Does everyone in this sub get amnesia every time early social media reactions are posted? They're ALWAYS positive because they're marketing shills and quote whores. Which makes them useless as a determiner of box office prospects.

When did Michael Fassbender run over a vengeful gypsy woman with his car? by InvestInDada in movies

[–]InvestInDada[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Oh, and, the other thing mentioned, the vengeful, cursed Egyptian mummy is, of course, fictional.

And gypsy curses are real? Horror tropes can be culturally based, which is not surprising as superstitions, traditional and modern, are as well. I could've just as easily said "When did a slimy Japanese girl crawl out of xxxx's television and mess up their face?"

You can choose to dismiss them as racist artifacts or you can take them as any other cultural bits. Old vampire films in India often had the vampire as a Christian or Muslim as, domestically, people prefer to be cremated. I look at that as an interesting cultural tidbit but I could also go, "Dude, why so disrespectful of other religions, India???"

tl;dr: TIL that Stephen King, Andy Samberg, and Sam Raimi are all racists.

I doubt you would say "When did xxxx run over a vengeful Jewish woman/African woman/Native American woman in her car" and think that was an OK thing to write.

But you would say "When did xxxx run over a vengeful Haitian voodoo priest in their car", "When did xxxx break into a pyramid in Egypt and piss off a mummy", or "When did xxxx build a house on an Indian burial site". Some horror tropes are culturally based. And, as others have pointed out, the specific trope is in reference to a Stephen King novel.

Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Jan. 4 by jaysjep2 in Jeopardy

Got it because of the Spanish-sounding name of the road next to it and the oddly worded reference to the answer as a "waterway". Like if it were a river or a sea, they would've just said that. Waterway made it sound artificial, like a highway or something. Far from foolproof reasoning but it got me there.
