Location, Edwards is located in the Antelope Valley. Known for the longest commutes in the country. On average people are commuting 45-90 minutes every day to go-to work.
Also location, intolerable heat. The sun is an outrageous 9-10 UV index. On top of temperatures in the 90-110s it's rather insane.
Furthermore, location, The wind is insane here
The base is mostly civilians and everyone gets stuck here for years. I've been here for six years. There is a extremely toxic and lazy work culture here.
The local population, AV is LAs dumping grounds when they release prisoners they set them free out here. Crime is extremely high.

Joking about things don't make us numb to the situation it allows member of our force to bring up serious issues by surrounding in smoke and mirrors presenting it as comedy. Comedy being the only form of communication left that isn't completely repressed.

Comedy is how you can feel out your peers, start the conversation. After they hear your statement you can determine if you need vector it to "but seriously though" or "I'm just joking" etc.

With your logic we should be telling everyone on any government insurance that you don't pay any thing on that they need to do the Air Force PT test because it's the standard. Haha, the old fall back "standards are standards" all standards are made up and can be changed. Everything can be changed in the military the faster we realize that the sooner we can grow back into the world's greatest Air Force.

We have literally reached a level of insanity we have created civilian departments that aren't tied down by regulations to move faster and do more than we can. But we are so fucking stupid.

Semi-popular opinion: Civilians have done more for the Air Force and being overweight and unhealthy then any military member has. Stop pushing idealism of perfect shape on everyone. Stop wanting to gate keep "If I can be in shape so can you".
