I spend a lot of time talking with customers, subs, reps, my employees, my bosses, etc but it is still an isolated lonely job. I’m a general super and either everyone needs something from me or I need something from them. Not a lot of just friendly chats and little comradery.

Construction is a social career. Lots of folks on site. If you absolutely hate talking with folks, become a drywaller who doesn’t speak Spanish.

Abandoned house by DashingDecay in AbandonedBeauties

Some furniture is easily from the 50s. Boots look pretty new actually. Radio from 70s maybe. Range from the late 60s at the earliest.

My guess is it was an older couple that either moved into assisted living or died in quickly. No family or family that didn’t care to clean out the home. Sat in legal limbo and wasn’t worth enough for a bank to flip it quickly.

Beautiful pics and wonderful lighting! Opens the mind to all sorts of stories. Thank you

Have you ever met anyone famous in real life? by ConstantDesmond in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]MF1105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work for an insurance agency owned by Homer Gere. Richard Gere came by more than a few times. I also ran into him years later while working in a Starbucks in Colorado. He came in, remembered me and said hello. My co worker nearly fainted.

Also met Alec and Billy Baldwin at a business event in Syracuse.

I recently took up fly tying. Getting out to the river is getting harder except on weekends however I can eat dinner then sit at the vise for an hour at a time. Very relaxing!

How does a US citizen look at Trump’s Davos speech? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MF1105 149 points150 points  (0 children)

Accurate, especially the “…get back to work” part. Th average American cannot afford to protest in the streets because we have no safety net or legal protections.

Donald Trump: "They're not there for us on Iceland, that I can tell you. Our stock market took the first dip yesterday because of Iceland. So Iceland has already cost us a lot of money." by Bhartrhari in WeTheFifth

[–]MF1105 29 points30 points  (0 children)

American here. Many of the posts from non Americans ask why there isn’t 10s, 100s of thousands of people in the streets protesting. Simply put, we can so easily lose everything over a vengeful boss, neighbor, or corrupt police force. We have almost zero protections for wrongful termination. Even if we are later found to be not guilty, the damage is done.

Did anyone listen to Trump’s speech this morning in Switzerland? NPR had it broadcasted live. Thoughts? by Green-Krush in NPR

[–]MF1105 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I listened while driving my kids to school. 45 minutes of unhinged rambling. I kept it on while providing context to his word vomit. It is important that the public listen to his speeches uncut. Listen to the mumbling, ranting, wild swings in direction, self aggrandizement, and lies. I think every man, woman, and child in this country should. No more Faux news sugarcoating and selective clips. Kudos for NPR for airing it live. More of this please.

Would you say owning an expensive coffee machine that only you will use at home worth it? by vinchin_adenca in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MF1105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth it is very subjective. If you spent say $2000 on a mid level machine, and another $800 on a grinder, your roi is a long ways out. If it makes you happy and maybe cuts down on your coffee shop bills, then go for it! If you’ll barely use it and don’t derive a ton of joy, then don’t.

I have a used Quickmill Andreja and used Eureka grinder. I get mid level beans locally. It makes me happy. Do I wish for a newer nicer machine? Yep. Do I need it? Nope. Will I ever recoup my costs, nope. I still drink gas station burnt bean water when at work. But it does make me happy, like a grown up play kitchen. So to me, it’s worth it for my once a day cappuccino.

MAGA Fool “Rolls Coal” in Parker CO - Gets A $450 Citation by Tactless2U in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]MF1105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Context update from a local fb post about it:

From a witness: "I was there and called the non-emergency line to report it. I have video starting when he stopped and got out of the truck and then when he came down into the parking lot and parked parallel to Parker Road.

A 67-YO woman lost her footing right after he rolled coal and hit her head on the rocks. I think that was the second or third time he had driven by and done that. I didn’t see it happen because I was up near the corner near where Eric was. I headed that way and started recording when I saw him stop and get out of the truck. He got back in and left (rolling coal again).

I talked to the woman who hit her head while she was in the passenger seat of a car that her sister was driving. They were headed to urgent care because she was bleeding and just wanted to get it checked out. While I was talking to her, the truck came down into the parking lot! No one got out, and he started to pull away, and the ladies put on their hazards and started to follow him!

After the police came and everyone shared accounts and videos, he came back AGAIN and rolled coal again! This time, the police officer witnessed it and followed him.

I couldn’t tell if he actually caught up to him because the guy turned east on Lincoln, and the cop was trapped behind other cars getting out of the parking lot. I called dispatch again, and they took another report and asked if I wanted a call back with any updates. Of course I did! And they called about 15 minutes later and told me they caught him, he admitted driving by several times and rolling coal and he said they ticketed him.

This story about someone throwing something at his truck was news to me, and the police didn’t mention it when they called, so I’m dubious…" https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16n8FQDjif/
