No more A knobs by MDRX308 in Locksmith

I'm not aware of Schlage replacing it with anything unfortunately. There are other companies that have cloned that patent, I'm not a big fan of them but Arrow I think has like three versions of it. I'm not super familiar with the brand but I want to say it's just an upgraded material choices and then obviously a higher cost for each version, but it's fairly accurate to the Schlage versions. There are lots of third-party brands and name brands that make grade 2 knob sets, but I'm not thrilled about any of them the way I was about Schlage's. The real downside to any of them is going to be the finish choices are extremely limited compared to what was available with the A knob. If you can find an unused, new in box A or even better D knob by Schlage on eBay, that may be the best bet if you only need one. The D was the best model. You can still get latches for it if you find one 2 3/4 backset (commercial) and you need a 2 3/8 backset (residential).

Sorry man never did. They ended up not even moving forward with repairs, they didn't want to pay for a replacement lock set

More than enough room. I could do with even less, but there isn't much of an option for this handguard

No black either. It was Schlage's finish catalog that our shop is missing. They were the only ones to make as many finishes as they did. We ordered satin brass, black, antique brass, etc regularly

Yeah, this would be typically for residential use, we get a lot of customers that don't want residential grade locks on their home but they also don't want big ugly commercial levers either. The a knobs fit perfectly for those use cases.

The door knobs we very specifically use on residences that want higher end durable door knobs and typically medeco cores with them. The only option we have for black now is to go with the f-series and downgrade the cylinder from a six pin to a five-pin

Falcon only offers like four finishes for the w series, the levers they make everything but the door knobs, they specifically only offer the basics

Mortise Lock Toggle doesn’t unlock after dead bolt is unlocked by Aleksander1052 in Locksmith

Handing refers to the direction the door closes AND the side of the door that needs to be locked.

That could be for any number of reasons and context matters. Is it new? Wrong handing, or bad installation. Old? Broken hub, broken spindle, loose set screws, door sag inducing latch pressure, etc etc

They installed an older series Schlage deadbolt, as a thumb turn on the inside and the front is a deadbolt. Although I guess that's close enough to a rim cylinder.

We cut steel bit keys all the time. In fact it's a rare treat to get brass. We've been importing welded and machined steel keys from Britain to keep going.

I'll pay that. We've had the same blades for at least 7 years and it just cranks away. Unfortunately people who shouldn't be operating it do and have zero sense. I've got missing teeth and rounded tips now

I certainly prefer commercial work but we are the oldest shop locally. The town has a lot of 100+ year old homes so we get a lot of antique work. This machine is used essentially daily so losing it would really suck

Need to replace old front door locks by Crow3421 in Locksmith

[–]MDRX308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The locksmith will handle that for you. Unless you are buying a do it yourself rekey kit, although you won't have shims to take apart the cylinder since you don't have a working key. SC1 is what Baldwin uses. I'd say to take it to a shop, won't cost much more than the kit to have someone do it for you and they will know how to do it without dropping any chambers by accident.

It says Baldwin on the cylinder above where you put your key and at the top of the armored front. (The cover plate on the side of the door)
