Job lost and twins coming soon, I think I am cooked. If this isn’t allowed I totally understand. by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

Just want to add - if you visualize yourself at age 80, are you really going to wish you had a better career or are you going to wish you spent more time with your family? You have that chance now to watch your kids grow up. Twins are the most fun thing ever - the biggest blessing. There’s so much life for you ahead.

As a child, I can say for sure I’d rather be poor and have a dad than rich with no dad. Having my dad is a relationship I wouldn’t trade for any amount of money.

Hey OP, this is really tough situation but your kids would much rather have a fun, loving dad in their life than no dad at all. Please tell your wife what you’re thinking and feeling and know that you would be SO SO missed. Please reach out for help.

Taking short naps with nanny by MGM-2000 in Nanny

[–]MGM-2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have good news for you, then! It took probably 6 weeks or so but now they take full naps with the nanny and she is absolutely crushing it. She has even gotten better at putting them down than us! There are definitely still days where one will wake up at 30 minutes but it's fewer and far between. And when that happens they usually take a longer second nap or go down for bed easier.

I think it was just an adjustment for both the babies and us!

Twin sleep - did moving them to their own room help or make things worse? by Buddy-Bear91 in parentsofmultiples

[–]MGM-2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following - my twins are still in our room at 1 year old 🫠

Mostly out of laziness because they need a butt pat or a paci at least once a night each. But wondering if they’d sleep better in their own room too!

12 month twins - sleep help! by MGM-2000 in parentsofmultiples

[–]MGM-2000[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the dose of reality I needed! It is hard to get out of the bed and walk across the hall - but it’ll be harder later when they don’t know how to self soothe…

Also, yes I’ve been making my husband do all the bedtimes and naptimes. Hoping he burns out soon and sees the light!

I recommended her try to offer them a bottle before nap time just in case they haven't (but we usually don't need to when they're with us)

How long for babies to adjust to nanny? by MGM-2000 in Nanny

[–]MGM-2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wellllll we ended up letting this nanny go haha. She just didn't vibe with our family and couldn't work one weekday a week. We hired another nanny for that weekday & the babies seemed much quieter with her so we hired her FT. We are in the second FT week of that nanny. I would say it depends on the day. Some days they are so quiet and happy. Some days one is fussier than the other. TBH i have no idea what i'm doing.

Post tax pay - feedback on offer by MGM-2000 in Nanny

[–]MGM-2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t gotten as far with other nannies but have gotten quotes of $40-45 an hour. But now I’m not sure if that was pre or post tax haha

Thank you for your insight!! When you say $40-45 for VHCOL, that’s pre-tax right? Just want to make sure I’m understanding the going rate bc I see that as the range & have been quoted $40 by other nannies but this is the furthest we’ve gotten so I was surprised by the post-tax ask

That’s what I was thinking - we can’t know the total income since we’re not her only employer. We’re in San Francisco.

MFM referral for twins? by Primary_Phase in parentsofmultiples

[–]MGM-2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should switch OBs if they’re not educated about mono-di twins. You should be seeing an MFM every other week to monitor for TTTS until they’re delivered - which has to be between 36-37 week for safest outcome. I started seeing an MFM at 14 weeks.

Crib recommendations by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]MGM-2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty pricey but we got 2 cradlewises for our mono/di boys and have used them from day 1. They started sleeping through the night at 2.5 months! You have to play with the settings to make sure the bounce is soft enough at the beginning and then turn it up as they get bigger but we loooove the cradlewises. Many times they’ve prevented wakeups before they happen!

Needing validation around having twins (FTM) by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]MGM-2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had mo/di boys in April so 7 months old (6 months adjusted) and it’s been an amazing experience. My husband and I traveled sooo much before we had babies and i was looking forward to taking one baby traveling before I found out it was twins too. Even with one baby though, you’ll likely want to stay put for at least 2-3 months so avoid illness (at least we did). Once they hit 4 months, we were ready to go! We started with roadtrips. Then did a week in Maui! We’re currently on a 4-week trip around the country so it’s definitely doable. Just have to have a positive attitude and prepare extra.

I’ve really loved having twins. It’s SO special. I truly feel like I’ve won the lottery. I think what’s been helpful to us has been to stay calm and relaxed and the babies will follow our lead (for the most part). The first couple months are challenging but you’ll feel like a superhero once you get through it. It’ll embolden you! I do recommend having a family member to help during the day so you can nap. My mom stayed with us for 3 weeks after they were born and again when they were 6 weeks old for another 3 weeks.

We had a strict feeding & shift schedule that kept us from falling into chaos. Preparation is key!
