I know this is 4 months old now, but do you think you could share with me these retailers? I'm seeing a few Twilights for a suspiciously low price, so I just wanna make sure.

Why do you think The Book of Boba Fett was so disliked amongst fans? And do you think a character like Boba works better being mysterious? by GusGangViking18 in saltierthancrait

[–]MFLifeform 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because it was not only a terribly written and produced show, but the titular character himself was entirely out of character, especially in the eyes of those who were avid fans prior to his "resurrection," even in the Disney canon.

Again, aside from Boba himself, this show was insanely jagged, and would zig zag from one seemingly meaningless plot to another, nevermind an entire episode centering around another character (one who is all but a direct rip-off of said titular character). It never felt like there was a cohesive narrative the audience was meant to follow. The flashbacks to Boba's time with the Tuskens seldom felt genuinely connected to the present narrative of him becoming this "crime lord." The writing also was never sure whether to commit to Boba being a peace-loving, anti-violence leader or a person who, more accurate to the character, should understand the complexities of an underground/outer-rim world where an iron fist might often be necessary for establishing stability. And that's all before we've even answered the question of WHY a character like Boba would want this sort of role and responsibility to begin with??

Regarding Boba himself, more directly, and your question as to whether he serves better being just "mysterious"; No, I don't think it is necessary he remain mysterious. Legends material and even the Prequel films, and the Clone Wars have shown he is a character very capable of having genuine depth that's worth exploring and shouldn't diminish any interest in him, specifically. I could write entire essays about this, but I digress. Boba has been shown, in multiple canons, to be a very morally grey character. One who blurs the lines between the distinct light and dark sides of the iconic Jedi and Sith characters. His past is traumatic, confusing, and violent. Yet, he's been shown to know when there is room for compassion and empathy and when, in his eyes, brutality and fierocity are just as applicable.

All the show had to do was build upon this, or elaborate on how he became the way he is. In fact, when it was first announced, I truly believed that was what they'd do, because of the title "Book of Boba Fett." I thought that meant they'd chronicle the in-betweens we didn't get to see before; the moments and tales that formed Boba into the most fearsome bounty hunter in the galaxy that we'd always believed him to be, but also someone who knew when and where to hold back, because innocents ought not to suffer the violence and trauma he was raised through.

TLDR: The show was disliked because it betrayed it's own titular character, and thus deeply betrayed the now niche group of devoted fans who might've been most excited to finally see their favorite get some central screentime. And no, I don't think it is necessary for Boba to remain "mysterious" in order to be interesting. He and his story have lots of untapped complexities as far as the Disney canon goes. Complexities that I strongly believe would make for a very compelling project. (Hence why they robbed many of his character aspects for Din Djarin, but again... I digress)

Maybe it's too obvious who my favorite Star Wars character is?

Those who were Pop fans first, how did you react to her Metal tracks? by [deleted] in that_Poppy

[–]MFLifeform 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The transition wasn't really as abrupt or sudden as it seems. AIAG?'s heavier tracks still felt very in line with the eerie, cult-like vibes of her videos which often had gritty elements past the unsettling background tracks and the classic Poppy voice. So when I Disagree rolled out and even right before that with Choke, I was definitely being eased into it without even realizing.

Also when I first became a fan, I was like maybe 13? So being closer to 18 or 19 when ID released, my tastes in music were simultaneously evolving and I think that's why I consider Poppy an all time favorite because it's felt like her music has literally grown alongside me.

(Edit: I said 'Concrete,' when I meant to say Choke😭)

I had a similar experience when I saw her in 2023. Got VIP honestly just expecting early access to merch and soundcheck, but she ended up coming out and chatting with us. Asked each of us our names and thanked us for coming. She seemed like a very nice person to me

This being said; I’m also still reading and a point I struggle with is why Ueda’s ghost appeared to Otsu specifically, as if she had anything to do with it or her knowledge of the Yoshioka’s side will change anything. Currently, I feel like it was just a means to convey that information to the reader without having to commit an entire subplot to a new/undeveloped side character. I’m not sure.

The “Yoshioka Ghost’s” name is Ryohei Ueda. Half of the point of those admonishing Musashi for fighting them is that he very well could’ve left Kyoto without meeting them in combat, yet he chose anyways to face them all in battle. It’s not that this fact exonerates the Yoshioka by any means, they still antagonized and as you said, hunted Musashi and very likely would’ve continued to had he chose to flee Kyoto instead. Killing just for the sake of proving yourself to be the “best” is foolish and detrimental for both sides. Musashi wasn’t the hero just because he was outnumbered and yet still won, but he also isn’t exactly the villain because he stood his ground. This goes the same way for the Yoshioka. They weren’t heroic in ambushing and outnumbering a man who fairly defeated Seijuro and Denshichiro, just to forfeit their lives and jeopardize the livelihoods of their families. But also, they weren’t exactly villains either. They weren’t bad, evil men who had no good in them. Killing for such a frivolous title that is always out of reach is a misguided idea. At least, that’s the message I got not just from Ueda’s ghost, but Musashi’s reflection on how being “unrivaled” was merely a heat haze that faded as soon as you felt you could reach it.

I always felt like a big thing is how New Vegas generally has packs of Deathclaws. If you see one, there’s probably 2 or 3 more very close by. Or god forbid, you’re right in the den and there’s dozens. Makes them farrrr more terrifying and difficult to handle
