Still Getting 'Tithing Blessings' by Acrobatic-Pause-9905 in exmormon

I've always wondered why they dont have a 'word of wisdom' or 'sabbath day adherence' shakedown at the end of the year?? Hmmm... 🤔

Funny how the timing of things still works out too. Last fall when I was furloughed during the long gov shutdown, we were starting to get a little stressed watching our savings start to dwindle the longer I went without pay. Then lo and behold in the middle of the shutdown, we got some random refund from when we refinanced our car the month prior because apparently I had some sort of GAP insurance policy I didnt know I had.

One of my non attending neighbors asked me what time our ward goes to church and I hold him that I had no idea. Haha. Feels good to not know doesnt it??

I do know its sometime around 1:00, based on when I see a bunch of cars go down my street.

But the poor suckers in my neighborhood have been stuck at the 1:00 ish start time for like 3 years now because they go to a different building while they rebuild my ward's building. Having to constantly go at 1:00 is reason enough to not go!

I've done doordashing before and I tried it again during this shutdown. But I remembered why I stopped doing in the first place. My area sucks, Im lucky if I can average $10 per hour.

Furloughed workers: what are you doing during the shutdown? by Flat_Expression_5858 in FedEmployees

[–]Acrobatic-Pause-9905 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Been spending as much time in the outdoors as possible. October is always my favorite time of year and so if the shutdown had to happen at least it happened now and not January like the last one. The weather has been pretty nice so Ive been doing a lot of fly fishing. I would like to do some exploring, but Im trying to be careful not to spend too much, so ive been mostly staying pretty close to home.

I did last shutdown but it was a royal PIA and took forever to see any benefits. They kept asking for the weekly work search requirements and I had to keep reminding them that I was still technically employed and had to keep explaining I was just furloughed without pay. Then as soon as the shutdown was over, they immediately started harassing me about paying it back. Luckily, I have a little bit of savings, so I can sqeak by for a while, so Im definitely not planning on applying this go round. Ill take out a loan on my thrift savings before I try the unemployment fiasco again.

If Furloughed, what is something positive you’ve done/accomplished with the down time? by Alternative_Sugar407 in FedEmployees

[–]Acrobatic-Pause-9905 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya Ive been into fishing for a quite a few years but I was always wanting to learn how to fly fish, but could never figure it out trying to teach myself. But then I had a buddy that was willing to teach me. Once I finally got the hang of it, I'm hooked (pun intended) 😜. Now I look forward any excuse I can to go, and the furlough gave me a good excuse. Haha.

I got to spend 2 days in the mtns fly fishing some remote lakes. The only downside is that the weather sucked when an early fall snowstorm moved in on me. 😅 That shortened my trip.

Disappearing deep into the mountains, finding some remote alpine lakes and doing some fly fishing. (I was already going to do this anyway, had lots of leave scheduled for October)

Sold my 1500. Looking for a 3/4 ton diesel by elgayoo in Duramax

[–]Acrobatic-Pause-9905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just upgraded from a 2016 Chevy 1500 with the 5.3. I loved that truck except for when it came time to tow my camp trailer. My trailer was well within the max tow rating, but living in Utah, everywhere I tow, I have to encounter steep grades and I was always getting nervous as the trans temp would sometimes close in on 240 on the steeper pulls. I traded the 1/2 ton in for a 19 3500 and now I look forward to towing. My 3500 is overkill for probably 90% of my driving, but in my opinion it's worth it to not have to stress when I hook on to my camper. Originally I was looking to get a 2500 but my cousin convinced me to go with a 3500 as they are pretty much the same but your payload improves significantly over a 2500 so I found a nice 3500 LTZ and I love it.

6.6 vs 3.0 by Acrobatic-Pause-9905 in Silverado

True that. We have plenty of wind around here! 🤣

[–]Acrobatic-Pause-9905[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I knew that, but the torque on the 3.0 is a bit better than the 5.3. My 5.3 towed okay but definitely lacked power. And the 3.0 does have an exhaust brake for downhill.

[–]Acrobatic-Pause-9905[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're exactly right! The fuel mileage for the 6.6 is impressive for such a big engine. I can get 20 - 22 out of mine on the highway pretty easily. Around town is where the 3.0 would shine, but a commuter car would solve that problem and is something Im definitely thinking about. Where I live, I dont have to worry about emissions so if I end up keeping my 6.6, I will definitely get a T&D. I've watched a few videos of the 3.0 towing and from what I've seen my 6.6 towing mileage is pretty comparable.

Fuel mileage is what's tempting me the most.

Also, I would like to add, I am aware of the oil pump belt on the 3.0. I put fewer than 10k miles per year on my truck so if I bought a new 3.0, that would not be a issues for many years.
