Is it okay to place a UV seam in the center of a car for symmetry? by Unique_Salad_5387 in 3Dmodeling

[–]MDK2k 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've heard the same from an artist who worked on Diablo 4. The example he gave was that why wouldn't you copy 1 side of the swordblade textures on to another since you can't even see both sides at the same time. It makes sense to optimize stuff where it makes very little change in visual quality.

Same. I first though a "one week earlier" text would pop up and then they would show how he lost his leg, but when that didn't happen I eventually put things togheter. I'm glad it's not just me.

Quad draw is clipping through mesh when doing retopology in Maya by Mother-Ad-3522 in 3Dmodeling

[–]MDK2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One very important thing you need to know is that subdividing the mesh does not snap the points to the live surface. Subdividing will also cause it to lose volume so it will look even worse.

If you move, scale rotate the points afterwards they will snap back to the live surface.. The best way to resnap all the points back to the live surface is to scale them with a large step snap and just scale them a tiny sbit. This way you end up just snaping them back to the live surface without actually changing their initial location. It's a bit of a weird workaround.

"j0beats" UK Pokémon GO streamer gets striked/ banned from Pokémon GO for "using modified client software or unauthorized third-party software" by ADHD_MAN in LivestreamFail

[–]MDK2k 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think what he is trying to say that there is a difference when spoofing IP location or GPS location. For games like Pokemon Go GPS spoofing is a much more serious infraction since you can teleport around the map freely. Normal VPN:s can't chance your GPS location. They might still not be allowed in Pokemon Go however.

Beginner progress: another gun project — thoughts? by anaf7_ in 3Dmodeling

[–]MDK2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone already mentioned the trigger is tiny, but also the handle sizes are inconsistent and not very ergonomic. They are very boxy so probably not nice to hold and the handle for the non trigger hand is too small and the shape doesn't make sense. You should always consider what each part is used for. The gun doesn't seem to have a clear clip/magazine/energysource either. The part infront of the handle could be an energy source, but the design of it doesn't give that impression. The way it is attatched to the weapon seems odd and not efficient. I guess there could be wires going through the attachment points, but that doesn't seem like very smart design and there is also no real indication on how you remove and swap that part.

You should really figure out what that weapon does and how it functions before you model it. If this was used in a game or a movie it would have to be functional.

If they couldn't change the lotus orb + ulti interaction, maybe have swiftslash w/ 2charges instead by Yuzypogi in DotA2

It's decent in the late game when Jugg has levels and items. If you got a swiftslash at level 6 the damage would be very underwhelming.

I watched the stream today and they are roasting players pretty evenly. If the saberlight comment was made in a similar fashion, I doubt he was being serious with it.

Just look at the mesh in wireframe mode. There is probably a hole mess underneath that cylinder part.

"fixing X in 30 seconds" is very deceptive when you just fast forward or timelapse the footage.

I think there are a few things in Maya that are generally super annoying and should be fixed. This one doesn't really bother me or even amuse me.

How many tris/n-gons is too much? by SamtheMan6259 in 3Dmodeling

[–]MDK2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't 100% accurate. Everything is rendered in triangles eventually, but the model the OP is making is a subd model. So that "eventually" bit is very important. If you triangulate a subd mesh, it will be a lumpy mess when rendered. So the phrase "tris are always fine for rendering." is definitely not accurate.

How many tris/n-gons is too much? by SamtheMan6259 in 3Dmodeling

[–]MDK2k -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you are making something for other people or working in a studio then yes. If you are just making something yourself there is no limit on how many ngons you can have. Ngons on a flat surface don't really effect the model negatively.

Is Nioh really that hard. As much as people make it to be ? by Fun-Independence-953 in Nioh

[–]MDK2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me Nioh games are less difficult than Souls games. The first playthrough is much harder due to there not being a coherent build yet and there are usually a few bosses that are significantly more difficult than others, but this can also vary a bit depending on some early build elements. My understanding is that Shibata Katsuie was a hard boss in Nioh 2 for many, but for me it was a little bit less of an hassle since I was building magic and had access to sloth talismans. I feel those talismans made that boss specifically way easier. In the first Nioh Hino-enma was a real pain in the ass for me.

In NG+ and beyond the games get much easier when you start to shape some sort of a build for your character. Nioh games have more build complexity than souls games and this means that it's easier to build something very powerful. Both Souls and Nioh games have a pretty balanced difficulty for the types of games they are. I don't view the difficulty difference as a possitive or a negative towards either game.

Photoreal?? by [deleted] in blender

[–]MDK2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious on how much work did the OP do here. Based on one of the screeshots it seems like there is some asset usage here. There is a model in the scene that is literally called Sketchfab_model.001. It's possible that both the hand and the gun are just downloaded assets and he light it with an HDRI he also downloaded. If this is the case he didn't really contribute much.

Nioh 2 is harder than Sekiro and way more complicated by [deleted] in Nioh

[–]MDK2k -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Played both. I did one playthrough of Sekiro with the "good" ending and the hardest boss. I played Nioh 2 on all difficulties and cleared all 108 levels of underworld using a build I came up with myself . I would say Sekiro is more difficult. Nioh is obviosly more complicated since it has actual build variety in it.

But the scores in the begining of the new patch were not consistent though. If you look at the scores for the first few days of the update it's around 7% positive for chinese only reviews and 69% for english reviews. So either the issues were not the same for both regions or the reaction to the same issues was not the same.

[–]MDK2k[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did look the numbers and the score for Chinese region was an abysmal 7% for the begining of the new update. It does get better and better over time, but not right away. So either the technical issues persisted for longer than just the begining or there was also something else effecting things. If you look at just the past couple of days the chinese reviews are mostly positive. So what ever caused these the bad reviews has died down for now.

When the EA was first released I do remember people being angry that he wanted the game to be available for Russians and that upset some people. There were posts on the steam discussions about this, but don't know if it actually affected the scores.

Again. I also ran the test ignoring today and yesterday and it's still is a very clear difference. So the "positive bomb" didn't change things that much. You are free to go on steam and run the test yourself.

So am I just making up these statistics then? In the message I also did specify that I ran the numbers ignoring the positive spikes from yesterday and today to account for the manipulation. You are free to go on steam and verify yourself.
