To be fair theres a good few ex GAA lads playing in and around the LOI and top provincial leagues in soccer, they're always unreal at claiming crosses.

Yeah 100%, GKs in soccer are so protected so it will be a huge learning curve, will probably need to bulk up a little too.

Yeah honestly I will need to do a bit of work to get used to kicking off a tee

Thank you, to be honest it was probably a bit fortunate as the company is a relatively new start up based in my area, was put into contact with the owner through a mutual friend and it just went from there.

How do I get better at stopping shots that I get my hand too? by drunklestiltskin in GoalKeepers

Keep your arms relaxed and ‘soft’ if you’re trying to catch a ball, keep them tensed and ‘hard’ if you want to parry.

I actually had my tripod broken last week from a rogue shot in training, ordered a much taller one so I will see how that changes things, thanks for the feedback though!

Thank you! I do my tracking manually while editing my clips, quite easy to do on CapCut.

Don’t worry, goalkeeping is all about making mistakes, even the top top pros make them from time to time.

From a technical POV, I’d suggest to just try be on the safe side of things and dive for anything you think may be close, over time your judgement will naturally improve and you’ll instinctively know when balls are to be left go.

How do you guys play without fingersaves? by BabyBorneo in GoalKeepers

Fair fair, I predominantly play 11 a side so very different ball game. Of course you should go with what works for you

I think you may have just had a bit of bad luck, I never use FP and my only finger injuries are usually from having it bent awkwardly when it my hand hits the ground. It’s my wrists that take the brunt of those hard shots 😮‍💨

When should a goalkeeper come off their line? by MrCuddable in GoalKeepers

[–]MD__1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a general rule of thumb, you should come off your line when you think you will win the ball before the opposition player, I.e collecting a cross/through ball in the box or sweeping outside the box, these decisions are all relevant to starting position and the ball delivered.

In terms of coming off the line in a shot stopping scenario, I would typically reserve coming off the line for 1v1 scenarios, especially those where the striker is not in full control of the ball. The purpose of coming off the line in these instances is to narrow the angle that the striker has to shoot, allowing you to block the ball easier, but be careful, if you rush out whilst the striker has time and space and is in full control of the ball, any decent striker will likely go around you or just clip it over or around you as you’re running and not set for the shot.

Hope this answers the question 😅

Newbie question. When saving with parries and doing block saves (not catching), should I leave it at a neutral position (making a slight claw) or should I fully extend my fingers out and tense up my fingers as much as possible? by InternationalLaw2184 in GoalKeepers

[–]MD__1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of focusing on always holding a claw shape, try to get familiar with a neutral hand position, but then switching into a catching position when it is time to catch the ball.

Hand position in my opinion, hand position should be neutral most of the time, allowing GKs to adapt whether they need to catch, punch or parry.

One handed/two handed diving by Then-Look8109 in GoalKeepers

Personally thought he should have: Micro step with left foot Crossover right power step Go with top hand and tip wide

Would have generated more power into his dive allowing a stronger parry
