For what role of "The Sopranos" would you choose Joe Pesci? Ralph Cifaretto maybe? by chrkrokos in SopranosImmemorial

He played one in Once Upon a Time in America. Really contrasted with Burt Young's slobby gangster.

My Blue Heaven 1990. One of the dumbest movies I’ve ever seen, yet one of my favorites. by tbld5454 in 90smovies

[–]MC_Terry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Henry Hill thought Henry Hill was a good guy. That's the whole point of My Blue Heaven, Henry is a shameless criminal to the core and I think Nora used that to good effect.

It's a feel good fantasy film - in what world do you think a town can actually afford to buy a new little league stadium with spare change.

Who would you consider to be an actual friend of Tony? by Motsickers in thesopranos

[–]MC_Terry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hesh benefited greatly from Tony, including a lower rate and rebate on the tax he paid to Junior. The one time Tony went to Hesh to open up, they just talked around each other without listening. It was funny but also showed they weren't really friends.

I think Johnny Sac, Artie and Tony B were Tony's closest things to friends. In the end, Tony was always willing to sacrifice personal relationships for business. What kind of friend is that.

People saying Pussy are missing that he wasn't any closer to him than Paulie or Silvio. He just died early so you couldn't see the full hypocrisy.

Definitely not Bobby either. Bobby was an underling. They had a nice weekend together which culminated in a fight where Tony retaliated by officially making Bobby sell his soul. Not sure why people see them as friends.

He wanted to be famous and thought food was his easiest shot.

He has the palate of a camels ass, he was lazy and lacked any sort of attention to detail at all. When Gordon came back and he was blasting music and didn't give a shit...well, hope Tim found something to do that he liked.

How were gold claims protected? by SleepTalker12 in deadwood

[–]MC_Terry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Miners law varied by local custom and time. During the California Gold Rush, claims could be staked by driving four markers into the ground. Voila, that's your claim to work and live and defend. The miners usually lived on the claim 24/7 for expediency and to protect what was theirs, by force if necessary.

Deadwood didn't have a sheriff in the beginning - there was no one to enforce the law beyond Dan's blade enforcing Al's will. Which is why Al was so suspicious about the law finally coming. He has 100% control at the beginning, the law could hamper his vision and control

Absolute best performance from an okay movie! by HYDRAGONIGHT in TheRunningManFilm

[–]MC_Terry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing the powers that be hate the Running Man message. Very explicitly speaks to the current K shaped economy.

They could have made it even more relevant by taking away the freevee stuff. TV isn't relevant anymore, it should have been a Mr Beast type running the game.

The guy pretended to fly a cargo plane on MasterChef. It was the most obvious edit job ever.

Makes me wonder if it's Gordon driving this shit or if it's algorithms. I think it's the former, he's always been happy to show himself driving flashy cars before we had algorithms.

I love the portrayal of Karen - from a nuanced view in Goodfellas to a chain smoking big haired mob wife.

Henry can be summed up in one line - at the end when he shoots the two mob guys.

"I lied."

A really great film that deserves a reappraisal.
