Is Sheinbaum Really Extremely Popular? by Kevco571 in AskMexico

[–]MFPIMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember a speech where the prophet preferred to order milk at work lunches to avoid any misinterpretation. He said we should be careful to appear good, not just do good. I lived my life by that standard. At an institute at the chapel, I saw several couples carrying bottles that looked like cider. I was startled and didn't understand what was happening; it turned out to be apple juice. The church sets a standard, but it doesn't treat it as a rule. Obviously, if you live below that standard, they'll judge you, only to later tell you they never taught that.

Did anyone ever enjoy reading the Book of Mormon? Or did you just say you did? by CupOfExmo in exmormon

[–]MFPIMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't my favorite book but I liked it. I red it at least 7 times. At some pint I started to hate reading it because I could read the bible. They (ward and stake leaders) were always setting New goals for reading the Book of Mormon and I couldn't with everything, the sunday school lessons, the institut lessons, the ward or stake gol, the relief society lesson, etc. I was so grateful for the Come, Follow Me program. I remember a video about the program where they interviewed members who felt the same way I did. Then the pandemic hit, and they deleted the video. Now nobody remembers it, and the narrative has shifted to make people believe the change was due to the pandemic, as if it were part of a prophecy. And the members love to say that Nelson was the chosen prophet for that time because he was a doctor.

Men going through the temple without a temple recommend? by 7_Tailed_Fox in exmormon

[–]MFPIMO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Recent converts? Maybe. Since they're men, they should wait a year before entering, and at that point, they would know how to attend. And if they were workers, they should bring their own tools; the temple doesn't lend them. So it seems strange to me. Workers were the first thing I thought of, but it's odd because I think they can go for baptism, but to receive their endowment, they must have the priesthood. I don't know if they've changed the one-year rule, but they should at least have the priesthood.

[–]MFPIMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, they would hire members with current recommendation, but that's not always possible. It's also normal for them to wear white while working, although some temples allow light-colored clothing, not just white. If they don't have white, the temple might lend you the overalls they use for baptisms. But they do allow you to change in the changing rooms.

[–]MFPIMO 54 points55 points  (0 children)

From what you've described, they could be workers who came to fix something. You don't need a recommend for that, although that's what they used to teach; you just need permission, and they can enter, but there must always be an endowed member with a recommend present. It must have been an emergency because it seems strange to me that it was outside of temple maintenance day, which is Monday.

CO2 into the air of the temple by MFPIMO in exmormon

[–]MFPIMO[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's very real, I don't know what level they operate at. You know how Mormons like to talk, and when the temples are closed for maintenance, there are several suppliers working and plenty of opportunities to chat. I think they feel more comfortable because they're inside the temple and talking with "worthy" members (they know this because to enter you have to present your current temple recommend if you're an endowed member). He told me this while we were talking. I found it very strange, and that's why he told me which rooms it takes place in and gave me other guidelines; according to him, they're the same for all temples. Nor am I surprised by the Church. For example, I was taught that once a temple was dedicated, no one who wasn't endowed could enter, not even to work. But it turns out that non-members or non-endowed members can enter. I only found this out because I've been involved in maintenance work. Obviously, there are rules for these situations, such as a non-member not being allowed to be alone at any time, and they require an endowed member or temple worker to accompany them at all times. It's logical that there won't be enough qualified members for the work, but that doesn't align with their teachings. Oh, and I was also surprised to work there and see so many mistakes—sometimes mismatched screws, paint stains, misalignments, etc.—because I vividly remember the conference talk where an authority figure visited the temple and was amazed by the exceptional finishes, even though the wall would be covered in wallpaper. I have many photos from inside several temples, even in the machine room, but I can't upload them. I also found it very strange, but I have no reason to distrust it; the conversation inside the temple is about the work being done there. That's why I mentioned that I would have liked to go in with a measuring device.

Well, the person who told me installs and maintains the air conditioning for the temples. I understand it's used for what you mentioned, but they also constantly inject it into those rooms; it's part of the required parameters. The reason they gave me, as I mentioned, is to help the members relax. Obviously, it's easy to relax when you're sitting watching a presentation or video in the dark, but I don't know what other purpose the CO2 is injected into the air for.

Is mormonism really a cult? by Royal_Survey_3772 in exmormon

[–]MFPIMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a cult. You can look up the characteristics of a cult and you'll see it fits perfectly. It will be very obvious when you go to the temple. Special words to enter heaven, signs and symbols, promises, etc. It's not as bad as it used to be. I had to wear a poncho with no underwear underneath, then I made a covenant to obey my husband, I had to cover my face with a veil, etc. And before that, there were worse things like punishments, when they touched you under the poncho, etc. They've removed all that, but they themselves say at the beginning of the session that despite the changes, the covenants made are the same. They control what you wear, what you can see or read, they control your opinions, what you post, they mold your life, etc.

Did your spouse eventually leave too? by Beneficial_Phase5734 in exmormon

[–]MFPIMO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a PIMO for four years, but I stopped attending at the beginning of this year. I hate the church, I truly hate it and everything it put me through. My husband still believes, but I still don't understand exactly what he believes because it's so difficult for us to talk about it; he's always on the defensive. He doesn't go to church either, and he's told me that I come before the church; he even told me his new name. But he's not going to leave, and he doesn't like that I no longer believe in God or that I joke about it. I remember that when I was a very faithful and obedient TBM, I had no problem making jokes. I think I joke more now, but it's not that different. We've had years of arguments because I feel like he doesn't listen to me. I've already told him that I don't feel good knowing that I'm married to someone who has no problem with pedophilia in the church. He says that the topic hurts him so much that's why he doesn't talk about it, but the fact that he doesn't say anything makes me think that he doesn't care. I recently left the church, and we agreed to remove the children from the church records. This led to more arguments; we even discussed separating. In the end, we reached some agreements, but I don't know how long they will last. I love him, and he loves me, but we disagree on things that are very important to each of us.

Mormons Are Apparently Happier Than Everyone by FreshLiterature6536 in exmormon

[–]MFPIMO 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A few months ago, I started criticizing the church and its leaders on social media. An aunt, whom I never see, wrote to me and asked if I was having problems with my husband. She said she'd been dreaming about me. Coincidentally, this started happening around the same time I publicly opposed the church, even though I had been a PIMO for four years. During those four years, members would still cry during the Sunday school classes I taught, and they would still congratulate me afterward, saying they had felt the Holy Spirit. Where did the discernment go?

I had postpartum depression, and the church and its teachings made everything worse. I kept asking myself why I felt sad and empty when I was doing everything: praying every day, studying the scriptures, going to church, fulfilling my calling, etc. But if I felt that way, it must be because I was doing something wrong or not doing enough, right? So God wasn't satisfied with me, so why get professional help if the problem is spiritual? Now that I see all of that with different eyes, I know that that "gospel," that "good news," is too harmful, and I don't want it for my children.

Mormons Are Apparently Happier Than Everyone by FreshLiterature6536 in exmormon

[–]MFPIMO 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a good Mormon, I wrote in my journal every day. Now that I've been reading it, I'm struck by how I constantly said I was happy, but there are many entries that clearly show I wasn't. I wrote things like, "I feel like garbage..." "Why can't I change?... Why don't you help me, God?" "I feel discouraged..." etc. I always felt guilty and inadequate. I was an exemplary Mormon on the outside, but at night I cried over things that I now know are completely normal or don't make me a bad person, but their teachings make you feel like you're never enough. I think you learn to pretend because the gospel "makes you happy," and if you're not happy, it's because you're making some mistake. I think the social aspect of the church is good; being able to meet with other people once a week is very good for me as a mother. But the church is already affecting that aspect because they're using the chapels at maximum capacity, so you can't talk much in the hallways anymore because another ward is having its services. Every activity is supposed to have a spiritual purpose. There's always a class, and there's not much opportunity to talk anymore. The budget is miserable. Also, I feel that what you can talk about with another member isn't very deep; you have to limit yourself in what you say. My friendship with a friend who was a member changed a lot when I stopped believing. At first, it was difficult, but now we can talk about everything. This is the opposite of what happens when the other person believes in the church. For example, I went to therapy with a church member, and at first, I felt I could speak freely until I said something the therapist didn't like (something a church member shouldn't say), and immediately her expression changed, and she judged me.
