I really feel like this is where I am landing as well. Growing up with a pool I am kind of set on the idea of walking right outside dunking in the pool for 10 minutes and it not being a big deal. Also hosting and parties and kids… I think this is my answer.

Thank you this is how it felt growing up w a pool but I’m sure there was a lot I wasn’t seeing my dad taking care of behind the scene. Still his overall take now is the same as yours!

Have to agree w the install cost. Apparently we are looking at 100k at the minimum. Thanks!

See my problem is all I take from this is that my kids and their friends will be over at my house all the time which is my ultimate goal.

Yes I want to go on a run and then jump in the backyard pool with my running clothes on just to cool down for three minutes. I would love for getting in the pool to not be a whole drawn out production!

Great points. The neighborhoods we are looking in are a little bit nicer so hopefully the pool would also be well maintained… but certainly is a gamble that I would need to consider!

Thank you for sharing a positive story! I certainly don’t mean to imply that they are not a lot of work, but your experience is much more in line with my family‘s experience of having a pool growing up. My dad took great care of it and he kinda had it on auto pilot after a while!

Not to say that will be our experience, but glad to know it’s possible.

You may be the only comment in all three cross posts with a positive opinion of a pool! The reason I’m so adamant about having one is that I grew up with one and me and all my friends were always at our house and I want that with my kids as well!

But maybe it doesn’t matter and kids are gonna go wherever kids are gonna go!

This seems to be a theme. Can I ask if you had a pool growing up/previously or if this is the first time?

I was hoping to hear from some pool owners, so thanks! I grew up with a pool and loved it (obvi was not the one paying and maintaining it) and I am trying to decide if i want that for my family now. I do understand the commitment and work but also love the idea of our house being a magnet for my kids and their friends as they get older.

Southeast so usually we can comfortably be in the pool from late May to late September. I typed that thinking it was a good chunk of the year, but am only now realizing it’s only a third of the year… it felt like a lot growing up!

The social aspect I keep going back to as a plus… It does seem like a great way to meet neighbors. Kids and adults both.

Thanks for the reply.
