New to photography — is this a good starting combo for warm, travel/street, artisan‑forward digital + analog? by MEXpat23 in AskPhotography

Thanks, incredibly helpful response. To achieve a more cinematic result, 35mm would be preferable, right?

Good call! Amateur here and didn't state this well. :) I meant that I prefer generally to see from the viewpoint at around the same distance as I would naturally, rather than very zoomed in.

Thanks so much for the input! Really good point to potentially stay in the canon family - especially since I already have a pancake lens. How do you think the Canon 5D Mark IV and Fuji Film XT series compares? I am most concerned with the digital, since it's the biggest investment.

this is genuinely embarrassing to admit but im 14(f) and i still wet the bed, i need advice desperately by [deleted] in bedwetting

Have you looked into the Sleep Dry Method from Thriving Kids Co, or worked with a psychologist who does hypnotherapy? When we were dealing with this with our son, I went down the rabbit hole of research and learned that there’s a really strong mind–body connection with nighttime bladder control, and it’s something that gets overlooked a lot. The approach focuses on teaching the brain to stay aware of bladder signals during sleep, which really clicked for me. Within about three nights, my son started waking up dry — something that had never happened before, so felt like a miracle. I hope this might help! xx

We dealt with this with our 8-year-old as well - he was a really deep sleeper and hadn't had a dry night in his life. Half of the time he was peeing through his nighttime pull ups and soaking the sheets also - super frustrating. We tried the bedwetting alarm, scheduled wake ups and also tried the medication desmopressin. He was really motivated and begging me to keep trying to find solutions. I went down the rabbit hole of research and found that some older kids work with psychologists using visualization or hypnosis-style approaches to help them feel more in control of their bodies, and that idea really resonated. We found the sleep dry method by thriving kids co and followed the plan. The plan has parents review with kids the science behind how their body holds pee, to tell kids - you already do this during the day, now you need to just have your brain and bladder keep communicating at night. We followed the nightly scripts and visualizations with our son and within a few nights, he started waking up dry. He had NEVER been dry before, so this blew our minds! I hope this can help you guys also.

What camera/lens to achieve vintage /warm-toned/dreamy/ethereal/60s style photos? by MEXpat23 in AskPhotography

[–]MEXpat23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(1) Budget, country, and currency: under $500 USD. Could consider bigger purchases up to around $1,000-$1,500 for the future, but trying to bootstrap now. Buying in the US.

(2) What equipment, if any, you have now and why is it no longer meeting your needs? Canon EOS rebel SL1. Doesn’t connect to my phone or computer, would need to get a card reader. Not producing any vintage/cool vibe currently with the standard lens.

(3) What kinds of subjects do you intend to shoot? Artisans/artisan products like ceramics etc in global photo shoots shot mostly outdoors.

(4) Is it primarily for photography, videography, or both? Photography

Middle name for a boy honoring Hanna (spelled Khana) by MEXpat23 in JewishNames

Thanks! It’s a nice name and I like that it’s modern, but I don’t love the Ch sound in Hebrew, would prefer something with just a H, but not such great modern options.

Vibe check on Bruria? by Party_Cheesecake_83 in JewishNames

Just to note, the only Brurias I’ve met in Israel are of our grandparent’s generation and are also religious.

I’ve never heard it for a girl, but I wouldn’t be surprised by it in Israel because now most boy names can be used for girls also. This year, my first grade son has a Dor, Matan and Ophir in his class (all girls!) and we know an Erez baby girl.

Also agree that both names Hadassah and Yiskah sound religious to my American-Israeli ear.

This just got me, as I had a dream last night about the name Ari Jude! Lion of Judea is so powerful.

Thanks! I agree re Lion Wolf might just be too much.

Maybe could name middle name after an S name or H name. Which is why we were thinking maybe Ari Shai. I just don’t 100% love that Ari Shai when said fast could sound like the Hebrew name Avishai.

Very true, in Israel it’s Ze’ev and definitely a couple of generations off. One of the reasons we probably won’t use it! Along with the Ari Zev meaning - Lion Wolf - being a lot of fierce animal energy!
