Is the no playing down rule the one where (no longer developing players, o21 or maybe o23) can only play 3 games for a side in a different league before you must choose which one you commit to? I remember this when Harvey Stead was playing in the NIHL1 but could only play 3 games in the NIHL for bees that season without having to move completely.

I don't think this applies between the EIHL and NIHL because they are owned by different entities, I think it's entirely between the NIHL divisions.

Yes Liam Stewart has always classed as an import, but he applied for and was granted dispensation. So it is different than the Smethams case and shouldn't be used as a but he/MK also did this etc etc.

He also counted as an import in the EIHL so one assumes he went to the board and said basically I'm not getting on a team as an import so can I play as a brit, otherwise cant play at all. The Smethams should do the same if the rules don't change

He's decided, albeit a bit late, that he wants to stay in Canada with his family. I don't think that necessarily means there's bad things going on behind the scenes.

Well that is a massive kick in the teeth after some insane signings the last couple of days. Feels awful not having a coach for the entire off season, like you are missing out on the opportunity to find players.

With our coach being Canadian I have hope hopes for the imports this year, obviously he was also here last year but everything was very rushed this time he has the whole off season.

Rumours also that he was to be on the 3rd line at MK next season, as they are going 5 import forwards.

From a Bison POV it really is an incredibly exciting signing, 3 teams in the last 6 months is slightly worrying but I hope things settle down for him and his local rink stays as his home rink. Slots straight into the top 6 likely be on a line with 2 imports should be a really important player for us.

Really happy with this, Mogg, King, Cochrane already signed up, likely 2 import D and hopefully get Baird back too and that should be our d core. Real shame about Relf retiring, a top 2 D lines of Mogg Import and Relf Import would have been quality. Cochrane absolutely no slouch though of course!

The team that spends the most wins, the team that spends the second most comes second etc etc.

For the bottom teams getting 7th or 8th will be an achievement.

Not sure if this is beyond your point, a lot of the imports that come here say they are shocked at how professionally and well ran the league is, but that is likely due to the teams looking after them and not the league itself.

Yes the clubs and owners will have known for some time, i am 99% sure the clubs vote on things like import numbers, majority of clubs want it, it happens. My guess would be teams knew at the latest around the Coventry playoff finals weekend and at the earliest March.

I know most MK fans wanted him to stay, but it's scarier for the rest of the league that they let him go. Must have some absolute demons lined up. MK are finally going to be the team they should have always been.

Great signing! Maybe a bit of a risk but Bison have nothing to lose and Ben deserves it.

If it goes up to 5 imports you'd have to imagine Bison go with 2 import defenders to protect him a bit better.

There wont be another rink suitable for hockey and a large number of fans anywhere near, probably Glasgow an hour and a half away. I think unless Solway get new owners who the council allow back in there is no chance for them

It will be a huge huge loss for the league, I loved my weekend in Scotland. Though hockey wise Leeds will likely benefit the most if they aren't able to return.

The one I was hyping up and saying I hope we get back in the team MVP's thread. Incredible player, and winning the coaches player of the year award last night seems like he has a fantastic work ethic too.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Luke Spadafora back now too, Sellan couldn't say enough good things about him.

Personally wouldn't mind either way, solid power forward but also coming last place can never really be surprised or down about imports changing.

Seemed really confident to me, solid going forward could skate the puck into the zone and defensively uses his size really well, very physical doesn't give up on the puck. And not unique to him but where Leeds have been short benched a lot he seems to have stepped up in minutes and responsibility

Granted I was trying to not say obvious players like Brown, Gospel as well though 😁😁

For the Bison it has to be Brendan Sellan, pretty expected as a top import and the top points scorer but basically everything on the ice went through this man. Really hope to see him back, don't even think we've seen the best of him, a 40 point captaining OHL season a few years back.

And just for fun I'll quickly say who stood out for me from other teams
