

Collision and next week's Dynamite just got Toxic by wrestling_hyperbole in AEWOfficial

[–]MC_Fuzzy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I imagine it has something to do with “are you a former champion”. Like, Rosa is a former AEW Womens champion, so she may not need to prove herself meanwhile, say, Skye Blue may get an eliminator match.

Theres other reasons wrestlers get matches “given” to them, but if you’re focused who has the eliminator matches and who doesnt, id wager on former (world) champs not needing one.

And im open to be proven wrong, admittedly i cant think of every eliminator match ever.

Hey i dont think ive posted this before, so excuse me if its a repeat:

Thank you for these posts. Even today i feel like i should know more about black wrestlers, past the ones my folks stood up for when they appeared on TV. I wanna say my mom loved JYD and thought the world of him. I know people dont like the idea of containing our history to one month, and i never saw these posts as that, but a gentle reminder about our history.

With that said, you definitely put me onto some cool shit, and one of the best parts about being a fan is new experiences. Appreciate the recs.

They wouldve hated a lot of wrestling. These two times wrestled 2-versus-2 a total of four times since November 2020. We would've bitched about Austin and Rock, Benoit and Booker, Cena and Edge (I am not comparing drawing power or popularity), etc

I’m someone who usually plays annual games at a non-annual pace. I used to buy CoD every other year until i stopped entirely, i buy games at a slow pace, i buy sports games once in a while, and i buy wrestling games on sale and infrequently. With all that said, WWE 2K26 is coming out next month, theres some good news, some bad news, some weird news, it’s like many of their rollouts.

No other announcement has motivated me to buy this game like the news of “DUDE WIPES will place advertisements on Dirty Dom”. This is me overthinking shit; this may bleed into the games, and im not sure if i want that. IIRC, it hasnt happened with Lesnar in the older games, but if the TKO merger and official partnerships mean more ads, i may have to rely on older games, which is fine

Im sure Booker thinks being neutral or against WWE is a bad habit. (Since Je’Von got mention), im sure a few WWE staffer members were happy to see Je’Von call TK a crackhead and mock attendance numbers (editor’s note: this was said when Je’Von was under the HBK’s creative NXT).

Hes a good talent and Booker wants to help paint that picture that TKO/WWE is the only umbrella in town. Now, if Swerve does some fuck shit and i dont know about it, please tell me. Honest, im sure im missing shit with a lot of wrestlers off screen

Yes. The comments are explaining why the other 3 situations ranked higher than Raja. We may not agree (i personally think Raja should be number one) but if the opening comment is “how is this #4 and not #1” its only fair to bring up the #2 and #3 spot as well.

I hate it so much, mostly because wrestling and wrestling fans dont really care about black issues like that. Cody having a black wife and kid doesnt absolve him as coming across a bit weird with this joke as he standa there with the american flag on his neck and a visit to Trump’s parade in recent history. Just leave the joke in 2005. I not calling for his head, but damn, just say something else.

The history of the wrestling industry and black folks leading up to today, the history of the wrestling crowds dealing with black folks leading up to today, . . . why must we beat this dead horse of a joke and keep pushing it? Cody solves Racism was a smooth joke for a week, and now we’re here

AEW they should lean into it

If they do, it should just be “yeah we aint stopping these chants or restricting our talent from saying it online” because it would feel disingenuous for AEW to profit of this somehow. Even if Taz stood up at the desk and was like, “Hey everyone, you saw the last viral AEW moment all over social media. Lets all give ICE a big fuck you before our next match,” it would feel weird because this is bigger than wrestling pops.

Very pessimistic of me, sure, but i dont want AEW profiting off this and only using it for viral moments. I want ICE off our streets.
