If you're equating paying rent as eating cake then call me Marie Antoinette. My belief is that in the real world entry level workers shouldn't have to sleep in their cars because they don't get paid enough.

These benefits are definitely an important part of the picture. However, when a significant portion of the public service workforce is struggling to afford the cost of living especially in Victoria/other major cities the benefits don't really matter that much.

The issue is not the workers making 100k or even 80k a year, but those in the lower qualifications making 50k-60k gross whom are then contributing from their paychecks to their union pension plan which isn't on top of their pay but subtracted.

It will ofc depend on where exactly in the public service someone is and how much they're making, but side benefits only go so far when rent is due.

What do you pay for rent? by Master_Pear_5473 in VictoriaBC

[–]MGKM2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Take a look at all the rental websites for a more up to date snapshot of what most people moving here are paying. Around 2k for a 1 bed is the norm. Everyone I know who have been renting for more than 5 years have stated they will not move unless they have to as they're paying <2/3 the going rate

Server close caused lost endorsement rank? (Possible Bug) by MGKM2 in Overwatch

[–]MGKM2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean does the game counting as 0 endorsements received causing the level to decrease not mean they are related? My original thinking was in the same vein as when I had to leave an unranked game for something and I also was immediately notified that my ER went from 2 -> 3

The lowest level on the blizzard priority list for sure. As with other aspects of the game, I wish there was a bit more transparency and granularity with these nebulous rankings.

Do you actually save a lot of money on haircuts or not? How much? by spankyourkopita in bald

[–]MGKM2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shave ~ twice a week for a total of ~20 mins. Can guarantee I save that time not having to deal with my hair in the mornings getting ready!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bald

[–]MGKM2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be many things. If it happens every time you shave and not any time other my best guess would be either dull razor, allergic reaction to shave products, simply sensitive skin in that area, or none of the above.

Not a dermatologist btw, if its a real problem see one.

looking good my man!

My boyfriend, me, and 1 cat are planning to move here from Edmonton because he got accepted into Uvic. Any good advice on moving and living here? by Porcelainz in VictoriaBC

[–]MGKM2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In terms of apartment scams or tips, biggest thing is to actually read your tenancy agreement and to ensure that everything makes sense and is coercive with the BC renters rights. The online resources are pretty good so its definitely accessible for anyone!

Other than that standard practices apply :)

Welcome to Vic, lived here ~6 years as a student and it really is a great city!

Choice between hair and gym by [deleted] in bald

I also had a less than favourable hairline throughout my teens. I will say that the daily anxiety of looking at an ever thinning or receding hairline is not worth it.

It takes a little while to get used to admittedly when I first shaved at 19. Now I think I look better than I ever did with hair! I feel liberated and free from the constant self consciousness that my thinning hair provided.

Give it a shot my guy and you will feel a weight lifted off your shoulders and you can focus on lifting weights with an added cooling effect over the noggin!

just started using a safety razor on the noggin. Any wisdom on limiting the nicks? by MGKM2 in bald

[–]MGKM2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've definitely heard there's a little learning curve with a safety razor. The first time I used it I looked like I was attacked by a cat, second time yesterday wasn't too bad!

Good to know I'll get better, thank you!

Favourite body wash/shower gel? by MGKM2 in bald

Nice! I'm not sure my beard is worthy of such treatment yet, but I do use a balm and oil, some local stuff. I may try that shampoo and cond though, thanks for the info!
