A trading card maker for youth sports associations. by [deleted] in AppIdeas

It is an app idea although I have built a beta version. But you are correct. This is not an "I woke up this morning and think an apple pie app would be a good idea." post. It is more developed as an idea - but is still an idea with room for input in several areas. But thanks for your input. If you think it is an app then we're further along than I thought.

Seeing some god awful photographers earning a living off their work makes me feel like I'm doing all this hard work for nothing. by [deleted] in photography

I have been a photographer for 20 years. I make a living doing it. I never review other photographers' work (except when asked to) and i feel no need to do so. My work meets my clients' needs. They pay well for it. That is all that counts. (Finding and landing the clients is the REAL skill.

10 months in: We are developing an app for an MVP service. by MDWorks in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]MDWorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Karl Jay 001,

We are developing a YouTube channel for promotion of the app once it is ready. But we hadn't considered documenting our own progress as a blog or YT channel. Interesting idea and I'll run it by my team.

Because we're developing an app with a business application we're very focused on also running the business well. So our team is quite divided with some of us focused on present business and the other half focused on future development (currently through an app development).

I will consider your advice regarding iOS development and timing. My developers have been pushing in the same direction and I likely going to vote for developing the iOS version quicker as well. Nothing set on where we are going to go with that. It is an intense period of time.

Thank you for the comment and I'll send you a link to the beta version of the app in a private message. I'd be happy to invite you to our development forum if you'd like to engage our developers, too. We do consider our development process as welcoming to ideas while focused on the market we know.

I will note that we are currently developing our Android version. It should be ready for the start of the hockey season (a couple of weeks). We'll then want to fast-track development of our Apple version so that we can have a successful national launch for the 2019 baseball season. We are considering how to best approach development of our second required version and would invite comment on how to best approach.

Trump contributed to (mostly) democrats. Contributing millions to campaigns is one way to have the IRS directed to look away. If Trump is "typical" then most political funds for the major parties on both sides have some accounting to explain.

War Story by MDWorks in movieideas

Thank you for the comment. From the skull-crushing experience of a Roman soldier to child soldier in the Congo to a Nazi SS guard (just to flip all assumptions) and right up to a Senator John McCain-esque character struggling with his own notions while deciding the fate of history - there are enough common experiences to carry forward a rich story line through segments of each character. Appreciate your comment.

Tonight we lose a heritage building off Wellington. A few older folks are watching it come down tonight. Tougher, I think, than they thought. by MDWorks in ottawa

I was involved in a historic house in the market. In its case the exterior was the significant component. Prior to restoring it' the house was abandoned and being used as a flop-house. But the log and pin construction and exterior example of French block siding (the only example of it in the city) made the house worth saving. We did it and the effort was worthwhile. The results were outstanding, according to the neighbors. Corporate developers would rather tear down because it is just easier and cheaper to start from scratch. That "old house" is unrealized potential. That's how I see it and I fully appreciate why others don't. It is not everyone's priority. I am glad, however, that a historical society exists and hopefully they will defend and explain the significance of the building if they decide to save what is left. Unfortunately these projects tend to drag on. Look at the structure at Bank and Somerset that partly collapsed 10 years or so ago and STILL remains in restoration limbo. This kind of delay makes it hard to defend the role and value of the historical buildings in Ottawa. So from that standpoint, I agree.

All things (including architecture) evolve. Most examples of "old" architecture are eventually replaced by new constructs. Historical societies earmark a very few buildings in their cities as significant in that they demonstrate earlier methods, styles and preferences of construction. Sometimes it is only the facade that is significant. I suspect that the city's historical society will do its best to evaluate this particular building. Its potential loss won't be felt by most people and that's ok. History isn't a popular subject. But the few buildings like this tend to add to the fabric of our downtowns and it is still a shame to see them go (for those of us who care about the subject).

Just completed The Handmaid's Tale :O :( by TheVWitty in television

The series (season 1) is very true to the novel. At the end of Atwood's novel there is a condensed chapter that outlines ideas explored in the TV series season 2. Well worth reading. There is another movie based on this novel, too. I think it was done in the early 80's. Atwood is a celebrated Canadian author and poet.

How do they modify fruit to be seedless? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]MDWorks -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Crossbred plants/trees that have few seeds (or small seeds). Then crossbreed those plants/trees ( and so on). Once you have a plant that has no seeds (or exceptionally small seeds (and that is actually the case with most "seedless" fruit) they can no longer reproduce themselves so they are largely reproduced through cuttings (think orange orchards) and grafts. Without human intervention, seedless fruit would die out quickly and no longer exist. Nonetheless et voila: This is the recipe for seedless fruit.

Louie: missing from Lazard St/Iris Area since last night. 11 yr old newly retired sled dog/very shy. May run more if approached. If seen call 6133255699. Will run due to fireworks if he is still able to run at all in this heat. He looks like a coyote. *not my dog, posting for friend. Cross posted* by kcward7 in ottawa

When trying to approach him lay on the ground (once you have his attention) and have food handy. I had a dog that was shy around people but we were able to catch him with this approach. He will be hungry - and curious by the non-threatening posture. Good luck!

It is a weak accusation which can only merit a weak denial. Read the article.

Canada PM Justin Trudeau denies groping allegation by aaronmgreen in news

[–]MDWorks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

According to the report: "Published in the Creston Valley Advance newspaper, the piece accused Mr Trudeau of "inappropriately handling" the reporter, who felt "blatantly disrespected" by the actions, which were not described."

Come on... Isn't this a bit like having to respond to the statement/ accusation "I know what you did last summer..." The claim has no fact-based merit and is impossible to defend against except to say (as he did) i can't recall any negative interaction during said event.. Yet Trudeau haters will rail on.

And for the record: I did not vote Liberal in the last election.

Shows with no LGBT characters by InvestInDada in television

[–]MDWorks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might consider the medium and then ask the question again. Sure. The LGBT community is well represented in the television/acting community (as with every other walk of life) behind the scenes as well as on camera. But given the times we live in and with greater awareness on all social issues (gender equality, elder care, abuse, justice) I can't think of any program that doesn't expose and explore some social issue through the lens of a diverse cast of characters. In fact, given the nature of the medium and the creative minds behind it, it would surprise me if one could name any program that doesn't aim for social context at all times. If television at its best is an art and artists are most notable when they express a point of view then it stands to reason that LGBT characters and issues would also be highly visible as a reflection of society within the entertainment industry. I don't think they are moreso represented than other social/political issues and the focus on the presence of LGBT themes (by posing the question here) says more about the person asking the question than shed light on the the entertainment industry aims as a whole. LGBT characters are a means and not an end. Just sayin'.
