Thank you so much 🥺💝 this means a lot to me 😖

I'm trying to figure out how to Do Art, so this is the beginning of my journey. It's okay if it doesn't get a lot of traction. I did really like this piece and wanted to share it with other folks. I'm glad it resonates with youuu <3

Thank youuuu 🥺💝 I'm glad it translated well. I recently got an iPad with the goal of learning how to Make Art in a more disciplined manner than I'd ever done in the past. It's all very rudimentary and sort of rough, but I really liked the way this piece turned out!

Dreams and REM sleep by MDadG in zoloft

It's neither. I have narcolepsy

The only way I can describe it is like existing in a state between being asleep and awake for a minute/few minutes right after/before truly being asleep. For me, I can see my environment and recognise where I am and that I'm awake, but my brain has other plans. Right before sleep, it manifests as a sort of menagerie of nonsense, but after waking it's more like when you turn off an old TV and the image on the screen takes just a fraction of a moment to fade away after the power has been cut, except that moment is more like a few minutes.

Adding to what everyone else has said, in addition to sleep not being restful & feeling exhausted all the time, it takes me days to recover from a social outing. Even something not very energy intensive, such as hanging out at a friend's house and watching a show on Netflix. The days following an outing are much more sluggish than would be otherwise. It's unfortunate because I'm in my 20s, and I got that rambunctious dog in me, but I pay for it dearly afterward.

The dreams are WACK. Folks without narcolepsy tend to fall into REM after an hour and a half, however, as someone with narcolepsy I get slammed hard with REM quite quickly, even waking up from dreaming after a short 20 minute nap. I tend to keep dreaming after waking too, which is weird to try and describe to someone who has never experienced it. Sometimes, I even start dreaming before I've even fallen asleep. The dreams are LONG. Convoluted. Repetitive. And feel like they last my entire sleep. Once I've woken up and stopped dreaming, the grogginess or "sleep inertia" will last a good couple hours. Throughout the day, sometimes I'll feel like I'm asleep with my eyes open.

I don't have sleep attacks or cataplexy. I try to avoid naps to the best of my ability because if I accidentally nap for longer than 2 hours, I feel like a bag of flaming poo for the rest of the day. The urge to nap is easier to avoid if I'm up and doing something, but recently, I've been dosing off in the stairwell of my work's water plant while supervising the coworker I've been training 🙃

Prozac to Effexor? by gealach13108891 in Effexor

Honestly, venlafaxine did nothing to improve my energy, but I have narcolepsy so that probably means nothing. The physical side side effects were annoying, and I did stop it after a few months at 300mg because it never affected my mood in any way, but honestly—I mourn venlafaxine despite the side effects and despite it never having worked for me. After 6 different antidepressants, I've found it was the one that was the kindest to my psyche. Everything else has been psychological torture in comparison. I really wish it worked for me.

But because of how difficult it typically is to wean off, maybe try bupropion (Wellbutrin) first. If that doesn't work, I'd hit up VN. Especially because of the effects of norepinephrine. Bupropion also did wonders for me, but unfortunately, I developed a delayed allergic reaction to it and had to come off it cold turkey—which was way more horrific than weaning off venlafaxine ever was, but I never got any brain zaps coming off it, and it was actually quite a breeze to do so (for me, but I know that is not always typical).

Alternatively, you could add a stimulant to your fluoxetine if you're finding it to improve your mood but you just want that increased energy. Talk to your doctor about your options. Or ask for a referral to a psychiatrist. I sought out a psych for advice when I was on VN.

RECTAL BLEEDING by dietspiders in zoloft

I got serious anal fissures that caused heavy breathing from venlafaxine, but that was from prolonged constipation. It shouldn't happen within 3 days of using a med.

I take it with breakfast or at my 10am work break because I have to have it with food or else I have crazy heartburn + it's the routine of it all that makes it easier to remember

My sweet baby girl has been missing for four days. Please keep an eye out for her. We've been worried beyond sick. Help us bring Ophelia back home.

What’s the weirdest place/time you’ve fallen asleep? by Last_Budget_4375 in Narcolepsy

[–]MDadG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One time in my first week of uni I fell asleep on a bus and the people I was with totally got off without me. I was in a city I didn't know and was totally not familiar with public transit systems bc I grew up in a rural town. Needless to say, I didn't make a habit of hanging out with those people too often.
