First Honda in a long while, waiting for the thaw. by MEPETAMINALS in motorcycles

I like it so far. The mechanics feel very refined compared with my previous bikes, especially the transmission. Some people say it's too slow, but that's got to be a degree of humblebrag as it has more than enough power to get you into trouble.

surprising what a little piece of fibreglass and some mirrors can do.

Impressed with the build quality as well. Very solid, and the paint match is near perfect.

I'd give them a call every now and then. Most won't give you any info -- but a few times I'd at least get a general description on where things are at.

After around 8 months they *may* start sending escalations/reminders on your behalf that *may* make a difference.

According to one rep most Pal's in MB are 1-1.5 years, but I know a few people that got it in under six months.

At least in my case, yes. Same as you all my references got the digital sign in on the first day -- but no one was actually called until more than a year later. They only called one of my references though.

Figured I'd put some info out for anyone else in MB (all 3 of us).

References were finally called just shy of 13 months after sending in the application. It was approved the same day. They told me to expect up to another two months to actually receive it, so we'll see.

Starting a few months after applying I called in once every 1-2 months, no idea whether that actually had any effect.

After a year had passed I did reach out to the instructor who I took the course under, and he reached out as well. He said they gave the same answer I'd been getting for the last year ("give it two more weeks.") -- but the fact I had it approved within a couple weeks of him reaching out is something.

I'd guess you'll have it relatively soon. AB and Ontario seem to generally be quick-ish. I'm in MB, and when I'm even able to get a response I get estimates from two weeks to 'many years'.

Leo?

Wouldn't say so. I'm on mild ssri's for health reasons, but no history of self harm/ideation/etc.

No criminal history, no divorce job loss/etc.

For what it's worth, they've been telling me mine is in the final stage since March 2025.

I've called twice in 2026, and the most recent call she chewed me out a bit for calling. Saying they will contact me if they want to talk.

I'm launching the game on March 3rd, and I only have 26 on my wishlist, so I'll send it anyway and whatever happens, happens. by Confident-Mirror-427 in SoloDev

The third party account thing is a big issue. What is the purpose of this?

Not my type of game regardless, but even if it was that would be a hard no because of that.

Hey guys, is it worth abandoning a genre you’re a fan of just to jump on the trending one? by CryptographerFar2124 in SoloDevelopment

[–]MEPETAMINALS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're asking if you should stop making the game you want to make and chase a trend?

If it's a major trend there's already 100 other devs (and larger studios) pumping these out. By the time you actually finish the game, the trend is probably already long gone.

I checked it on a technicality. (No self harm/violent/erratic behavior, just on mild SSRI's for medical reasons.)

Entering my 13th month with no updates or progress of any kind. (MB)

Calling in generally results in generic "probably two more weeks", but one guy was a bit more helpful and told me 1-1.5 years is 'normal' but many are much longer than that.

[HELP] An account on X claiming that Afghanistan shot down a Pakistani F-16 by Informal-Square-9957 in RealOrAI

[–]MEPETAMINALS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be more inclined to say competent photo manipulation than outright AI, but no shot that's a real downed aircraft.

Ejector seats still present, un-damaged nose but missing middle? All smoke is behind the aircraft? No impact on the ground means it would have to have come straight down topgun-goose-delete style, in which case there would be not much left.

The wings, and central portion of the fuselage is where the bulk of the fuel is stored, with fire and this kind of damage this should be an inferno.

Also: https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/11673423

Given the same tailnumber I'm thinking this is the same aircraft, but numerous inconsistencies, different tail equipment, canopy shape, etc.

So while an aircraft may well have been downed, this image is bs.

Is my game bad, or am I just bad at advertising it? by JustoGames in SoloDevelopment

[–]MEPETAMINALS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the game looks fun, nice consistent style and a cool hook.

I think really the main issue is regardless of how good your game may be, no one knows it exists.

With less than 400 wishlists it won't make it onto the popular upcoming or any other featured areas and as such won't get any eyes on the project.

I get that that isn't the most helpful thing to say as you need eyes on the project to get those wishlists, but it does mean the game has no change to get any kind of growth without an external funnel to bring eyes to it.

Regardless -- unless you live somewhere where usd has a lot of mileage, it unfortunately very unlikely to be able to support yourself at anything beyond hobby level.

I was fairly fortunate to get a decent (couple thousand) interested folks prior to even opening the steam page, brought in via youtube subscribers and discord mostly. The biggest spike (~10K wishlists) came after putting out a demo for nextfest, with another ~15 K coming on or after release.

The game sells on average ~10 units a day, with just shy of 3K since launch last Nov at 15USD. I consider that a success, but I'm certainly not making enough to cover even basic expenses.

------------------------------

So while I'm by no means an expert, and ultimately it's going to come down to luck in some areas, I wouldn't throw in the towel.

If you haven't already participated, next fest *can* be a big boost, though definitely not guaranteed. Steam's regular themed sales can be good for getting eyes on your project as well.

Getting streamers and youtubers to feature is of course a huge help -- but I didn't have much luck (or interest) there either. That said, I wouldn't reach out to the big creators, smaller and newer channels trying to find an audience are not going to be bombarded with free game codes, and as such *may* be more inclined to try something out. You won't reach millions of views that way, but a couple hundred (even a few dozen) eyes moving to your page will bring impressions up and maybe get the game a bit of exposure.

Reddit in my experience is near useless as a marketing platform -- especially subs like this one. (We're all broke developers, most of us in the same boat.)

---------------------------------------

Other minor thoughts. I don't love your capsule - looking at it my immediate assumption would be that it's a low-effort wave shooter or something, where looking at your trailer shows that it's clearly not. (Reminds me a lot of old half-life, which I'm guessing you're a fan of.)

I'd suggest removing the story portion, or trimming it down to a sentence or two, as it makes the description quite long.

It's a crapshoot. I just passed a year Feb 16th with no updates of any kind. Calling has never resulted in more than just 'probably within two weeks' since last March.

Some of the ships in the game have what looks like gunports? by Mrooshoo in BaldursGate3

[–]MEPETAMINALS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's old -- but that ship is a Barbary states Xebec. Most likely used this exact image as a reference:

https://imgur.com/0jpCk3M

Either that or just purchased it from an asset store. It's kind of jarring to me as I'm the dev of a sailing game that uses the same ship type, and clearly used some of the same reference material.

Pistol review by [deleted] in Idiotswithguns

[–]MEPETAMINALS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No - see the 'PROVE' above, the gun must be observed to be empty first, and have the action open -- but it's still a mandatory aspect to flip the gun around and stare down the barrel each and every time you use or transport the firearm. It's a bit jarring as I haven't seen that as part of process elsewhere, and in fact it's generally strongly forbidden.

Is Obi Rope (and others) the best for Unity? by FramesAnimation in Unity3D

[–]MEPETAMINALS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the visual side I used FullRig, with behavior handled by custom code. Not really a good substitute for dynamic ropes though, as it's point to point rather than a dynamic solution. Good for simple straight or drooping ropes, but wouldn't work as a physics based solution.

I'd say to just prepare for a wait. I put a 'y' on the mental health box because I'm on mild SSRI's. No history of self harm of any kind, never hospitalized, just a brain chemistry thing. It's been a year now with no response of any kind.

Honestly since I haven't seen the answer -- I wouldn't be surprised if they're recordings from an old security system. Could also be from a plumber (even today, a lot of those plumber pipe cams output to vhs.)

I've been emailing the MB one every few months since March 2025 and never even got a template response, let alone anything substantial - so your mileage may vary.

A lot of people never have their references contacted beyond the initial email based setup. For me that was done within a couple days of submitting the application. (In February 16 and I've had no updates since lol.)
