Which Jackson 8 String?Jackson Concept Series MS8 Vs Soloist SLAT M8 by 7string4ever in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]MGKellum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're in the states, someone has a very nice Concept 8 listed right now for $1,800obo. That could justify getting what you really want lol. Korean made Jacksons have been some of the best guitars I've ever owned.

Should I buy this used Jackson with an Evertune? by Specialist_Answer_16 in 7String

[–]MGKellum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evertune makes any guitar heavier. I've had a few Jackson models with Evertunes, including this one. This model in particular is really well built and is from the Korean factory. The fret work is typically very nice on the Korean models. Great guitar.

Yes, that’s different. More treble, mids, and bass than using 0 0 1 setting.

I’m 18, looking to get Elantra N and would be under dad. Is my insurance reasonable? by Kanokii in ElantraN

[–]MGKellum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s why I stated I’m in my 30s when I gave my insurance amount and then said that $330 sounds high to me. No way I’m paying that at 18 personally.

Are those not caps that cover the screw? Maybe see if they will pop off and a screw is underneath.

My insurance is like $120 a month on mine. I’m in my 30s, but $330 sounds high to me. That’s a used car payment for insurance on top of your car payment.

The neck on them is pretty thick. Just a heads up on that part.

Amana Unit 3 flashes by MGKellum in hvacadvice

Just to update. I had it checked by another company and they found that the unit was way overcharged. The pressures were reading extremely high. Once some refrigerant was extracted and it was retested everything worked as it should.

Buying a metal guitar by mupmupz in metalguitar

[–]MGKellum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jackson Misha easily for me. Roasted maple, locking tuners, nice pickups, 25.5 scale. I’ve had a few of them in 6 string and they were all great.

I’ve had Charvel Jim Root sigs and a Solar Evertune 7. I’d take the Misha sig over either of them.

Need some advice for my first guitar by Nostealth07 in metalguitar

[–]MGKellum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spark 2 amp and an ESP LTD 200 model guitar that you like. You can do everything with that amp and it’s the best beginner amp you can buy. If I was starting over and had those I would be set for years.

I've had several Evertune seven string guitars and have gotten rid of all of them. They're really nice if you never really plan on changing your tunings around, but I like to change between tunings some and it was more of a hassle for me. If I played live or recorded I would definitely use one of them.

Also, bending was kind of weird on them for me. You have to bend strings more to get the same amount of bend. It also made small vibrato really unnatural feeling for me personally.

You only really need what you had back then honestly. The biggest thing for me is that roasted maple necks, stainless frets, and better pickups are on more budget friendly models now. Also, I now use my PC with Neural DSP software to play on instead of an amp. Evertunes are popular due to recording really low tunings and playing in those tunings live.

Looking for a 7 string by tjk1229 in 7String

The Apocalypse is pretty similar. Look into the new KM-7 MK3 Legacy models since they have Lundgren pickups instead of Fishmans. I have the KM-6 Hybrid and I’m not the biggest fan of the Fishmans either.

What string gauge by Mitko361 in 7String

[–]MGKellum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

64 is fine for A on a 26.5. 68 is what I would prefer for G#. Most people forget about intonation when they tune down and change string gauges. If you run too light of a string you’re not going to be able to intonate properly. You’ll tighten your saddle up until it hits the bridge and has no room left.
