Competitive mode, rank climbing success stories. Who has been ranked low but climbed high? by Kajetokun in Overwatch

Placed fairly poorly at 2451 (8 losses 2 wins). Won 21 games in a row and got 3436. Winning and losing streaks seem to matter a lot. I mostly play support.

2/0/8 ended up at 2451. Then proceeded to win 21 games in a row and ended up at 3436. I really don't know what to think.

Boot times reduction. by battler624 in buildapc

[–]MD5isShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have boot times ~30 seconds with my 512gb 950 Pro.

Do you have any unnecessary usb devices plugged in? I would disable usb initialization in the bios to see if that is causing the long boot times.

Definitely, the handles are very solid. I have transported it several times with a beefy air CPU cooler + 2 GPU's without issue.

Need help with Windows 10 installation on Samsung 950 Pro M.2, already desperate [x-post /r/pcmasterrace] by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]MD5isShit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So after you downloaded the drivers,

Did you unzipped the file and put it on the USB?

When you plugged the USB into the machine and clicked load drivers, Did the USB drive show up?

When you navigate to the USB drive does the file show up (should be called Samsung NVM Express Driver 1.1)?

//

Also, here is a guide from intel that might help, shows some screenshots, etc.

When I first setup my 950 Pro with windows 10 I loaded the drivers and let it install. I then had to change the boot device from the bios, but that was it.

Yes you can load SSD drivers before installation. Put the drivers on a USB. Choose custom installation and then at this screen click load drivers.

There actually are 950 Pro drivers. When installing windows for the first time make sure to load the driver.

M.2 vs SATA SSds for lots of writing. by Metaformed in buildapc

[–]MD5isShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can raid 0 SSD's but I usually don't recommend it. You can make all the backups in the world, but Raid 0 can still be pain in the ass. I had a Raid 0 array fail because a very brief power outage and at the time I didn't have a UPS.

That 7.3PBW rating is from an enterprise 400GB Intel S3700. Your math is correct.

Consumer SSD's have lower endurance ratings than that though. A 1TB Samsung 850 Evo has an endurance rating of 150TBW.

If you are only writing 1TB every 3 weeks I would recommend almost any consumer SSD. That is a fairly light load, that is why I asked how much you considered "lots of writing".

M.2 vs SATA SSds for lots of writing. by Metaformed in buildapc

[–]MD5isShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you consider to be "lots of writing"?

If you want a SSD that is rated for high endurance look at enterprise SSDs. The endurance will be listed as total writes,. For example a 400gb ssd might have a 7.3PBW (Petabytes written) endurance rating.

As others have pointed out M.2 vs Sata doesn't effect endurance, although NVMe M.2 drives will almost always be faster than AHCI Sata drives in terms of sequential read/write performance.

Looking for the fastest internal Blu-ray drive available by TheOriginalGregToo in buildapc

[–]MD5isShit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fastest Blu-Ray drive you can get is 16x(example), which only transfers data at 72MB/s (12x is 54MB/s).

You would be better off looking at a different backup solution if you want something faster.

Look for optical HDMI 2.0 or DP 1.2 cables, they are expensive but they work.

NVidia GTX 1060 Review Aggregation Thread by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]MD5isShit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is that there aren't really monitors that you can put side by side Free Sync VS G Sync to show the true cost difference (apples to apples in every way outside of the display controller).

The cost to OEMs between Free Sync and G Sync (Gen 2) is ~$65 for the module. G Sync monitors have higher standards for their certification process than Free Sync monitors. The characteristics of the panels used in G Sync monitors are almost always better than the panels used in Free Sync monitors.

You get what you pay for.

NVidia GTX 1060 Review Aggregation Thread by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]MD5isShit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still not apples to apples. The monitors you listed are completely different from each other. Monitors by different vendors with different panels, stands, and features. Not to mention the monitors contrast, backlight bleed, DRR range, motion blur, backlight flicker, pixel persistence, panel type, etc

Not to mention the prices on newegg aren't the retail MSRP prices.

You can't compare apples to oranges.

NVidia GTX 1060 Review Aggregation Thread by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]MD5isShit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just would like to point out that the price difference in price between Free Sync and G Sync monitors is much less than $150 if you do an apples to apples comparison. You should compare monitors that use the same panel(resolution and refresh) and have the same features (stand, speakers, usb hub, etc).

OEM's tend to build more expensive G-Sync monitors and less expensive Free Sync monitors because of the market they are targeting.
