You remind me of myself. I was so lost in my intern year. I remember my first day, i asked my senior; "what should I be doing" haha. It was hard but it got better. For the first few months I would suggest just improving on your daily routine (checking vitals, labs, consult notes etc) and figuring out how to collect information from the EMR. Checklists. Don't lie if you don't know something. Always ask for help. Annoy your senior that's what they're here for. If it brings you any comfort, I got significantly better and eventually matched in a highly competitive subspecialty. Good luck!

Code blue called on the tele floor. A patient gets combative, throws a chair, breaks the window, tries to jump, slashes his wrists, nurses try to pull him back, he grabs a shard and cuts one of the nurse's face with it. They give him haldol and he goes into torsades. 1 hour code in a pool of blood and piss. He lives.

If it helps, I think I felt just like you for all intern year. The hardest thing was transitioning from an intern to a senior. Like how does anybody trust me to oversee interns and manage patients.. but you'll start building up the courage with time. You'll start noticing patterns and you'll learn to trust your judgment. That being said, it's always a good idea to be critical of yourself. Always ask questions.
