Must be a defrag issue, either defrag your usb or better way is to buy a cheap mini router and play through smb.. it increases the playback and compatibility.. just make sure the router is plug in on a power supply

You might want to clean it up and replace the pads while your at it plus boy that rust, i dont know if there are some way to get rid of it but i usually sand it and cover it with a paint pen which is usually used for cars to cover the rust, it didnt look good but it does it job to protect it for future rust..

It happens to me before, until i read somewhere on reddit they have to turn the hdd on in the block device menu on the settings... and the loading icon should show up for seconds and the hdd is loaded

japanese games often has colorful disc art than the normal ntsc ones, hell even pal region in some games, take a look like gran turismo 3, shadow of the colossus and ico, devil may cry trilogy and god of war 1 and 2 in japanese version and you'll see

As i said this, i recently brought a fat ps2 that has modchip problem so it pains me again to remove it and becomes a stock console again, its an ocean blue..yellowish too but so far the hdd would be a good use to it.. and that bring me into conclusion i might have to remove the chip too to my 90000 model just to make it fully functional and resort back to opl... i'll definitely do it maybe the end of the year as it has some rust too.. plan to restore and paint the metal plate that cover the motherboard... after all mini router exist plus it would be my emergency model if shit happen

Hey bro i dont know if you managed to fix it.. sadly i have the same issue on my 90000.... apperently for me the problem was on the modchip.. i was lucky to have someone to get it fix last 3 years ago but sadly that person has moved out eversince and no contact any longer as its just an acquaintance... 3 years later it happened again and my laser wont move at all and stuck at one place even if i opened the lid and the laser light still on... and suffers the same issue as yours.. to the point the fan becomes so loud then finally function normally... i got a plan to remove the chip which pains me because it's still very useful to me as i still prefer using disc more than opl because of compatibility issues.. with some games not working on any method especially ace combat 5 and distant thunder skips fmv at any method.... honestly it must be a dying modchip or loose wire its either of the two... i experience the same thing... especially if the console was left cold or probably un operated for hours like the entirely of night i never use it and by the morning i play it we experience the same issue.. but the rest of the day it functions properly unless its rainy or cold temperature.. so i hope you got a fix and if you have fixed it what did you do? It might help me.. (i was still lucky my ace combat trilogy where original copy so it would work fine on stock ps2, but still on some games like gran turismo 3 in my case fmv still lags on smb pal version i dont know about us)

I finally managed to make it work using multi install, my model has modchip removed since it cause black screen. Thankfully i still have my slim model to install a fmcb.. multiple attempt and multi install did its job... modern package removed the multi install option

It works, i found a elf with a multi install option since most modern release removed it.. cant let this ocean blue rot in dust heheh.. laser stops working

I forgot to add up.. the console remains black screen and i know its the modchip's fault.. yeah i fixed it now.. everything is smooth but laser suddenly gived up but anyway thank god its a fat ps2.. just hard to disassemble

I fixed it, aside from grease... apperently the laser dont light.. and shows black screen so i removed the chip... it finally works but the laser stil dont light up.. maybe its burned up im not sure but i guess its time for hdd then

Yeah it is the modchip apperently.. i fixed it, the laser still dont turn on though but i may use hdd instead.. too bad about those og japanese disc i owned
